This might come naturally as you are playing through the game, but if not, just allow yourself to be killed as you are moving through the stage.
If you have not unlocked this by the time you enter the Night Bar and view the ‘Sons of Subversion’ mural, you will trigger a checkpoint when you enter the main bar area so you can just keep dying and respawning there until this unlocks.
