How to unlock the Not bad for a first try achievement in Trackmania - Definitive Guide

This can be found under Live > Track of the Day.
The cup event takes place at specific times of the day, those being (in UTC) 5PM, 1AM, & 9AM. See in-game for times in your local timezone. There will also be an in-game note if one is about to start.
Be in a live track of the day lobby when the time comes and you'll be put into the cup of the day game, where you'll play a 15 minute long qualifying round. You can join anytime during this round also if you don't want to play for the full 15 mins, but you need to finish at least once to be put forward into a division based on your best time with 64 other people.
From there, no specific results needed, play until elimination. The first round has no eliminations, press the restart track button to get a DNF and a quick elimination in the second round if you want.
Bonus tip, make sure to go into settings > controls and bind the "hide opponents" action to a button, or you'll end up like me

Nadeo is giving all Starter (free) players access to the Cup of The Day from September 11th to 12th.

What am i missing here ? ive played for the full 30 min timer finished 17th then it just started again with no achievement?

Each day, a user created track is nominated by the developers to be the Track of the Day (TotD). The Cup of the Day (CotD) is held on this track. Cup of the Day is held at 19:00, 03:00 and 11:00 Central European Time (the location of the developer studio). The new TotD premieres in the 19:00 event and is used in the two repeats.
To get the trophy, you will have to play out a CotD until you are eliminated. First, you will need to join the Track of the Day server shortly before the event time from the "Live" tab on the menu. When the top of the hour comes, you will be sent directly to a qualifiing server. Here, you have 15 min to set your best time to be placed in a division. At the end of the 15 min qualifier, players are placed in divisions of 64 in order of time, creating as many divisions as needed to include everyone. From here it is a knockout event. Once you either get knocked out or win, the trophy will pop.
