How to unlock the TR2 Silk Cave achievement in Tomb Raider I-III Remastered Starring Lara Croft - Definitive Guide

For clarity on this one, it should state "do not get hit by a spider, take damage by, or have a spider jump on you, during the entire level". Here is what I found after the achievement just would not unlock, regardless taking zero damage in the spider cave later on in the level. I did some testing on multiple accounts, and have found that.....

Fall damage in the cave is allowed. Health packs are NOT allowed. Pistols are the only weapon to be used and drawn in the spider cave. Changing the weapon in the spider cave voids it. No flairs to be drawn. With this said, here is what you need to look out for. You can use other weapons on all other enemies in other areas. All spiders outside the cave must be killed with Lara’s pistols.

TheSign88 states they saved in the spider caves and reloaded without issue. This didn’t work for me but it’s worth a shot to save a lot of back tracking.

JOZ1E stated they they saved and reloaded throughout the caves, plus I used multiple flares and achievement unlocked after killing the last spider. So Flares may be ok to use.

NobleGeezer commented that "Worked for me, great tips and guide. Didn't heal, change weapons or use a flare through whole spider run and saved step by step on the same separate save, unlocked as I was shooting last spider before it even died."

Small Spider 01). After the long introduction to the level “Temple of Xian” and falling down the water falls, Lara is tasked to open the door atop a ladder. When you have dealt with the two tigers and have flipped the switch atop the roof, you then need to swim back through to the other side. When stood at the bottom of the ladder, ensure that pistols have been selected before proceeding. Make a save. When you hit the top. Draw pistols and shoot ASAP. This will kill the first spider. If successful, make a save.

Small Spider 02). Keeping pistols as the weapon of choice, and immediately after spider one you will drop to a room with a silver secret dragon in clear sight when hanging from the ledge. Work your way down to the lowest platform. As soon as you pull up, ensure you run to the left immediately, quick roll and draw the pistols. Kill the approaching spider before it gets a hit on you.

Small Spider03). This one will come some time later after some progression is made. In the room with the giant dragon statue where you pick up the golden key/mask, there is a dark corridor at the back of the dragon. After picking up the key item, ensure you are facing the dragon and jump to the left platform. Again, making sure pistols are selected and make a save. Enter the room draw pistols and kill the approaching spider.

Small Spider04). In the same location as Spider 03, use the command to walk (not run) forward with pistols drawn. Kill the spider (its worth stating that when hopping back or jumping for that fact, seams to completely screw Lara's aim with the spiders, so be cautious when doing this). Make a save and continue

Small Spider05). After you have got the key to open the gate at the starting area (the one in the water near the first ladder and spider 01), make sure you have pistols selected before you use the key, and make a save. Open the gate and continue as you would in the small room with the cat fish and lever. If you have taken damage from any fish, make sure you heal after pulling the lever before swimming up to the open pool. Mantle up into the spider cave. Draw pistols, Using the walking command to move forward, when Lara aims at this spider, try to stand still and quickly finish it off.

(save at this point if you like, but do not overwrite the save you just made before spider 05. I did not as for some reason, saving and loading did not make this achievement pop, and remember, if your health depletes, or Lara Makes a noise to indicate you have been hit, you will need to reload).

Small Spider06). Immediately after killing this, straight ahead, a spider spawns to the right around the corner. As soon as you get somewhat close, it will come for you. Whilst walking forward, kill it, or stand still, your preference.

Small Spider's 07 & 08). These two spawn when you attempt to get close to the box of flairs (pay attention to what this area looks like, this is where the smaller spiders spawn from, for now, I'm calling them cobwebs). What I did was give the flairs a wide birth when approaching, turn around and run over the flairs back to the starting corridor. (do not get too close to the entrance as I believe this can also void the achievement). When here, quick roll, stand still and take them out when they approach. Ignore all pick ups for now and come back for them after all kills have been confirmed.

Small Spider's 09 & 10). These two spawn in the cobwebs directly opposite spiders 07 & 08. I found walking up to the cobweb, preforming a quick roll and then running back to/just after the starting corridor (where spider 06 spawned) was best. A quick roll here, to aim and finish them off.

Large Spider 11). Moving back to where spiders 09 & 10 spawned, draw pistols and slowly walk (not run) forward (not too far, and not to close to the cobweb on the left of the walls, the one that is similar to where the others spawned). You will see this large spider spawn in front of you. Slowly walk backwards whilst shooting (its on a rail and will only cover a certain area). Kill it.

Small Spider 12). This one will spawn to the left of where you should be stood still shooting the Large Spider. Again, I found that moving close and running away to give a decent distance works best. Spawn it, run to the center of the room you are in, quick roll, and finish it off. That's the last of the small spiders.

Large Spider 13). When moving back to where you killed the first large spider, to continue into another room, one will spawn right on top of Lara's head and hit you if you are not careful. I found the best practice was to (whilst running), drop down move to the left counter clockwise around the room whilst jumping, and go back up the way I came in, (spider 13 always seamed to be in the distance to the left of its area (same as number 11), and didn't give me any trouble), to the center of the previous area (now clear of threat). Moving slowly forward, I was able to kill this the same way as number 11 then went forward to the ledge of the next room. However, it was always 50/50 of not being hit on the head by trying to make it spawn, quick roll and retreat back the way I came into the area. Find a way that suits you best.

Large Spider 14). This one is the first that spawns in the room. It spawns to the right and drops down from the ceiling. Indicated by the sudden camera angle change. If the way is clear, its best to get back up and pick it off from the previous ledge.

Large Spider 15). This one always spawns from the ceiling and if you are not careful again, will hit Lara on the head, resulting in reloading the previous save. Its spawn location is to the back mid-left of the center column. Carefully spawn it and kill it how you see fit. Either retreat back the way you came in, or try and climb the ledge at the back of the cave to progress the level and pick off from there.

Final Large Spider 16). This one spawns after you hit the fifth ledge. Easily avoidable by lining ledge four and five up, and then doing a standing jump forward. As soon as you have touched ledge five, do a backwards jump to ledge four. Draw pistols and kill the spider. Achievement will unlock upon killing this spider. If it has not unlocked this is because you have taken damage from any one of these 16 spiders within the level.

It is worth noting that this is simply a way around this for now, until a patch is released or something. But with this, method (by killing all spiders and not being hit by any of them what so ever), I was able to unlock the achievement.

Hope this helps anyone who is confused as to why it is not unlocking!

Great guide! I saved and reloaded throughout the caves, plus I used multiple flares and achievement unlocked after killing the last spider.

Disclaimer: you may or may not have to nodmg spiders throughout the entire level to get the cheevo to unlock.

Late into TEMPLE OF XIAN, with the Silver key at the end.

You have to KILL every spider in these caves, not just get to the silver key.
Bretty easy, since you can use the inital entry point at the water and the cave with the giant egg on the roof as chokepoints and force them to retreat by jumping into the water/down into the cave/onto a pillar.

Pops upon killing the last spider.

This achievement didn't unlock for me after several attempts. No level skip or weapon cheats were used in my playthrough.

I also made sure I killed ALL spiders in the cavern, cross-checking with Stella's guide, and I only used pistols and flares. I also did it in one go (no saves inbetween).

I initially thought you needed to not use a medikit too (I used one post-save to make it easier to spot if one bit me) but I also did it without healing.

I have a couple theories as why it didn't count for me, but I won't be able to test further until my next playthrough.

1 - Perhaps you need to approach the cavern at full health? I saved the moment I pulled up from the water but perhaps you need to be at full health before then.

2 - Perhaps you need to save before you pull up from the water?

Wait, so I didn't misremember. I was wondering why the Spiders in the Wall of China felt so tanky compared to my memories.

Yeah I did that, it still didn't unlock for me. Perhaps it's because I saved at the entrance, who knows.

It also does not work for me, my idea is that at the begining of the level there are other spiders which bit me, maybe i have to retry with killing those other spiders w/o damage.

I have tried several times and it didn't unlock. I did notice that the random spiders that appear in the level (one after climbing the ladder at the start and the two in the dark room behind the dragon head) did in fact get a hit on me, so I'm curious if this can void it perhaps.....?

I saved multiple times, used flares and my strat was just getting through the thing without dmg. Wasn't aware I had to genocide the spiders hence my conclusion that it's just all kills since I popped after killing the last (small) spider.
No clue if I went in with full health, but I doubt it.

Not sure what broke it for me then. I'll try again on my next playthrough eventually, keeping this achievement in mind.

Not that it helps, but the Monk-cheevo didn't unlock for me despite doublechecking that none of them died.

I also had issues getting the TR3 "pick up the medikits before the monkey" achievement to unlock despite loading and definitely getting it done. As it was close to the beginning of the game I decided to just start a new game and that fixed it.

As I've also seen other people struggle to get unlocks to work I think the misc achievements in this are just a little buggy and we need to wait for a patch that improves detection.

I have some problems with this one too. It seems that to unlock some cheevo, you have to do everything in one go without reloading at the middle of the execution of it.

I've tought of that too. I just hope it's not all spiders of the game but just these of that level !

If so that's especially mean considering the achievement description lol.

Killing spiders is currently bugged where her accuracy is extremely poor while moving (ie, best to stand still while shooting them), so it might be better to wait until after the first patch.

Ok playing the level in old graphics seems to correct the aiming AND the achievement. Mine has poped after that.

@WhiterValkyrie
Well that confirms it then. 100% not to be hit by any spiders it is then. Which is harsh. So will try that now and then see how it goes.

Correct. It's not that they're taking more hits, it's that she keeps missing them lol

@SlightlyErotic
Arf sorry for the false hope. I've also been very careful to not be hit by the other spiders of the level and i've killed them all.
