How to unlock the TR3 Get to the Choppa! achievement in Tomb Raider I-III Remastered Starring Lara Croft - Definitive Guide

Done in TR3 - Meteorite Cavern.

Unfortunately on console there's not an easy way to pull this off.

Some back story, originally you were able to do this {on PC, no idea about Playstation} by quick saving just as the boss fires and loading when he hits you, as the save does not store his 'orb' traversal, and so you could just save/load repeatedly as you traverse up the cavern. However in this remaster, Aspyr thought it was a good idea to make Lara let go whenever you open your inventory, which makes travelling across the monkey bars using this method impossible.

THIS MAY WORK BY PLUGGING IN A KEYBOARD. Unfortunately when I last tried to use Keyboard controls in the game on my Xbox, the moment I performed a jump + grab, or a back flip, the game acted like I had ALT 'toggled on', causing a number of screwups for me. It may just be my keyboard though (Razor Turret), so if this doesn't happen to you though, then this is by far the easiest method to earn this achievement. Quick Save is F5 and Quick Load is F9. Make sure to use tank controls.

Despite the above, this achievement is still doable on Xbox, just a bit more tricky. You will DEFINITELY not want to do this with pistols only, so if you're doing a pistol only run, save in different slots and restart the level when you've earnt the achievement. I was going to make a video for this but could not reliably do everything in one go. Perhaps I'll edit something together later on and upload that.

Start off with a Desert Eagle and blasting him until he collapses. Try to get him down without you moving from the starting point as the ladder to climb up is behind you.

Once he's down, quickly do a running jump to the ladder and climb up onto the ledge. The timing for this is extremely tight, so this may take you a couple of goes, especially since it's quite easy to grab the ladder 'too low'. If you manage to get on the ledge though and run to the wall, make sure to save.

Continue through the stage until you get to the section with the monkey bars, BUT DO NOT GO OUT THERE YET. Save again just before and get your MP5 out - you're going to need the long distance aim of this weapon. Run out into near the corner but not the edge of the platform, and shoot him down. If you're lucky, you'll be able to do this without him shooting you once.

Once he's down, immediately monkey bar across. By the time his health is full, you should be above the next ledge and can safely drop down - this is the hard part of the achievement over, so make sure to save!

You should now be able to continue up the Cavern without the spider's orbs being a problem. But save frequently just in case. The moment you get to the top, you're done.

~~~
The achievement will unlock the moment you finished sliding down all the ramps in the next section, and start seeing the Flamethrower Guards near the buildings.
In case it's helpful, I found this somewhat easier for the ladder climb section:
Once you've stunned the boss and jumped onto the ladder, keep climbing past the ledge and backflip from about the middle of the block with the carved face to land on the arm of one of the statues. The boss will probably be shooting his energy blasts at you by now, but they are blocked by the arm - effectively making it a safe zone (and a good place to save). You can hear the boss shooting the energy blasts and see greenish smoke form around your feet when the blast hits the arm, but you won't take any damage. From there, just take a running jump onto the ledge and run into the snowy hallway. I started the run/jump process when I heard a blast being fired and was easily able to make it into the hallway before the next blast would have hit me, though I doubt the timing needs to be that precise.
For timing reference, I managed to climb the ladder and flip onto the arm without being hit by an energy blast even though I grabbed the ladder about as low as it's possible to do so without actually landing in the lava. If you stun the boss when he's on the opposite side of the pit in the middle from you, you'll have a few extra seconds to pull this off before he starts firing off those energy blasts.
I found out from this video, but if you switch to modern controls you can actually save while in the middle of a grab like the ladder (as opposed to letting go once you back out of the menu with tank controls). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LWli2eBNYf0
So technically you can keep doing the saving/reload trick to avoid the boss instant kill move and don't have to worry so much about the timing for the beginning/monkey bar sections. :)
I tried three different keyboards and cables on the Xbox series X, it's definitely a problem with the game, that it keeps holding alt if you press the jump and another button at the same time. Where could I bug report this?
You could try contacting Aspyr... But they're also a dev that initially opened the game up for preorders as a PlayAnywhere title, only to strip it from the game a couple weeks before launch.
