I was playing in career when i got this achievement, the computer served first, i hit my return and 3 more shots all good or perfect timing, that 4th shot was a winner, so the serve counts as the rally. if you were to play more than 8 total shots you must keep hitting good and perfect timing, you can't hit your first 4 with good or perfect and then win with too soon.
If you are having trouble hitting good or perfect timing shots try hitting control shots ( tap the button A,B, or X (you could do Y also) right before the ball is hit to you) , as i thought that these were the easiest. this may take practice to get down, eventually you will get it though.
