How to unlock the Former Adventurer achievement in Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition - Definitive Guide

Earn experience enough to unlock the "dodge counter" skill, but don't upgrade it to "dodge kill" yet.

Now, when a melee thug (those with machetes) attacks, dodge with the "B" button and the direction you want to evade (I do front evade); if done correctly a quick time event shows two circles; when the larger one has shrunk down in the smaller, press "Y" to do the counter attack.

If the enemy falls on his knees and shows a "Y" over his head, it's incapacitated; finish it to earn more experiencie this way. Depending on the level of difficulty and the enemy health/armor it will take a few counters to be incapacitated.

This must be done with 25 enemies, and must be done on a single gameplay; the count doesn't carry to a different save file. So, if you see a melee thug, don't shoot him, try to do the dodge counter and get this achievement early in the game, because once you finish the main story, it will be hard to encounter enemies to get it.

The second shanty town campsite is a good place to get counters, just climb the first level of the tower and jump across to where the windmill sails are rotating and there's normally half a dozen enemies after the campaign is finished.

If you've already upgraded to the dodge kill you can still obtain this. When the bigger circle shrinks within the "Y" icon you'll do the dodge kill...between the smaller circle and the "Y" icon and you'll stab him in the knee allowing you to incapacitate him ("Y" appears above their head) after one or two attempts (the number of attempts depends on if they are wearing armor or not).

Near the end of the game there are several, at least 10, enemies with swords and shields...really good place to earn them if you haven't already.

Did you unlock the "Dodge counter" skill? The enemies with swords or machetes (don't remember what kind of weapons are) try to hit you with the blade and you must evade with the "b" button; and Shanty Town will be the best place to look for them.

The option to hit Y doesn't always appear, dodging toward the enemy tend to be the most effective way to make it appear.

Does this have to be done on 25 different enemies or can I keep doing it to the game one?

You can earn after the mastery skill is equiped, the enemy must have a helmet ( for examble the samurai). So you can´t kill the enemys with one counter.

p.s. sry for grammar

@Smokiedeebear, no you have to incap 25 DIFFERENT enemies. It's a pain, I know. Sure you figured it out by now seeing you asked back in August lol. Just figured I'd answer for those still wondering.

I was able to unlock this after completing the main story. I did the continue option at the main menu rather than start a new game. Just ran around until I found dudes to counter. I did not upgrade to Dodge Kill.

You need to dodge left or right (by presing Left Stick to the right/left and B), than pres Y as fast - as it shows up. (Completed the game and i had Dodge Kill Mastered). Well... only there are few enemy's left so good luck. ;)

Did all the counters on the guys in Shantay after I beat the game and can't seem to get the guys to spawn back or find new enemies. Anyone know any other enemy spawns?

The game continues to spawn enemies after you've complete it; there just aren't as many. Shanty Town and Shipwreck Beach almost always have enemies in them. In Shanty Town there are usualy a few enemies in the first half of the level (the helicopter side of the gate). They are usually in the church area where the tomb is, and on the opposite side around the tall building. In the Shipwreck Beach they spawn next to a camp fire up behind the survivor's camp, up and to the right of the elevator that you have to climb up during the story progression. They also spawn around the tomb area on the way to the Cliffside Bunker.

On easy the samurais were doable in the monastery. You slay a load of them if you don't stand too close to those exploding pots.
Armed guys are tough to beat, guys with machettes or arrow and bow are more willing to do melee attacks. Just be fast enough to press cn_B and cn_Y to take them out.

anyone will try to melee attack you when they reload and you are close to them. archers, riflemen, whoever. try hiding behind an object near to them while they waste a clip, then run out and dodge when they attack.

Just when I thought this achievement was glitched, I got it while falling through a floor. headspin

NOTE: Falling though the floor was just a funny coincidence.

I restarted Tomb Raider because I missed 2 SP cheevos, this one and Deadeye....I just popped this on the way to get to Grim, I can conform, it is ALOT easier to just unlock the "dodge counter" skill, but don't upgrade it to any of the dodge kills.....trust me, I did a lot of counters post game and it wouldn't pop........starting fresh with just the dodge counter made it easier (at least for me, lol)...plus one from me....

I got 100% on single player and also missed this achievement, but am pretty confident I performed this on about 40 enemies. Continued the game, went to Shanty did it three more times and it popped. Don't worry if you've already upgraded and unlocked everything

When you dodge, a slow timer starts... If you wait too long, it becomes dodge kill attack.... If you do the attack right away, it becomes a dodge stun attack. Realized this today while playing. Hope it helps. This is only after you got the upgrade.

To add to TonyCalzoni's comment; when it show a skull icon after the button push it'll kill, a lightning bolt and it'll stun. I find it easier and more consistent to push *after* I would for a quick kill. Pay attention to the icon and play around with the timing

Turns out you can't just farm this on the same guy if you let him stand up again. Guess it has to be different people.

You can still get it with the kill I’m on hard and all I have to do is hold down on the left stick to stab them in the knee.

You should clarify the last paragraph to say this has to be 25 different enemies. I was trying to grind this out on the same couple of enemies for a good while before I checked the comments and realized it had to be different enemies.

Note that this can be done after completing the game by fast travel to Shantytown and seeking out respawning enemies. I didn't get this during my play through so I resorted to this method.

I would also like to note that for those who have completed it to 100% and can't find enemies don't give up hope just yet. I completed the game, and while getting the rest of the collectibles, worked on this achievement. Next thing you know I'm at 100% and there's no enemies spawning. I put the game on the shelf and just came back today (you can just save and then power off and on). I reloaded my save and found 2 groups of 3 guys in Shanty Town. One group near the second campsite and the other where you talk to grim for the first time when you reach that part of the story. I'm not saying this will work for everyone, but it's a suggestion not to give up hope if you know you were close.

Just as an FYI for anyone just starting the game. I'm going back on a second playthrough since I didn't get it the first time, and the after-game enemies aren't spawning for me (I wasn't paying attention and upgraded past Dodge Counter). If you do everything possible up to that point, it appears the earliest opportunity you can unlock Dodge Counter will be around the Mountain Base section. You need to spend seven skill points to unlock the Brawler skill set.

This will also be the same section for your earliest opportunity to get zipline kills - just before you fight your first shielded enemy outside, right before you climb the radio tower. There will be two there. You can also get a third one in the section of the game shortly thereafter where you get the Rope Arrow when you're hanging upside down. The third guy in the scene zips down from behind the first two guys.

i'd bought dodge kill and still managed to do this easily with the two enemies at the top of helicopter hill

- lure them off of their original platform (if you kill them up there they will NOT re-spawn).
- they take two successful dodge counters each to down, i killed them once they were down to be safe.
- head back to the campfire to exit to another campsite and then return.
- rinse and repeat.

takes a while but it beats having to replay the game imo.

This can be done once you have unlocked the "Dodge Counter" skill. When a melee enemy attacks you, press cn_B at the right time to dodge, and a QTE will pop up. Press cn_Y when the two circles meet to incapacitate the enemy. You might need to do it more than once depending on the enemy's armor or health, but you'll know that he's incapacitated when there's a small skull icon above him.

Note that this achievement can be farmed (even after completing the game) with the same spawn point exploit that's used in this "Deadeye" solution for the Xbox 360 version. All credit goes to Wrongway1985 for that one.

Instead of shooting down the enemies from the zipline, as that solution tells you to do, just wait for them to zip down to you. They will take out their machete so that you can incapacitate them. Just make sure you kill them at the bottom of the zipline and not on the top platform, otherwise they won't spawn there again.

Note that even if you have unlocked the "Dodge Kill" skill, you can still incapacitate if you time it correctly. Once the cn_Y icon appears, press the button to incapacitate. If you wait a split second longer until the icon is at its largest, you will kill him instead, which will not count against this achievement.

I would like to note a small nuance regarding receiving this prize. In order for the “result to be counted”, it is necessary to carry out a finishing move after sticking the arrow, i.e. stick an arrow (and if the enemy is armored, then stick a second arrow) and after the skull icon appears above him, press and do the finishing. Only in this case will the result be protected as if it were a wound to the knee. Why am I writing this? The thing is that I probably wounded 125 enemies, but the achievement did not come out, then it dawned on me that after sticking the arrow in, I need to finish it off with a triangle. In general, happy trophy hunting, friends!

To get the trophy, it is important to have the “Dodge Counter” skill of level 1 . If you upgrade your skill to the next level, you won’t be able to get the trophy.

regarding the fact that the trophy does not hit the max. the level of skill leveling is nonsense and nonsense. I personally won this trophy after being fully upgraded.

I finally got it, pumping it up to the second hit with a deflection. Almost at the end of the game, I killed three undead samurai, stuck two arrows in each and finished off the triangle and the trophy fell out. Still some kind of glitchy trophy.

At the very end of the game, when you go to save Sammy, there will be many opportunities to finish off if the trophy did not drop during the passage.

I won this trophy after finishing the campaign with full upgrades. You need to dodge in a circle, and then a triangle. It happens that he kills the first time - this does not count. The arrow needs to hit the leg. usually 2 times. Then you can finish it off with a triangle. It is important that the BOW is selected when attacking. I always run with a bow. If another weapon is selected, nothing will work.
Enemies appear in the village, then in the location overlooking the village,
In the slums near the helipad, on the right on a high column, in the temple, where the tomb is, on the way to the trail. location and near the boilers
on the bank of sadness near the elevator, on a hill near the burning barrel and where the rope is on the path to edurance.
It’s easy to track the moment enemies appear: we run around the map, Lara is crouched down, which means there are enemies nearby. We killed in one place, let's go look in another. In a location, enemies are only in one of the places. That is, if you were killed at a location in one place, go to another location to look, then you will come back and there will be enemies in one of the places.
You can exit the game, save, load. It happens that there are no enemies, I went to the main menu and loaded again. I ran through all the locations after loading. So 3-4 times and the trophy fell out.

The trophy cannot be missed, you can finish it off after passing, we will move to the slum location, shoot at you and run, the enemies are on them and finish off the trophy, provided that you have only purchased an evasion attack.

Almost every enemy armed with a bow, if you run up to him, switches to melee weapons.

Provoke enemies with firearms into hand-to-hand combat, run up and hit, in response he will also try to hit, and then you know what to do
