How to unlock the Chatterbox achievement in Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition - Definitive Guide

The conversations that the achievement refers to are the optional conversations you can have with people during the course of the game by approaching someone at your camp and pushing X when the prompt appears.

This achievement can be missed; you'll have to play through the game again if you miss any conversations. This also must be done in one play-through. Thankfully, there are only a few places that have conversations, and all of them take place near unmissable camps with people who are obviously there with you as part of the story. There aren't any hidden people to find.

The TR save icon will appear in the bottom right when you've successfully registered as having completed a full conversation with someone. Look for this to confirm when your game has given you credit for that conversation.

Some people say that the game will not always retain credit for having a conversation if you die before you reach a new checkpoint. If this ever happens, just go talk to the person again after your death.

Here are the conversations, in order:

1. In the Coastal Forest there are 4 conversations with Whitman before you upgrade your weapon for the first time, but people have reported that you don't need to get them to complete the achievement. The TR save icon does not appear when you finish speaking to him, either. All conversations after this are definitely mandatory, though.

2. In the Mountain Village, after Roth gives you the climbing axe, talk to him 4 times.

3. After the rescue plane crashes, Roth and Lara argue about whether she should go look for survivors. Talk to Roth 4 times before you set out.

4. Much later in the game, you meet up with some of your crew on Shipwreck Beach to repair a boat. After a cut scene, they will continue to talk to each other for a while. Wait until all of this is done, and then you can speak to Sam 3 times, Jonah 3 times, and Reyes 3 times. This must be done before you complete the next quest objective.

5. Very soon after #4, also on Shipwreck Beach. When you return with the part for Jonah speak to him 4 Times, Sam 3 times, Whitman 2 times, and Reyes once. Reyes will automatically start talking to you when you approach her, so don't count that as your one time. This all needs to be done before you meet up with Alex.

6. When you return to the camp on Shipwreck Beach after the event on the Endurance with Alex, speak to Jonah 3 times, Reyes 3 Times, and Whitman 3 Times. Doing all of this should immediately trigger the achievement.

If you don't get the achievement right after the final conversations, you have missed something, or something did not register; you'll have to play the game through again. Sorry.

Is there a reasonable amount of time to press the X button for each conversation or should I just hammer X like a madman so I don't miss any of the conversation opportunities?

Seems buggy. Just did the last conversation, and no achievement pop. I was following this guide and the video guide. Damn, can't believe it.

Same with me. I never missed any conversations (and I would never want to, I'm all about story in a game) and nothing registered for me.

Followed the guide and it never popped. Had the same issue when I played on the 360 version as well.

A note, if you forget to talk to Roth before going down into the mountain village like I did, just find a fast travel camp, go back up there, and talk to him... probably before continuing the story!

Yes, Whitman's first encounter isn't necessary. Forgot about his conversations from when I completed the 360 version. So if you missed that one, but haven't come to Roth yet, you're still good.

Thank goodness the first conversation with Whitmann didn't count!!! I read this solution RIGHT after Roth gave me the climbing axe and I was on my way to the Wolf Den, I turned around, ran back to Roth, then followed this guide and it popped after the last dialogue with Reyes....plus one from me!!!!

I got a little worried because I didn't see the TR symbol pop up after talking with Roth in step 3, but I got the achievement once I finished the final conversation. I did not talk to Whitman in the beginning, either. Thanks for the guide!

Glitched for me at first. Jonah only let me talk to him 2x on the final conversation. Quit and reloaded with nothing. Noticed my connection to live was down. Re connected and restarted game. Popped maybe 3 min later.

Whitman was not needed in the beginning. I missed that initial first convo. Still got it.

Just wanted to chime in and share: I was aware of this achievement, but wasn’t really paying attention until AFTER the first Whitman contact outside the temple in like the second level… I decided to keep playing and see what happens. I followed the guide and guides on this page to make sure I got every other conversation, and the achievement (thankfully) popped when and as I was supposed to.

So, if like me, you missed that first convo with Whitman, I suggest playing through and making sure you hit all the other conversations successfully – and cross your fingers.

Good luck.

I restarted on Easy mode to get this achievement. There was one time on moment number 3 where I died right after I did the conversation with Roth and when I respawned they were not done yet (even though I saved at the camp after talking with him) so I did them again. When I finished the last conversation I got nothing. I thought maybe I could get this if I just run straight through without shutting the game off. I started Easy mode again, it took me a little over 3 hours to get nearly to the last conversation by just running straight through and skipping all cutscenes plus avoiding all pickups except ammo. I died only a few times on the way due to carelessness and if I was close to the conversation still, I went back and made sure they were done because of the experience I mentioned before where it reset on before a checkpoint. Before I got to the last conversation, when I was running off the Endurance ship in an action scene, my game just shut off and the Xbox went to home menu. I was pissed but before I booted back up I saw I got a new achievement, it was Chatterbox and I got it 1 hour ago, meaning I got it 2 hours into my straight through playthrough without shutting the game off right after having done it to the end and the achievement never popped for me, it was just in the Recent Achievements menu.

I don't know if this can help in anyway but this happen to me.

I had talked with them all, no achievement popped I was really pissed at this point but just thought I would complete the game, and then afterwards do the collectibles and stuff. The whole play through I tried to get the "Former Adventure" but it wouldn't pop even though I had done it to 50+ enemies. At this point I was very pissed.

I did some towns and collectibles + challenges. Then I went to Coastal Forest (Getting the collectibles and challenge) After the second Ghost Totem (The Ghost Totem where Whitman and Lara open the wall to proceed at the start of the game) and out of nowhere Chatterbox and Former Adventure popped for me. I was online the whole time, I even unlocked other achievements while doing this! These are indeed glitched but somehow can unlock randomly.

For this achievement you need to complete all conversations with the Endurance crew. You can only talk with them at certain parts in the game (by pressing the X button when a speech bubble is above their head) and if you miss one of them you have to either revert to your last save/checkpoint or play through the whole game again.

To get this achievement I used this video. It's extremely helpful!
Credit to Ray from Achievements Hunter for the video.

Are you sure that's accurate? I've heard elsewhere you don't have to talk to him BEFORE collecting the salvage, but you DO have to talk to him after.

I didn't talk to Witman after getting the salvage and got the achievement.

Also, want to point out, I didn't get it my first play through (didn't check the achievements until it was too late). However, its not that bad to do another play through, got it in less then 4 hours not worrying about collecting anything and skipping cut-scenes.

And I actually prefer the Portuguese title of the achievement (Public Relations) to our "Chatterbox"

smile Yep. I'm not in favor of multiple official languages for a country, but knowing more languages is really helpful, especially when traveling. And I'm totally with you on the respect for other people's language solutions on here..! dance

Well, I guess - maybe - TA could add a content language tag, so it would be divided. I prefer to see it all in English, but since I'm Spanish and Brazilian, have no problem with other languages.

Going all offtopic: How can you spot the difference between normal Portuguese and Brazillian Portuguese? (All I know the Brazillians use the X a lot more than the Portuguese do.

TinSigmund666 You may not even care about this anymore, but I think it's kinda like American English and British English
The entonation is different, and a lot of words have different meanings or are used differently
And also Portuguese people tend to speak faster, and along with their accent, sometimes is hard for us brazillians to understand

I'm guessing because it's not in English and people are douchebags. I don't mind seeing other languages on here (languages are a love of mine) and think that they have every right to post in their native language if they choose too. I think it's pretty obvious who they are meant for and there is never a shortage of English language solutions, so I say they can coexist with no harm to anyone. (Short rant: I can't stand my ignorant fellow Americans that don't try to learn another language because they "shouldn't have to". I wish I knew MORE languages than the ones I already do and I'm jealous of foreign friends that speak 3, 4, or 5 different languages with ease. Better understanding of others' cultures leads to a better world, in my opinion. End rant smile)
