As soon as you leave the camp you start in, you can send your pet to town. Just press

to select the PETS tab. Hold 
to send them off on their merry way. You don't need to give them anything and they'll return in 10 seconds.

In the upper left hand corner, while playing, is the pet quick menu. There you will see a green house icon just like this achievement icon. Just click this icon.
Your pet (and I recommend a Bulldog - cause why wouldn't you pick the bulldog) will return to town and sell whatever he's carrying.
