How to unlock the Time trial (Difficult) achievement in Tour de France 2009 - Definitive Guide

4st stage is the best (2-90 corners), pick Cancellara and try to keep 54 km/h all the race (try to stay in light orange, not red). When you're before a corner, slow down a bit and cut into the gras (if you do it well, you won't loose more km/h than after you slowed down). I had -6' seconds at the first checkpoint, +5' at the second checkpoint (you'll loose time because they do more than 54km/h i think) and -11' at the last one.

If you don't loose time with corner, you can win with no problem at all.
Good luck.
(Tried more than 20 times to get it ... pretty boring)

This worked perfectly (after more than a few tries). I just wanted to add that hitting left on the D Pad during the racers selection screen will remove the rest of the team so you can just race Cancellara. Also, you might add that he is on team Saxxo for those who dont know.

Just got this after a lot of tries. I had exactly the same times as you for the first two but finished on 0 seconds and got the achievement. Very lucky. I found keeping at 54km/h and not going mad at the end to stay on 50km/h worked for me. If I ever went down to 46km/h it was game over. Horrible achievement!

This is by far the most difficult achievement in the entire game. You have to win one of the three time trials in the Tour de France. I would suggest taking the second time trial (Montpellier) since that one only has 2 sharp turns in it. The sharp turns are probably the places where you will lose the most time so practice them well. The best way to win a time trial is by practicing it over and over and over until you eventually luck out and win it. My advice is to pick Team Saxo bank since they have the best cycler for time trial (Fabian Cancellara) and to learn how he moves and what his max speed is. Every cycler turns different and has a different energy bar and it takes time to get used to each different cycler, so for your own sake just stick to one cycler and try to find out how fast he can ride (with Cancellara it would probably be around 54km/h) while not running out of energy before the race ends and when and how hard to brake before a sharp turn. This will take alot of tries before you eventually get it but you will notice that you will gradually get better every time you try.

Note: it has been said that the best way to get through the sharp turns is to brake by going over a piece of grass and not brake yourself. However, I have found this method to be very risky (if you fail at any point you will lose at least ten minutes) and, for me, it wasn't really faster.
