How to unlock the Blackbelt Champion achievement in Trackmania - Definitive Guide

Okay, after suffering a lot I got some knowledge to share on how to complete the black section on royal which is definitely not easy and doesn't seems to have workarounds to make it easy, yet...

For starters, just go play it to get a grip of how things work because I'm not gonna explain the basics of it and you'll understand it quite quickly due to it's simplicity, but now for the actual tips:

1°- If you're wondering why you can't turn off other peoples ghosts don't worry, I'm wondering too, the game has a unassigned option on the controller configuration to turn off opponents but that option only works with cup of the day so "it's not a bug, it's a feature" unfortunately it's made to be this way. You'll struggle with the visual pollution and also with the performance if you're like me in the last gen but, as the match goes on more people will be eliminated so things will get better eventually.

2°- After getting acquainted with a few maps, you'll probably have your list of "I could if I had a few more shots" because I had it too, you should look for guides on YouTube for these easier ones so you don't get caught into any traps or some fake hopes like very difficult endings (definitely didn't happen to me).
I'm not going to list the names of the maps because given from what I gathered, the game has a rotation for the royal maps so it would get dated as time goes on (which means whenever you'll end up trying this achievement, it should be all in one go).

Thanks Tuyu x for the suggestion:
You can practice the tracks you're close to via https://trackmania.exchange/ . Just sign up with your ubi account, search for the track, and add it to your favorites folder. It'll then appear in your local tracks in-game, and you can practice as much as you want.
3°- Friends are very helpful or just a group of fast players whatever works for you, after all, this mode allows for a group of three players to take their chances on this challenge which can help because if your friends are finishing sections that you have issues with, it can still save your run. But remember that most maps will leave you without enough time to finish the black section after being unlocked to the rest of the group, so you can't expect to be carried on this one.
Sidenote: You'll need to finish the black section yourself because if one of your friends complete it, it will not award you the achievement.

In conclusion, it's all a matter of trying and hoping that easy maps keep getting repeated but, the only way that'll happen is if you keep playing it. For those still insecure about their skill in this game, go do the other stuff before trying this one because even though it's a very different mode than what the rest of the game has to offer, the other modes will give you knowledge as to how each terrain handle and literally a better grip on the game's physics and handling.

I guess I wasn't the only mad one obsessed with this game mode huh? Lol, I mean it's a great mode but my intuition made me rage a lot and don't get me started on the teammates... I definitely think it will help shrink the time that it takes yet, I still believe it'll take a while due to the randomness of it all and how easy it is to choke on a good run.

you have to complete it yourself.
if an other player of your team complete it you get no achievement.

I don't recall seeing this map because the one that I finished was a parkour one with a ice background that made you climb platforms, it was really easy with a few tricky jumps at the end. There's also another one that is similar and also somewhat easy but the time is really short to finish the long black section.
And thanks Silvano for confirming it.

If you have standard access, you can go to clubs -> campaign -> y button to search -> royal and you'll be able to practice everything recreated.

As for easy ones to do as of 5/19/23:

Fall Cars is number 1. White, Green, and Red (take the right path and wait for the rotator) should be nearly 100% success rate. Blue should be about 80-90% with practice. Do the first jump with an air-brake so you don't (badly) bonk into the rotator. Take the few seconds time loss, pull all the way back on the last straight away and wait for the ending blocker to be out of the way, then go max speed.

Black is where you'll need practice. I like to full speed drive (from start) while using light-pressed brakes after crossing the starting line (and not from the starting position which is a few car lengths behind it). Will vary per person on what feels good. Air brake alone wasn't enough for me to land with control and half-speed accelerating wasn't enough. Trackmania is counterintuitive to me where you can drive + brake at the same time. Practice the intro, that's 90% of your run killer for black.

After, wait to pass the 2 rotators when safe. At one/last block distance before the drop off (with the back wheels touching the line, so your car is in the last block), you'll want about a 50% acceleration while hard turning to the left and holding brake while jumping to land without overshooting. That's what I like, find what you can do.

Once that's done, you have a high chance of finishing as long as you don't panic/choke.

Land, wait for the rotator. At one/last block distance before the drop off (with the back wheels touching the line, so your car is in the last block), 50% acceleration while hard turning to the right. (brake isn't needed). This one is way easier to land than the previous one, just have to be careful not to over speed.

Last jump is basically an easy version of blue. You don't need max range. At one/last extended block distance is the least amount of (recommended) space, I would just take most of the block (without accidentally overadjusting and throwing yourself off, no point to that), time it so you don't bonk into the exit blocker, and do it.

It helps to know other tracks so you aren't just waiting for 1 track that may/may not show up any time soon, then screw it up due to a lack of warm up.

Other courses I would recommend are:

Royal Heaven: (practice blue jump, it's a little weird.

For Black, You'll need to have some comfort level with ice. I recommend taking right path both times. Line up the jumps or you'll get flung off course. On the 2nd right turn, line up for the jump then accelerate with as little directional input as possible or you'll lose speed and control and miss the jump. End bit after the manual (not turbo jump) jump doesn't need max speed, just a little bit of speed as the ramp turbos you and you need a little speed so you don't just fall. Let the turbo and acceleration carry and lightly steer into the bum. Takes me a casual 30-35 seconds no pressure time in practice session.)

Jump!Jump!Jump (Green requires more left then you'd expect at the beginning on a blind playthrough, easy once you know.

Blue is easy once you learn to line up and don't overaccelerate into the hole at the beginning,

Red is easy if you do the Blue Fall Cars end bit and just take a few seconds to line up the 2nd jump with speed after the first jump.

The trickiest part of Black is the 2nd jump onto the small platform. Afterwards, you need to carry some, but not all of the speed of the jump so you have enough momentum to make the 3rd jump. You CAN start from 0 speed from the start of the larger platform and still make the 3rd jump, but you need to do a circular running start and hit the last corner wide to build enough time to gain speed to jump. It's easier to do it with some momentum from the 2nd jump, but that doesn't always happen of course. After the 3rd jump, you land on ice. If you have time, I would recommend bonking into the wall and kill speed. There's nothing hard left if you don't fall off. Last small area before the jump to the end stops being ice, so just accelerate and land the jump.)

Colorpool (Red: there's a nifty longcut that makes completing the level less luck based/precision base. Just hold accelerate until you bounce on the 2nd water pool, then accelerate + hold hard left. It'll throw you out of the pool area and out to the left. From there, you can just drive to where the exit is on the left side and just drive in. Or you can learn how to bounce it consistently.. I'd rather not.

Black is a pain, but there's some logic to it. At the start, drive up the ramp and to the left and don't go through the 1st super reactor hoop. If done right and angled right, you'll hit the 2nd super reactor hoop, bypassing the need to learn how to air-control from hoop 1 to hoop 2. You need the super reactor to get out of the water section after this jump, so hitting hoop 1 and skipping hoop 2 makes it a very strict time before you run out.. Easier to just learn to hit hoop 2. You don't even need to jump super cleanly through hoop 2, it'll help you readjust in the water section. If you hit hoop 2, hit brake when you land in the water. Too soon and it'll fling you backwards. If you don't do it, you risk going over the edge in front of you. You don't need this Super Reactor to get through this next ring, though the amount of normal acceleration speed is a bit deceptive. Once you go through this Super Reactive ring, be careful you don't speed and throw yourself off. The Super Reactor makes this next jump section easier since you can near instant brake and course correct to get to the exit. If your Super Reactor runs out before you jump, you need speed and to manually course correct to land. There's not enough speed to go from 0-jump without the Reactor, so you have to do some of it with the Super Reactor. Definitely not my favorite track to do, but it's good to know just in case.)

Riseform (I find that the 2nd Red jump is the hardest part of this course. It's not even that hard, but not landing it loses it so much time if you have to redo it a few times. You NEED that time for Black. Black is easy, but is a bit of a long track... like 45-50 seconds if you're not a Trackmania Pro. On any downhill part of black, just go down without accelerating and steer. Be ready to accelerate when you need to go back up before you fall. If you're short on time, you can drive off the top of Black and land in the exit. It might actually be easier than doing the normal exit route too. (though most people won't even reach this part either). This is probably the easiest Black level, but you can't count on it unless you nail Red almost immediately.)

Notechlogic (not one of my favorite course to run, but the Black level is short. What worked for me on Black is to go into the engine off pad with no speed (so about 35-40 on the back of the car. Take the turns wide (you do have room surprisingly) and slightly early, but not too early where you bonk into the pole. Doing it this way, you can't use brakes or you'll lose too much speed, but you'll be going at this as slow as you're allowed. You need about 200 to make that jump. I don't like the other colors much either, but it's nice to know this level's black incase you get carried into Black and have 30 seconds to try it. It takes maybe like 24 seconds to do it.)

A lot of the other levels have 4 easy levels, but the 5th one is a bit nutty. Like Golf, Mount Neverist etc.

I'm glad I don't have to do this again.

Not sure if this track is still in rotation but here's my completion, it's pretty short so even if you've gotten there from a teammate reaching black with little time left, you've got 2/3 goes at it.

Practice the "Air Brake" Black section. Is it by far the easiest and I did 2 loops while I got this achievement.

Yeah, that one is really easy to finish the Black section on. Recommend to get that one while it’s around (should be for six and a half weeks so you’ve got time).

A new royal map "Stellar Fireworks" is a pretty simple black completion, I think the easiest one since the console release.

Changes detailed here:
https://www.trackmania.com/news/7856
Short version is, track skips are removed (you have to beat everything yourself) and you have to complete tracks several times to earn 'stars' based on your time to progress

Got 2/3 blacks on skyward serenity, tough jumps is super quick you could have 3 mins to try the black part.

Alternatively FastBack is glitched and seems to show up every set its just the red is a pain

Does someone know. If you need all the stars in the black section? I got to the black track. Just got time to beatin it once. But no achievement.

Unfortunately that is very likely the case given that ‘complete’ is the descriptor for popping this, which would mean getting a point from the Black segment and looping it.

Thank you for making an actual guide, rather than just stating the obvious. Just to add to point 2, you can practice the tracks you're close to via https://trackmania.exchange/ . Just sign up with your ubi account, search for the track, and add it to your favorites folder. It'll then appear in your local tracks in-game, and you can practice as much as you want. This definitely helped me, so hopefully it saves someone the 8 hours of royal I played before realizing this :)

Personally I find Royal to just be fine. I blame the current map pool trying to be friendly to new players.

Get why you haven’t mentioned easy maps but for those that see this before they change the easiest map to clear the Black section on appears to be the one where every section is one jump to the finish with some holding of the brake button. Got this achievement on my first Royal match thanks to that map.

P.S And also there’s another map that quite literally auto-pops Flymania at the start of the White segment so there’s another reason to grind Royal now rather than later.

The old guide is outdated and does not correlate with the experience I had with this achievement at all, so I figured I would write a new guide for the newcomers. So this achievement has nothing to do with having a group of fast friends or teammates, it's all down to you. And disclaimer, this achievement will take a lot of patience, skill, and lastly luck.

The royale mode is as follows: there are 4 different groups of tracks in each match. Each group contains (from easiest to hardest) a white track, a green track, a blue track, a red track, and a black track. Each match is 6 minutes long and there are usually about 10-20 seconds of bonus time added on at the end of the match. You have to get 10 stars on each track to count as complete and be able to move onto the next difficulty. You can get 4 stars on a run for setting a record, 5 stars for breaking someone else's record, 3 stars for gold time, 2 stars for silver time, and 1 star for bronze time. The time for each track will change depending on the current record from the player pool in the match. Also, a certain number of teams will get eliminated each round. This does not really matter for this achievement, as you just need to complete the black section yourself. There is a pool of tracks that are constantly changing. Some are removed everyday, and some are added everyday. So you will have to just continue to play frequently to get used to some of the tracks so that you can try to complete it. So you just have to get 10 stars on all 5 difficulties of one group of tracks in one match to get the achievement.

Now that we know how this mode works, on to the luck and skill portion of the achievement. You will definitely need to be good at Trackmania games to even hope to get this achievement, unless at some point there is just a ridiculously easy map added into the pool of playable ones. The hardest part about this achievement is time. The best possible scenario to get this achievement is to set the record for the map on the first attempt and then complete it two more times. This would give you 4 stars for run 1, and 3 stars for the additional 2 runs with a gold time. That would be track complete and then on to the next difficulty. This is essentially what you have to do for all five difficulties. At times I found that I would do this exactly and still not have enough time to complete the black map. This was without botching a run or anything. Just some of the groups of tracks take 25-30 seconds to complete, and there is just not enough time. In my successful run, I was able to somehow break two peoples records, so I only had to complete the first white track twice, as I got 5 stars for each run. I tried recreating this in subsequent runs and figured out a way that you can do this, but it just requires a bit of luck that you don't have really good players in your match. If you wait a few seconds before you start out, a record will already be set that you could potentially break for 5 stars. Then, by the time you make it back to the finish line, another record could be ready to be broken for another 5 stars. This would be extremely lucky but would save you a ton of time.

Sorry for the wall of text, but I just figured I would try to help out some people who are looking to get this achievement in the future. This guide could help someone at some point. There also might be a group of tracks in the future that make this achievement a breeze. They could either be really short tracks or really easy tracks. Good luck to everyone trying to get this one.

The black section is the last, and hardest part of each royal map set. There are three hurdles to getting this task done - 1. Reaching the black section in time to complete it; 2. Being able to complete it (irrespective of time) and 3. The Royal maps rotate out, so you have a limited time to get used to and master a particular map. On top of this, in January 2024 an update changed the way royal works which made it more difficult to get this trophy.

Instead of moving on to the next map after completing it, you need to get 10 stars to advance, which normally requires 3-4 passes of each section. However, the time limit has been increased to 6 minutes to compensate. You will need to get all 10 stars on the black track to get the trophy, a single finish is not enough. Stars are awarded based on your finish time:

The gold time is quite generous, so most finishes on a track should be gold. The key to getting through the easier maps fast is to get 4 or 5 stars on one of your runs otherwise you will need 4 finishes per track to clear it. The format change has not been particularly popular with the community, which is a good thing in this case as there is less competition for records - if you join a regular Royal match right before or during a Super Royal (20:00, 04:00 and noon CET) there is a chance you will be only racing against a few other people and a bunch of bots.

It is highly recommended to find and practice the later sections of maps you like to improve your chances of finishing. This can be done by searching "royal" in the club rooms (subscription required - you will need a subscription for several other trophies anyway) . Once you are satisfied you can complete the sections regularly, all you have to do is play enough Royal matches for your favourite to come back around.
