How to unlock the Spectacular Find achievement in Torchlight II - Definitive Guide

Credits to folks at psnprofiles for this tip. I got using this method. But still a 10 to 20% chance. I got after 30 mins trying this method.

You need to reach level 100 first. You should also be having around 300k gold minimum. Then go to map works gambler and buy all weapons. His stocks stack up to your level so you being level 100 increases the chances of him having a legendary item in stock. Concentrate anything that costs above 10k. If you got the item well and good. If not just dashboard quit( while still in store screen, press menu button on game pad and quit) and load the game again so that you don’t lose any gold. Now switch between various waypoints or just enter and exit various dungeons(3 or 4 should do) and comeback to the gambler at mapworks. His stocks will be new and try buying all weapons again. Repeat as needed until you get the item.

I had 25% luck bonus on my stat too. But not sure if that even matters

Video proof that this is how i got the item

Dashboarding would save to the cloud I’m guessing, best bet would make sure you have a good save at the cloud ( maybe save and quit and dashboard to be sure ? 🤷‍♂️) before buying the items.. once you have done that buy the items and don’t quit but go to manage game and delete save from console
That should boot you from your game and when you start it up again it reload your game from the cloud ( which should be before you brought everything)

Just wanted to say this solution works, HOWEVER, a crucial piece of information that I found scouring Reddit was that you have to travel from Zepharash (the town hub with the Z in it, whatever it's called), to any other camp, then back to Mapworks before his inventory resets. I was early into my NG++ run and I thought I could just move from Mapworks to the first camp and over to another map in order to reset his inventory, but nope, it won't work. You must have the second camp unlocked before doing this. +1 anyway.

Either dashboard quitting no longer works, or I am doing it wrong. Maybe extra info regarding that in the description would be nice. Thanks.

I think the dashboard quit is not done properly by you guys. The game saves when u exit out of the store. So by dashboard quit I mean, while still inside the shop screen in game press menu button and quit the game. This will prevent the game save and you will retain the gold

I don't think I've ever seen a legendary item in this game, even on the Pc version where I've 100s of hours put into it...
Definitely going to try this once i get to lvl100 and get 1m million gold out of the was.

There is an alternative method to obtain a legendary item using the transmutation system they added in a patch. It takes some work but it's a guaranteed legendary. You will need the following items, and they must all be level 75 or greater:

4x Huge/Giant Embers. These can even be simple white embers, as long as they have the prefix Huge or Giant. I was able to buy several from a vendor in camp.

3x Unique Weapons, 3x Unique Helmets, 3x Unique Gloves, 3x Unique Chest Armor. These are the orange items you can find often from boss drops. Another method of obtaining extras is to create a Summon Vendor Boon Scroll through transmutation (any 3 set items, blue ones are fairly common, and a town portal or identify scroll). The vendor summoned will sell many unique items but they are a bit expensive.

With all those items, go to the transmuter (there's one at each camp and the mapworks, it's the icon that looks like a potion in a bottle). Select the top option and create a Legendary Strength Shard, Focus Shard, Dexterity Shard, and Vitality Shard with your items. Then go to the top left option and you can turn those shards in a random legendary item which will pop the achievement.

The drop rate for legendary items IS SPECTACULARLY LOW, (Beanpotter says it's 0.05%, I can believe this) so if you've played Diablo and you thought just playing on a high difficulty once you've levelled up some would have them dropping like water, think again - legendaries are so rare in this game getting a full set in every slot would take you thousands of hours.

I beat the game on hardcore (took me 3 characters) and reached level 100 on my 4th softcore character, and did not see a single legendary drop the entire time, in that time I had 2 vendor boon scrolls drop - he never stocked any legendaries despite me rerolling him 15+ times.

The only way I got this achievement was through a friend - when I was taking his character through hardcore on my higher level character, he had a legendary polearm drop for him. He then traded this to me, and the achievement popped.

This means people can give you this achievement by trading a legendary to you (probably the quickest and easiest way to get it)

I would be willing to do this for anybody who still needs the achievement after having reached level 100 on the basis that you trade the item back to me afterwards so I can give the achievement to other people.

I have a hardcore new game + character with a legendary. I'd be glad to let someone grab it for the achievement and then give it back. Please send me a message about it as I'm not likely to check responses here.

Legendary items are RED in color, and theoretically are only available to drop past level 50. This ended up being my last grind trophy. In 50 hours of playtime across NG, NG+, NG++ I never saw a single legendary item drop for me. The RNG is ridiculous, online forums suggest a 0.04% drop rate from bosses for a legendary. So I wish you much luck, lol. But here are 2 solid strategies if you aren't an RNG god.

- Buy a random Legendary from Duros the Blade.

Starting in NG++, Duros has a small chance to carry Legendary items in his inventory. All his items are marked with ??? but legendary items will have a massive price tag to them, in excess of 14k or 15k gold. Combine this grind with your LVL 100 AND your 1,000,000 gold trophy grind by progressing to "The Minehead" at the end of your NG++ run. This is the perfect spot because Duros is located right next to the zone out exit and his items restock by going through and coming back. Once you have your 1,000,000 gold trophy you will have a lot of funds, just spend away on any 1H or 2H weapon that is 14K or higher. Eventually one will be a Legendary. After about an hour of zoning in and out I saw a 15k Crossbow that ended up being Legendary. I was Lvl 100, not sure if that helps or matters at all, but I saw nothing past 12k in his shop while playing NG++ until I hit Lvl 100..

- Earn it via Chest drops.

In the Ossean wastes there is a quest called Tarroch's Tomb. You wander around the overworld collecting souls from champions and depositing them in an urn by a cave. Once you have enough souls the dungeon opens and it is a phase challenge consisting of Lvl100+ spawns in waves. The mobs move fast and hit hard, my Embermage was being one-shot routinely. There are 10 waves in total and each successfully completed wave generates 3 treasure chests. If you die, you lose all chests... but you can opt out at the end of any wave and collect the chests that are there. After about wave 6 or 7 gold chests spawn, holding high level unique items and (allegedly) legendary items. Tarrochs Tomb is a great source of EXP if you aren't lvl 100 yet, I'd recommend giving it a try... who knows, you might get RNG lucky and get a legendary early.

In the Card Workshop there is Raccoon Transmutator Albrecht, in his Recipes for creating frames tab, you need to create 4 legendary fragments (strength, concentration, agility, durability). To do this, you will need 4 huge stones of at least lvl 78, unique things - 3 helmets, 3 mittens, 3 breastplates, 3 weapons, also not lower than 78 lvl. Next, in the Recipes for creating things tab, click Create a random legendary item.

Does not appear on a new game in 5 minutes. It's random. Easier to craft

Random. It is recommended to pursue obtaining ng+ closer to lvl 100.

Apparently there is a terrible randomness here, or with the latest patch it was fixed and until you reach level 100, the red items do not drop even once, even with an increased chance of finding magic items, the yellow items flowed like a river and even the seller of random items did not drop even once. After reaching level 100, I fell immediately when buying one weapon from a random items dealer.
