How to unlock the Rookie of the Year achievement in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 - Definitive Guide
Note: This guide was written assuming the player is using default controls and default moveset.
This achievement is awarded for completing all 12 of the "Rookie" challenges.
Progress can be tracked from the main menu or pause screen by pressing x3 and clicking on "Rookie." Progress can also be tracked on the pause menu by pressing x2 and clicking on "Rookie."
Here are the challenges and how to complete them:
1) Portfolio: Change your badge in the Profile menu.
- To access the Profile menu, click x4 on the main menu. Now select a badge. You can also access the Profile menu from the pause menu by pressing x3.
2) Speedrun? What?: Complete every goal in any skate park to unlock Speed Run Mode
- The easiest level to do this is probably Warehouse in THPS1. Here's a video of all of the challenges:
- You need to have obtained at least one stat point to do this. If you're following this guide in order, you should already have one. From main menu, press , then x2. Adjust stats by using or . You can also edit stats from the pause menu by pressing , then .
4) Customized: Customize a skater's special trick selection in the Trick Editor tab of the Edit Skater menu.
- From main menu, press , then . Press over an unlocked slot, then set a new special trick. This menu can also be acdessed from the pause screen by simply pressing , but can only be edited after a run or in free-skate.
5) Golden: Earn a Gold medal in any competition park. Game mods must be disabled.
- The first park you can do this at is "Skate Park" in THPS1 or "Marseille" in THPS2. All you have to do to earn a gold medal is win first place. To do so, land high-scoring combos and avoid bailing. Each competition has three heats.
6) Combo-riffic: Complete these combo challenges:
- High 5: Land a combo with more than 5 tricks.
- Reversion: Land 5 reverts (Use as you land from a vert ramp to revert)
- Lip to Revert: Land a combo with a Lip Trick (), Revert () and a Manual (+).
- Revert to Manual: Land a trick with a Grab trick (any directional + ), a Revert () and a Manual (+).
- Vert Break: Land a combo with only a Grab trick (any directional + ) and a Grind ().
- Street Transfer: Land a combo with a Manual (+), Flip Trick (any directional + and Grind ().
- Wall Bounce: Land a combo with a Grind (), Wallplant ( as you're airborne approaching a wall) and another Grind ().
- Specialty: Land five special tricks.
7) Creator: Create a new skater using the Create-A-Skater system.
- From the main menu, press and create a new skater using one of the four empty Create-A-Skater slots. This will also unlock
8) Facelift: Edit a created skater's appearance in the Edit Skater Menu.
- This can be done from the Crate-A-Skater page, but if you want to change it at any time, follow these steps: Choose your character from the main menu by pressing . Now press and click on "Head" under the "appearance" option.
9) Logo-go-go: Purchase a logo in the Skate Shop.
- To access the skate shop, from the main menu press x2. Now click on "Logos" and purchase a logo. You need $50 to purchase a logo.
10) Accessorize: Edit a created character's clothing in the Edit Skater menu.
- This can also be done while creating a skater, but if you want to change your clothes at any point, follow these steps: From the main menu press to choose your skater, then press and change your Gear.
11) Hit The Deck: Purchase a deck in the Skate Shop.
- To access the skate shop, from the main menu press x2. Now click on "Boards" and purchase a logo. You need $100 to purchase a deck.
12) Rookie Badge: Complete every challenge in the Rookie Collection.
- Finish the previous 11 and this challenge will be completed as the achievement pops. Congrats! Now visit the "Challenges" tab and claim your rewards!
