How to unlock the The Professional achievement in Tomb Raider - Definitive Guide
If you're looking for a good way to farm easy XP/salvage and have some patience - there's a small area in Shanty town with unlimited chickens and boars that constantly respawn without you having to leave the area.
You don't get much XP from them but as they are so numerous it's easy to rack up the XP for the last few upgrades you need (I needed 4 for my shotgun, got more than enough XP from this area in about 20 minutes)
Just kill everything and keep running around the shack in the middle and across the river bridge, you'll never run out of things to kill!
There's also an ammo crate at the top of the steps (just to the right of Lara in the above screenshot) that will respawn often too, in case you run out of ammo.
UPDATE from Mainstream:
Fastest and most effective way to acquire XP after completing the story:
Visit the Coastal Forest region of the map after you've completed the story.
There will be an indefinite amount of deer wandering around in the area and they will re-spawn each time you kill one. Each deer that you kill and loot will earn you 75 experience and 12-15 salvage. The amount will not change no matter how many you kill and loot, so feel free to use it as much as you need in order to purchase the skills and unlock the achievement.
If you farm here before completing the story, there will be a hunting limit enabled, meaning you will not be able to receive as much experience. This is pretty much only for those that have completed the story and are lacking enough experience to purchase all the skills for the achievement.

After completing the Story I'm still missing two mod upgrades for the rifle. Is it possible to get these once the story is done, and where?

There are only 4 weapons in the game that you can upgrade. The Bow, Shotgun, Rifle, and Handgun. There are several upgrades for each weapon and you have to gain a lot of salvage in order to upgrade everything. You can only start fully upgrading weapons as you find "parts" for them. The parts seem random and as you loot things and fallen enemies you will randomly pick them up.
You can upgrade your weapons with salvage. There are 41 upgrades to complete but they won’t be available from the start. You will need to find certain amounts of weapon parts (usually 3 parts) to unlock next tier of upgrades. Also some weapon upgrades are story related, so you won’t be able to reach to next tier until you progress further into the story.
You can find parts from crates or by looting dead enemies, usually rare ones like shield or spear users, you might also get them as rewards for clearing optional tombs. The parts appear randomly. Types of weapon parts also appear randomly. Some people who use only one weapon can't get any other parts except the one they are using, others might find parts for other weapons as well. So it's a good idea to switch weapons from time to time to be able to find them for all your weapons, if you can't find any weapon parts except for the one you're using the most.

By the end of the game, all improvements are simply purchased, the only condition is to complete the game 100%. If it’s not enough, you can go around the locations and hunt in order to collect the missing amount of parts.

Deer and hares will respawn in the COASTAL FOREST location. There you can find the missing parts.
