How to unlock the World Tour Regular achievement in Top Spin 3 - Definitive Guide

I can't believe nobody has posted a guide for this yet so having just won it, I thought I should post something. Please note, this is just my advice, and not a guaranteed solution. I've seen enough posts from people who've had problems with this to guess that it may well be quite a buggy achievement.

1. First up, the achievement description appears to be inaccurate. While in World Tour mode, you can play quick matches or tournament games. I believe that playing quick matches does not count towards this achievement. It has to be tournament games, and just to be on the safe side, I would recommend playing one of the big 4 grand slam tournaments.

2. Despite what you may have read elsewhere, I do not believe you have to win a tournament match in 5 different seasons, only play one to completion. I got the achievement having just lost the first game I played in the latest season.

3. I *think* that you have to play a game in 5 seasons with the same character so that the stats carry over from season to season. This is based on what happened to a friend of mine, who's character stats kept getting reset at the start of each new season. He did not get the achievement, even after winning a grand slam tournament game in 5 different seasons.

I'd welcome comments from anyone else who has had a different experience, and I will amend my guide accordingly.

EDIT: Thanks to all the commenters for explaining the problem with stats being reset when the game installs an update. It seems that the best way to avoid having your stats reset when an update installs is to limit the number of other Xbox games you play whilst going for this achievement. This is to prevent your Xbox from wiping the top spin update from its cache and redownloading it. Most people have stuck to 2-3 to be on the safe side but you may be able to get away with more if you have a newer model Xbox with a larger cache.

I'm the friend that had the problem. I actually think my stats have been re-setting at random times as opposed to at the start of every new season. It's unbearably annoying having spent so much time attempting to fully complete this irritating game. I've sent an email to 2K Sports notifying them of the problem and basically telling them to fix it ASAP! The thought of having to do another four seasons (waiting another ten weeks) after this one to get the achievement is just a nightmare I don't want to contemplate. However, the worst case scenario is that they won't be able to fix the problem of the games re-setting which means I'd never be able to win it all. Best case scenario is that 2K are somehow able to recover my lost stats which would hopefully mean I could get the achievement right away. I shall keep you posted of how things go.

I finally got this achievement a few weeks back. Basically if for what ever reason the game needs to update (in my case it was because I cleared my cache) then you will loose all your stats and have to start over :(

Unless of course the developers have found some way of fixing this problem but judging from the email I just had from someone who has just suffered the same problem as me I doubt very much this is the case.

Do you know if updates affects this achievement (like it does the others)? I had an update today, and lost all my stats for both my male and female characters. Luckily, I had only played one season.

Some tips to prevent the game from making the famous update which puts the stats to zero :

Limit the number of games which you play at the same time as you try to make this achievement : Apparently, the more the number of games which you play is large, the more you have luck to have updates on these games and if the number of updates the console did is too large, it forces the console to do a new update when you play at TS3. (don't ask me why, it's what i noticed but perhaps there is another explanation...)
At my 2nd try for having this achievement, i played only 3 games in the same time (including TS3).

Another solution is to transfer your profile and your TS3 save on a USB drive and play TS3 from it (but the first time you will load the game from USB drive, you'll have possibly the update).

Sorry for my (probably) poor english.

I can confirm Steeve29's approach, that is what I did as well. I only played 4 different games, including Top Spin 3, for the period of time it takes to work through the World Tour Seasons (2.5 months in full, or just over 2 months if you play a match the very 1st day into the 5th season).

Qwanimal is correct in stating that you must play tournament games for it to count. If you win the first of your tournament games and the achievement does not pop in the 5th season, do not be alarmed. The game will register your 5th season when your participation in the tournament has been concluded, either by being knocked out in a later round, or by winning the tournament as a whole.

The achievements in this game are incredibly frustrating, especially with the game updates occurring for seemingly no reason, so I am glad that this information has been made available to the community so you don't have to go through the same heartache I and others did.

just got this achievement and thought i'd throw in my 2 cents as well:

i played about 50 different games over the course of the 2 1/2 months for the World Tour Regular achievement. my strategy was simply to insert the Top Spin 3 disc and boot up the game between every 2 or 3 games. I have a 250gb Slim model 360 which I believe has a larger cache file but this seemed to help me from losing the games update and subsequently losing all progress. i don't know if i was merely lucky or if this really did help the system to keep the title update but this is what worked for me so i thought i'd share it since it worked and didn't prevent me from playing lots of other games in the process.

i did tournament games for 4 of my 5 seasons and simply did a quick match for the 5th world tour season and the achievement popped immediately afterwards. this one is really a bastard with the way they programmed it but best of luck to everyone!!

I just started the game but had a thought. I use the really old xbox on my main account and have extra hard drives. Might be worth updating a second hard drive and using that just when I play topspin3. If the cache really is involved will this still help? Or I could just use a diff xbox for nothing but getting this cheeve.

I played 3 seasons with my main male character and when I went to load up season 4 my screen kept freezing. I ended up creating a new female character and was able to enter season 4. I played season 4 and 5 with the new female character and the cheevo popped.

I left a more detailed post at the x360a.org forums if this happens to you and want a more detailed explanation of what happened and how it worked out.

Just thought I'd leave this comment so if it happens to you, you don't panic...

I had to delete my whole game and make new characters because of major issues. Just like above I did 3 then my game went wacky and would not load. Made a new female character to play 4 and 5. On the 5th one I had my dummy quit out and the cheevo popped.

I can confirm this does not have to be done on a single character. I had a female character I used for season 1-3 that would freeze the game every time I tried to load her into world tour. I then created a male character for seasons 4 and 5 and the achievement popped.

This is only a solution for the crappy updates that wipe your progress.

I recently replaced my 2 xboxes with new ones in the middle of going for this achievement so I didnt bother to transfer my player data for the online achievements, however, my wife did.

I thought of an idea which was to log in with a silver account (or gold if you want) to trigger the update. Let the game update then sign out and sign in with your main account.

I can confirm this method works as my wife has her record, so you can carry on from where you left off regardless of any updates due to your cache wiping or whatever

xbox support told me that slim boxes don't have a limit to their cache so you don't get an update (usually - i still got updates when i was just "trying" for this). but now i have updated at least 30+ games and still have my progress (4 seasons - tomorrow will be my last... hopefully...)

Each season in world tour last about 700 hours. You have to either win or play a game in at least 5 seasons. You can check your progress by going to your players page on the world tour home screen

If you play all 14 online events to completion (win or lose) then the season will end and you can start a new one, so you’ll need to do this five times to unlock this award. The season’s are also timed so I’m not sure if you have to wait for time to run out before a new season will begin – any help would be appreciated here.

Took me ages to gain this achievement, but I have found a way to get it. If you have got two hard drives, just make sure you only play top spin on that hard drive and play other games on another hard drive. This allowed me to never install/update the game.

The only problem I had with it was it kept freezing on my last season, so I created a female character and played 1 game and the achievement popped.

Hope this helps.
