How to unlock the Effective Tactician achievement in Toy Soldiers: Cold War - Definitive Guide
Got this one in co-op with my buddy ShadyShall last night on Jungle Heat. We tried lil devilz method a few times, but always got overrun during the last 2 waves. The method that worked for us was a slight variation on a Gamespot YouTube video by Justin Calvert (linked below). All credit goes to him.
Basically, you use every emplacement. Here was the setup we used (same as the video).
1. Place your Artillary on the big square in the back.
2. Place a machine gun on the circle next to the Toybox entrance on the back right. This is the only unit you need to upgrade.
3. Place 4 Anti-tank Rockets. All four go next to the main road leading to your Toybox, two in the front and two along the left side of the road.
4. Place a Makeshift on the last spot, on the left closest to the rock.
5. Place several pieces of barbwire on the road, right in front of the Toybox entrance (click down on left thumbstick, rotate with RB). This will slow down infantry if they walk through it.
Your build order should be Artillary first, followed by the machine gun and then two Anti-tank rockets. The last two Anti-tank and Makeshift can be built whenever. As far as upgrades, only upgrade the machine gun. The video shows him doing it with only one upgrade. We kept having issues with one or two soldiers getting through on the last infantry wave, so we upgraded it to level 3. The key to the whole thing, as previously stated on the other solutions, is to keep rotating your artillary to where the action is. Also, the two front Anti-tank Rockets will take the brunt of the damage, so repair them when needed. Also, don't forget to hit x to bring in the next wave when prompted to help keep your mission time down. Don't forget that the Final Wave has no infantry, so feel free to sell the Makeshift and machine gun if you are a little short on money. When the achevement popped for us, we actually had not sold anything back, so you you do not have to do that part if you feel you have enpugh money for gold. Basically, it you just follow the video, you should have your achievement in a few tries.

A couple of other noted related to this one... you need to crack 70% for profit. As long as you keep hitting X to spawn the next wave and don't let a single man/truck through... all you need to worry about is spending money. Try to repair only when down to 10% or so (don't wait too long or a tank blast may destroy your turret and it costs way more to build again then to repair). When we got it, I actually had sold 1 or 2 of the turrets, and it makes a difference. It pushed our final up to 72% profit... the game prior we had 68%.
But yeah, the idea here is BLANKET COVERAGE! Don’t build just a few turrets and supe them up, have a bunch of level 1s all over the place pounding the incoming forces.
And use the barbed wire! Spend $300 or so and use it! It WILL save your butt a few times!

I found it easier to get this achievement on the basic training level as well. Here is my video showing and explaining the easiest way to do it in my opinion.

Ok so the stipulation for getting a platinum is as follows you must get three gold medals in 1) toy box health must be 20/20 2) you must have your aggression high enough which means that you do not wait for any waves you must hit x quickly to force send them 3) the amount of money you save at the end has to be at least 70% of what you earned, if going for this on co-op bear in mind that it totals both of yours for this and finally 4) you must not have any wave resets I only did one reset and got 3 golds but no platinum overall
Also a note is that on general you cannot operate the turrets
The level I did this on was jungle start of looking towards where the enemies are coming from and
1) immediately build a gas on the right of the entrance then upgrade it immediately
2) now on the left there should be three small encampments place a level one anti-tank one the middle one
3) now save up to 900 for the artillery and then rotate it ( lb or rb) till it faces the entrance. The only time you should rotate it away from this spot is on heavy tanks don't move it on the guys or light tanks
4) alternately upgrade the anti-tank to level two then the artillery to two as well finally upgrade the anti-tank to level three and your done spend except maybe a heal
As long as you don't move your artillery too much you should be golden

It took some precision movements with the Artillery Cannon but after 3 tried I got it. Thanks so much! VERY good tactic.
Everyone: you just need to upgrade the Artillery and Anti-Tank when there's no vehicles on the field, just to be sure one doesn't slip past.

Welcome to our solution - I found this easiest on "Jungle Heat", although it seems very possible to do on "Basic Training" - I was unable to do it, and tried on other missions after a few attempts.

- Not let any units into toy box (Keep the number top left at 20)
- Save time - Pressing X to launch next wave as soon as possible.
- Profit - You need above 70% profit, so bare minimum spending is needed, I only repair when turrets are nearly dead, and only upgrade necessary items.

The basic strategy I use is...
A level 1 Artillery on large square, 2 Machine Gun Turrets (left and right of Toy Box), the right I fully upgrade, the left I may upgrade to level 2/3 if its struggling, then use Level 1 Anti Tank turrets on remaining spaces. I will then add 3 Barbed Wire (Click LS and press A to place) in front of the toy boy, and 3 a bit further down the road ( they cost $50 each, but slow the men quite well) - The final wave is all tanks, so sell off your machine gun turrets to give you a little more profit.
You need to get a gold medal on all 3 areas on the end level screen, and you cannot use Wave rewind either. The 3 golds are as follows...- Not let any units into toy box (Keep the number top left at 20)

I got a platinum on Basic Training on Normal first time playing so I thought it would be easiest to get a platinum on General difficulty. It took 3 tries because i kept repairing and that used up to much money.
At the start build Anti-tanks in the circle closest to the toy box and the 2 circles furthest. Put 2 artillery units in the square boxes and finally put a mortar unit in the last middle circle. Now upgrade the Anti-tank closest to the toy box and choose one of the artillery to upgrade to level 2.
You will notice that you cannot upgrade to level3 and you cannot get into and operate any of the units. You just manage them. Remember to hit X to force early attacks.
Do not upgrade anything else before the final boss or repair anything.
When you see the jets about to attack, get ready because you have to do this next part as quick as you can. So when you see the jets about to attack, quickly sell the level 1 artillery and purchase a level1 Anti-aircraft. The Anti-aircraft will take out all 5 jets if you did this quick enough plus your furthest out Anti-tanks should not be destroyed if you were quick enough.
Once the 5th jet goes down hit X to send out Final Boss. The Anti-air will shoot at the Boss and then it just sits there, so sell it right after the Boss gets out of range which is right after its 1st reload. Purchase Artillery and upgrade to Level2.
The key part of getting the achievement is using the RB and LB quickly on the Artillery units.
If any of the furthest out anti-tanks are near dying, I would sell them. (you might get away with repairing them, but I sold mine to make sure I was above 70% at the end). Also you need to be ready to sell them right before the Boss runs over them. The Boss will run over the Mortar when he is about half dead. Both level2 artillery and the level2 anti-tank nearest toy box are safe from being run over from the Final Boss and were the last 3 units I had left when I killed the Boss.
When you get to the final Boss wave, ( i think there are 4 or 5 Boss waves)he is very weak but he sends quick little units to distract you. kill the little units but if the Boss is going to charge, forget about the little units and focus on the Boss. It only takes a couple hits from your level2 artillery to kill it and the little units are weak enough to be killed by your level2 anti-tank nearest the cave entrance(toy box).
This is my 1st solution, so if I need to fix anything, please let me know.

Place the turrets where shown in the video and you should be able to get the achievement after a couple of tries.
Remember to move the position of the artillery turrets by using LB and RB to clear waves quicker.

For this achievement pick the level "Jungle Heat". Immediately place an Artillery turret in the large build spot. Then place a Machine-Gun and Anti-Tank turrets next to the toybox. Add one more Machine-Gun near the front. Upgrade the Artillery once, the Anti-Tank once and, the Machine-Gun once. If you are about to be overrun move your Artillery to face toward your toybox.
