How to unlock the Big names club achievement in Top Spin 3 - Definitive Guide

EDIT: For those people that don't want to try and get this the hard way, there is an easier way to get this. You can play through this part of the career on Very Easy. Once you have beaten 7/8 people, change your difficulty to Hard and beat the final opponent, and the achievement will pop.

Thanks to Soy Super Bien for the tip and SUpREEM 08 for confirming that it works.

========================================================

Okay, to start off with, this achievement really isn't as difficult as it may sound. You just need to play smart, and have the right stats on your character.

The stats you want to get your character are:

Forehand - 100
Backhand - 100
Service - 30
Return - 30
Volley - 70
Power - 100
Speed - 100
Stamina - 30

Now trust me, I'm really not great at this game. But using a character with this build makes you pretty much unstoppable. You can get to even the trickiest of balls, return with power and accuracy, volley well and just annihilate your opponents.
You really don't need any tips on how to win with a character like this, but I will provide a few simple tips.

When playing, I only used the A button. I hold A for power, and just keep alternating the corner I aim for. This tires your opponent out, and eventually you will get a shot that's just too much for your opponent to return. Feel free to throw in the odd lob shot. Also use RT if you want to add that extra bit of power to your shots. Please note that this CAN make your shot go out, which is why I tended to avoid using it.

You also need to be pretty good at serving. I personally taught myself how to serve, but make use of the Tennis School if you are struggling. Hold A until the ball is at its peak, that push the left analog stick in the opposite direction to the side you are serving from. (eg, serving from right, push to the left, and vice versa)
Whilst pushing the direction, tap RT for power. This serve should be a powerful shot to the edge of your opponents box. The opponent will return usually, but be off balance. When the opponent returns the serve, hold A and smash it into the opposite corner of the court. This will nearly always get you the point.

Next, make use of LB. This is the sprint button. If your opponent hits a powerful shot to the opposite side of the court, hold LB and sprint to the ball, then return it. It doesn't matter if the shot has much power, just aslong as you return it. Make sure not to hold LB for too long, though. If you hold it for too long, your character will sprint too far and be unable to return the ball.

Next, rush the net when possible. It's a great little tactic, and works well. Only use it when you are sure you won't be lobbed. Hit a long ball to buy some time, rush the net and line yourself up for a smash. When your opponent returns the ball, aim in the opposite direction, hold RT and A, then release as the ball reaches you for extra power.

Last of all, centre yourself. If you are unsure which direction your opponent is going to hit the ball, centre yourself. Stand in the middle of the court, so you aren't given a shot which you can't reach. Be ready to use the LB button to sprint.

Using these simple tips, along with this character build, should guarantee you all of the Hard difficulty achievements.
They really aren't hard. I went straight from playing on Very Easy to playing on Hard, and using tactics I'd picked up whilst playing through earlie parts of the game, along with this character made it so easy.

If you are struggling with a certain shot, just go to the Tennis School and practice, you will need to complete all the lessons at some point anyway.

I wish you all the best of luck. Don't try and do a fancy shot when you are unsure if it'll go in, because you WILL be punished.

Keep practicing, and I help my little guide helped you all.

Also, please DO NOT give this guide negative feedback. If there are any things in this guide you don't like, or you feel I am missing some points, please send me a message and tell me, and I will happily change it.

Thank you all. Best of luck, and take care.

The easiest way is to just play ALL of the career on Very Easy, then change to hard on the very last game of the legend tour.

What do you mean? You can play and beat all Legends on Very Easy, and beat the last one on Hard and the achievement will pop?

If so, I will add that in and give you credit. Thanks!

Thanks so much for this. FYI, I left Monica Seles until last. Assuming your player is right-handed, you can play forehand shots to Seles' backhand (she is left-handed) to put her under pressure. I was able to beat her on my first try without having to play risk shots.

Yes i confirm it also.
The first 7 very easy, then make hard on the last one.
I think Henin ist best for last opponent. Seles is a little bit tougher.

Just on the off-chance anyone still actually plays this game..

I played Hall of Fame on 'Very Hard' and didn't get the achievement. I don't know for sure but you may want to change the difficulty to just 'Hard' and hope you succeed where I failed..

Just to give some tips on how to beat the Hall Of Fame.

Play the first 7 players on very easy, I can also confirm that this method works, and keep an opponent that has 3 sets and 3 games per set for the match setup.

There are 3 players with these settings, Seles, Nalbandian and Henin. I kept Henin as last, you can do some practice in exhibition against them, but if you are as bad as me it will take you a couple of tries and a lot of luck.

When you serve, use the right stick and try to hit the ball as wide as you can, she'll hit it straight back at you and then charge your shot and hit it to the other side. If she gets to it, even though she shouldn't be able to, just press the B button to finish her off.

When she serves, charge your shot and try to keep her under pressure. After a couple of tries you'll see a pattern on how she hits the ball towards you. I retried 4 times and won with
4-3 and 4-2.

Good luck.

Fairly self-explanatory. Be warned that the A.I gets a lot better on Hard difficulty and uses power and risk shots quite often, so you’ll have to have got to grips with the mechanics of the game before you’re prepared to take them on. The Hall of Fame is one part of The Legend tour on Career mode and you have to play the eight best players in the game on their favourite surface. Good luck.
