Inside the Dark Zone, every item you pick up will be put into a small yellow pouch on your back. These items must be "extracted" via helicopter and sent to your stash in any of the safe houses outside of the DZ for you to actually receive them. When you have at least one item, head to any of the designated extraction zones on the map and press to call for extraction.

At this point, a countdown will begin, and other agents in the area may flock to your location. Whether they simply want to extract items of their own or take yours for themselves is the question of the day. There are also AI enemies that will attack as you wait. Kill anyone who threatens you and once the helicopter arrives and lowers its rope, run up and hold to attach your pouch and get credit for your item(s).
