While dropping blocks down quickly is key to hitting the 183 blocks, your partner plays a huge role in keeping the timer at bay.

While one person drops tower blocks, the other is supposed to align them to the lit column. Each column that the player pushes into the lit region will add an extra second to the timer.
However, the block that the finger is hovering over, the two above and below it can be moved at the same time (as long as it's not locked in place). So, the trick here is to try and group blocks together first before nudging them in place. The more blocks you have grouped together, the more bonus time you get.
1 block moved in place: +1 second
2 blocks moved in place: +2 seconds
3 blocks moved in place: +4 seconds (+1/+1/+2)
4 blocks moved in place: +6 seconds (+1/+1/+2/+2)
5 blocks moved in place: +9 seconds (+1/+1/+2/+2/+3)

Moving blocks of 5 into the lit column will greatly improve your chances of hitting 183 blocks.

Tip: Don't nudge the top block. It throws off your partner who is trying to drop the next tower block. Again, try and leave a least five blocks out of alignment, that way you can maximize the amount of time you can gain to build more towers.
