How to unlock the Big Thrower achievement in Track Field - Definitive Guide
There are three major things to remember and accomplish here.
1) Speed
Now, I'm not sure if it's just me being cack handed but I find holding the controller upside down, as i'm right handed, means I can use the palm of my hand to wiggle the 'new' right stick left and right as fast as humanely possible! You can use this method in any other stick wiggling event too.
Anyway, the key is to build up your speed meter so you have roughly one and a half blue squares left. Dependent on the angle of your throw, you have room for marginal error.
2) Angle
This part is the easiest. Make sure you get anywhere between and including fourty to fourty five degrees.
3) Do not foul!
As tempting as it is to run over the line and think your going to 'beat the machine', you'll find this doesn't register your score as an achievement. No means no!
After just a few attempts, that's achievement unlocked!

Your advice to hold the controller upside down just saved me a hell of a lot of time, effort and possibly a broken B button (I didn't know you could waggle the analog stick instead), Thank you so much!

My problem with the analog stick, is that it makes it harder to hit the A button to toss your javelin at the best time. My left hand holds the controller, my right waggles the analog, then I have to move my right hand over to the A button extremely fast, and at the right moment, before I lose the speed, or pass the line. Any suggestions?
