How to unlock the Feather Duster achievement in Tomb Raider - Definitive Guide

A very easy spot to do this is around the very first "Fast Travel Camp" you come across.

When you walk down the path you'll encounter three to four birds. Activate your Instincts, so that the animals get highlightet. Then just shoot and loot them. If you kill one of the birds, the others will fly away... No problem! Just walk a few steps away, turn around and the birds are back just as nothing happended.

If your run out of birds, fast travel to any other camp. Then travel back to the first camp and the Birds should be back with you...

Good catch.

I had to walk all the way back to the campfire to reliably reset the birds, but otherwise a great solution.

Another good place is on shipwrecked beach, tons of seagulls that hover in the air!

I did this at the broken bridge - right after you left the (broken) Radio Control Center passing the hot pipes and right before you have to climb up the Radio Antenna. (or: afte the enemy Camp where you get your Machine Gun). On the bridge there are sitting some Crows. Shoot them with your bow or pistol - if they don't drop down hit them again, till they do so. Then wait and the Birds will respawn after some seconds (once i had to wait for 2 minutes). Repeat till achivement pops!

Important: You also have to loot them, so don't shoot them from the right side, because that way they will fall of the cliff and you can not loot them!

And if this english text reads like written from a tiny kid: I'm Austrian, so remeber Schwarzenegger and you know how bad our English really can be ;-)

I made this achievement infinitely harder to achieve. The achievement states "Kill and loot flying animals" however the birds DO NOT have to be flying to get this achievement. You just need to kill and loot 10 birds.

You will start finding animals that count towards this achievement very early on. They spawn frequently and you can revisit areas later that have them. The below list are the types of animals that count towards this achievement. Just remember that after you kill them, you must go loot them or it will not count. This can be tough sometimes with birds since they can be in spots you cannot reach. You can kill them while they are on the ground or flying, and with any weapon. To save ammo, you can kill them with Rope Pull when you learn it. 

  • Crows
  • Seagulls

Again, you can find many crows in the same area where you found your bow. You can also wait until you reached Shipwreck Beach for the seagulls. Simply killing them won't be enough, so don't forget to loot them.
