How to unlock the TR2 The End Doesn't Justify the Means achievement in Tomb Raider I-III Remastered Starring Lara Croft - Definitive Guide
Psst, hey kid. Wanna buy a wheel of cheese?
There's a glitch that let's you skip a HUGE portion of the level which makes both this cheevo a breeze and significantly helps with the speedrun.

Using the seraph didn't work for me but the strongroom key did :)

I managed to do this on my pistol only playthrough, but there are a few steps that are a must or this wont work.
1 - always help the monks fight, but take an extra second to make sure Lara is aiming at the thugs, not the monks.
2 - the area where you run up the stairs, shoot the window out and drop down, avoid this. instead, at the stairs, heading up towards that window, when the bad guys appear, turn around, run past them and down the stairs, head left and down more stairs to the door that you would open if you had gone out of the window. theres a bug where the bad guys wont follow you as far as that door. run forwards (when your back is to the door) until one comes down to get you because youve left the buggy 'no - go' area, shoot him whilst moving backwards and they run away as you get near the door again while you shoot them in the back. rinse, repeat, all 4 thugs dead without the monks outside this area joining in and risking death. continue to shoot out that window and open the door to free the monks
3 - this step is very important, i had to reload this several times until i figured this out. When i went up to the hut through the cavern and over the bridge, whenever i came back there was always a dead monk in the courtyard. heres how to prevent that! : So, from the main hall where you go through a gap in the floor, (statue is to laras right) then out to a courtyard, you can pull the switch to open the doors on the left and 2 bad guys appear inside. DO NOT OPEN THE DOORS YET. instead, continue to the cavern on the right, cross the bridge, get to the small hut where there is a single monk. you may need to help him with the bad guy after the pickup in the hut. When you return to the courtyard, there will be a total of 4 bad guys, 2 as you get back to the courtyard, then 2 as you open those doors you left alone earlier. help the monks win the fight, just incase, but at this point theres about 20 of them in the main hall fighting these guys so you should be ok. no casualties as you are away at that hut :) save before you leave, just to be safe. but this worked for me.

After multiple tries for step 3 I literally had to do the exact opposite for it to work. After opening the trap door and going through it, I ran over and immediately opened the door and killed the thugs in the room. Then once the monk on the outside walked inside, I shut the door so he couldn’t come back out. That allowed me to continue the path, pick up the prayer wheel and come back to fight the goons without getting the monk killed.

Done in TR2 - Barkhang Monastery.
This achievement is a tough one. This isn't just "don't kill any monks"; this is "no monks must die at all in the stage". That includes the gun-men not allowed to kill the monks.
As I was making my "pistol only" run my first playthrough this was borderline impossible for me, and so I had three monks die by enemy gunfire throughout the stage - one of which happened completely outside of my control, where a group of enemies spawned in the main hall after I picked up a key far away, so a fight happened without me being present, and a monk died.
I strongly recommend when going for this achievement, not to do it on your Pistol Only or New Game + run. You'll want to kill enemies as quickly as possible to keep monks away from battle.
I also strongly recommend changing your save slots throughout the stage so that if a monk dies somewhere in the distance without you knowing, you at least won't have to replay the whole stage again.
Of course it goes without saying, do not shoot any of the monks as they'll become hostile towards you and also not fight the gunmen.
Best of luck with this.
