How to unlock the Two's Good, but I Want Three achievement in Titanfall - Definitive Guide

According to Respawn's twitter account these are the difficulties of each of the maps. Since you only have to do 15 of them you can avoid some of the hard ones if you have DLC. If you don't have any DLC then you will have to do all 15 original maps.

Fracture - Medium
Lagoon - Easy
Training Ground - Medium
Overlook - Easy
Air Base - Hard
Angel City - Hard
Boneyard - Hard
Colony - Medium
Corporate - Hard
Nexus - Hard
Outpost 207 - Medium
Relic - Easy
Rise - Hard
Smugglers Cove - Hard
Demeter - Med

DLC maps
Swampland - Hard
War Games - Hard
Runoff - Medium
Digsite - Medium
Export - Medium
Haven - Easy
Sandtrap - Medium
Backwater - Medium
Zone 18 - Easy

Even the hard ones aren't that hard if you have 4 competent players. I recommend using a smartpistol in the first round or 2 so you can quickly take out all the minions and then switch to a Spitfire with Slammer to take on the titans in the later rounds. Remember you can switch load outs at anytime by going to one of the crates marked on your map.

Ah ha, this is very useful, thanks. I was doing them in order and tried Nexus about 5 times before I gave up. Getting to wave 5 was no problem but seemingly endless Nuke Titans coming down the 2 small alleys seems impossible!

Can we in some way use custom game to get this so we do not repeat maps?

After you play the mode 3 times you can choose custom game and choose which map you want to play on.

I saw this posted today and I don't think it's very accurate.

Ya some of the maps are a little harder or easier than it says, but I think it is pretty accurate. Can't really argue with the difficulty that Respawn says it is though. If there is a map that you really think deserves a different difficulty then I can mention it in the solution.

Wait this can be done in private/custom games?

I think it's pretty easy to argue with Respawn on the difficulty.

Titanfall (like any other game) has had a ton of changes to improve game balance. They don't always get it right.

IMO the list is mostly wrong.

I love getting pair with a bunch of Gen 1 gamers, I can carry the team for all the rounds except the last one. It's getting rather annoying.

For whatever reason I can't seem to get past wave 3 on Runoff, where they throw a ridiculous amount of nuke titans at you. It's insane :/

Since today, Frontier defence is no longer limited time availability, but a permanent game mode. A new limited game mode has also been added called Deadly Ground. Now I believe the frontier game mode as off today has dropped in difficulty. Yesterday, I played through about 5 games and the harvester was destroyed every time. Today, I just played 5 games and we won every single one without the harvesters health even getting touched. I'm pretty sure on some of the maps, we were no longer getting overwhelmed with the same number of Nuke Titans, but a much smaller number. Does anyone else find the difficulty has dropped drastically?

Batman Uprises, I agree. I finally won the achievement, had some awful Gen 1 players with us but managed to 2 star all the hardest maps, which before was near impossible, it looks like they have made it a little easier but still very challenging on at least 5-7 maps.

I was playing this game mode everyday, only getting lucky enough to win one every few days, then when the new game mode came out, I won my final last 5 matches in one day, even the most difficult ones, earning me the achievement.

For the few I tried, I generally agree with the list.
I just want to vent a little here... I tried Haven twice and those dumbfucks on my team were almost braindead, I couldn't even finish it both times.

It's incredible when you end up with a gen 10 level 50 and they're the worst in the team. I had one person get only 47 kills in the whole match and no Titan kills. Apparently he let his four-year old play. no, seriously ,that's what he said when I called him out in a message later.

Best loadout for Frontier Defense:

Pilot - Smart Pistol, RE-45, Archer & Arc Grenades
Quick Reload + Warpfall

Titan - Stryder(!) with Triple Treat, Cluster with Autoloader, Big Punch & Smoke.

If you have a 4 Man team with everybody having this loadout, you can't loose.

Two stay at the Harvester defending, and the other two are going to punch and smoke the shit out of the mortar titans and the ones in the back putting on the largest minefield with the triple treat for the Nuke/Arc titans.

And for the Nuke Titans and Suicide Spectres: They can harm other enemies too, make use of that.

Respawn has said that this mode isn't going anywhere (even though it says that its limited in the game mode select screen)

^^^ Tell me about it, I just finished my 15th map, when the scoreboard came up my jaw literally dropped. Some Gen 1 on our team only got 1 kill in the entire game, we were only 60 points off 3 stars, had we have had somebody who knew which way up to hold their controller we'd have mullered 3 stars.

Having done 15 maps, these are a few I'd avoid: Nexus (I think wave 5 is impossible), Outpost 207, Corporate (they took friendly Titans out of it completely!), Boneyard, Smugglers Cove, Rise (only 2 waves, the second is ridiculous), Dig Site, Export and Backwater. Of course these are the ones I personally found hardest, it may not be the same for everyone! Good luck.

Here is the maps that I would recommend for your session that I was able to get stars on:
1.) Nexus
2.) Overlook
3.) Bone yard
4.) Lagoon
5.) Demeter
6.) Smugglers Cove
7.) Rise
8.) Relic
9.) Colony
10.) Training Ground
11.) Runoff
12.) Swampland
13.) Haven
14.) Sand Trap
15.) Zone 18
If you have the Smart pistol with enhanced aim, use it. Equip your Titans with Nuclear Ejection to bunch up Nuke Titans and then eject if they are getting to close to the Harvester and take them down. Recommend that you also use the burn card that increases your nuke explosion! Place your Sentry guns in relatively high areas to take down the specters and grunts. The burn card "Double Agent" is a great one to use too. (Auto Titans, Specters, and grunts ignore you....) Good Luck.....it can and has been done. Turn your attention to Nuke, Arc, and Mortar Titans. If you set your sentries up correctly, they'll handle the "small" stuff.

This is not really a solution but since I could not find a list of the waves I have made a spread sheet showing all waves in Frontier Defense. Hope it is helpful to anybody.

Just a few quick additions to the very useful guide above:

1.
You can check your earnings on each map in your stats. So there is no need to tick a list by hand.

2.
You don´t have to start a game of Frontier Defense and start praying that a certain map will be played. Instead you can start your own match and choose any map you like.
In my opinion the "official" ratings are sometimes a bit strange, as some of the hard maps appear to be much easier than medium or easy ones. Personally I preferred maps I like and did not look at the difficulty.

3.
If you have the opportunity, try to play with atleast one member of your party, because talking some tactics helps alot. Especially having a Titan in reserve can prevent a lot of trouble. Without timing your Titans, it will likely come to a situation that all 4 players loose their Titans in a short time so that there will be no remaining defense.

4.
Focus on mortar Titans. Those mean enemies are spread all over the maps and they will destroy the Tower in no time. Having a fast Titan helps to reach them before they can do too much damage.

Good luck

There are 24 maps available, and this achievement requires that you earn at least 2 stars on any 15 of them in the Frontier Defense game mode. They are all possible to get three stars on, although that does take exceptional teamwork, communication, and skill. Two stars is quite achievable for anyone as three solid players can carry a fourth player who is perhaps not so good.

Frontier Defense is a horde-type game mode where up to four players work together to defend a central point (called a Harvester) from multiple waves of AI-controlled enemies. You have infinite respawns for your Pilot, but the Harvester has only three lives and the game will be lost if it is destroyed a third time.

Stars are awarded based on total points earned, which are awarded primarily on Harvester health at the end of each round, modified by the number of respawns you have left. To get two stars, you definitely need to survive all of the waves and usually need to have at least one Harvester respawn left, although if your Harvester health is 90% or above you may be able to get two stars with no respawns left.

The game mode can be played solo, but it is essentially impossible to win without 3-4 good players. If you don't have a solid team, you can open the game to random players and hope for the best.

Initially you do not have access to create custom games, but after you have played 3-4 random games you can - and should - create custom games so that you can focus only on maps where you don't yet have two stars. Choose Frontier Defense -> Custom Game and choose the map option at the top of the screen (it defaults to Fracture). The number of stars obtained will show in the map image on the right half of the screen. Scroll down until you find a map where you do not yet have two stars, and set the "Open to Public" option to "Yes" (which is the default), then press Launch.

You can invite in friends if you have a good team to work with. It is highly recommended that you use a mic and coordinate with the other players to have the best chance of winning. Especially on waves where there are mortars hanging back in the outskirts as well as forces charging the Harvester, you will absolutely need to split up duties and stay in communication.

The achievement will unlock at the score screen after your fifteenth map has 2 stars or more.
