How to unlock the The Professional achievement in Tomb Raider - Definitive Guide

If you're looking for a good way to farm easy XP/salvage and have some patience - there's a small area in Shanty town with unlimited chickens and boars that constantly respawn without you having to leave the area.

External image

You don't get much XP from them but as they are so numerous it's easy to rack up the XP for the last few upgrades you need (I needed 4 for my shotgun, got more than enough XP from this area in about 20 minutes)

Just kill everything and keep running around the shack in the middle and across the river bridge, you'll never run out of things to kill!

External image

There's also an ammo crate at the top of the steps (just to the right of Lara in the above screenshot) that will respawn often too, in case you run out of ammo.

UPDATE from Mainstream:

Fastest and most effective way to acquire XP after completing the story:

Visit the Coastal Forest region of the map after you've completed the story.

There will be an indefinite amount of deer wandering around in the area and they will re-spawn each time you kill one. Each deer that you kill and loot will earn you 75 experience and 12-15 salvage. The amount will not change no matter how many you kill and loot, so feel free to use it as much as you need in order to purchase the skills and unlock the achievement.

If you farm here before completing the story, there will be a hunting limit enabled, meaning you will not be able to receive as much experience. This is pretty much only for those that have completed the story and are lacking enough experience to purchase all the skills for the achievement.

After completing the Story I'm still missing two mod upgrades for the rifle. Is it possible to get these once the story is done, and where?

Yes it's definitely possible, the boxes of salvage constantly respawn in all maps. Also if you've already got the skill that gives you salvage when looting animals, this solution will get you there faster.

the coastal forest area, near the first camp you unlock, was still spawning unlimited deer & rabbits for me even after the patch. it only took me about 15 min to get the rest of the salvage I needed

This still works, just got my last 600 salvage from the location in the guide. Was playing with the latest update installed.

I'm stuck on 70% on the bow, everything else in the game at 100%, plenty of salvage, just can't find the one bow part :(

I'm with you man, still stuck at 70% on the bow. I'm thinking there was some sort of glitch when you received the crossbow from Jonah because I thought I remembered seeing all of the bow skills unlockable until I spent salvage on one, then I got stuck at 70%

Shanty town is definitely better for salvage, much quicker respawn and a smaller area

Thanks for the tip about the deer. I need literally 3000 salvage (how I was so short I've no idea - I got all the lootable weapon parts like halfway through the story and I looted everything I could :( )

I'am also stuck on 70% whit the bow and everything else is 100% and I finished the game. I think that the problem is that I didnt get the explosive bow part at Chasm Monastery and I can't go back. So maybe you can at this to the solution that you must leave the Chasm Monastery whit the explosive bow part or someone must know how to go back.

For anyone that cant find the last bow part, I found mine by the beach. I climbed up the elevator shaft near the survivor camp part of the beach to get a GPS cache. There is a metal container container needing to be pried open with a crowbar at the top, which contained my last bow part. Hope this helps all those who are stuck at 70% bow completion!

Terrific guide, but you consider adding this to it. I posted this solution for the "Lethal" achievement, but figured you it should be added to yours instead of making another solution.

Great, thanks! 12-15 salvage is better than the 7-11 you get from the chickens :) Added.

That's weird Thome, I recorded that video after finishing the story. Have you tried the Coastal Forest region to check for deer?

If you have the preorder DLC tomb, you should definitely revisit it after you have completed the game (or late during the story). In the most distant area of the tomb is a door that can only be destroyed with grenades. Inside you can find maybe 15 small crates, many of those must be "freed" with fire arrows, your shotgun etc. There are also two big metal crates. I haven't checked it but the smaller ones should respawn.

There are only 4 weapons in the game that you can upgrade. The Bow, Shotgun, Rifle, and Handgun. There are several upgrades for each weapon and you have to gain a lot of salvage in order to upgrade everything. You can only start fully upgrading weapons as you find "parts" for them. The parts seem random and as you loot things and fallen enemies you will randomly pick them up.

You can upgrade your weapons with salvage. There are 41 upgrades to complete but they won’t be available from the start. You will need to find certain amounts of weapon parts (usually 3 parts) to unlock next tier of upgrades. Also some weapon upgrades are story related, so you won’t be able to reach to next tier until you progress further into the story.

You can find parts from crates or by looting dead enemies, usually rare ones like shield or spear users, you might also get them as rewards for clearing optional tombs. The parts appear randomly. Types of weapon parts also appear randomly. Some people who use only one weapon can't get any other parts except the one they are using, others might find parts for other weapons as well. So it's a good idea to switch weapons from time to time to be able to find them for all your weapons, if you can't find any weapon parts except for the one you're using the most.

Here's a list of weapon upgrades and needed salvage, in order of availability:

By the end of the game, all improvements are simply purchased, the only condition is to complete the game 100%. If it’s not enough, you can go around the locations and hunt in order to collect the missing amount of parts.
