How to unlock the BR 187: What a Haul! achievement in Train Sim World 2 - Definitive Guide
This is a guide that can be applied to most locomotive mileage achievements in this game.
Creating the custom scenario.
1. Schnellfahrstrecke Koln > Tools > Scenario Planner > Press LB to create new
2. Enter a name for the scenario (I usually name it after the train being used), press confirm
3. Press Back button (2 square button) and tick "Off The Rails", press confirm (this allows all trains to be used on this route and removes the restriction on train selection).
4. Press LB to add service
5. Pick "Koln Hbf Platform 9" as the Start Marker with A then press confirm.
6. Pick "Aachen Rothe Erde Platform 11" as the End Marker with A then press confirm.
7. Press confirm again, don't tick any stops.
8. Press confirm once more to confirm service.
9. Pick the train you wish to use for this service. (DB BR 187 in this case)
10. Pick the shortest train on the list so you can speed up the locomotive easier.
11. Enter a name for the service, again just type the name of the train, you have to type something though. Press confirm at the bottom.
12. The scenario is now saved and ready to use.
13. Press B to back out to the Scenario Planner selection menu and press A twice to start the Scenario.
This custom route has a significant distance (about 45km) where the speed limits go super high so most locomotives will be able to go full throttle without worrying about exceeding speed limits and earning more towards the mileage achievements and quicker due to being able to go faster.
Just keep replaying this scenario over and over, quitting out at about the 12km mark at the latest where the speed limit drops below 160kmph where most locos will be over the speed limit.
If done right, you should get about 40-45 km towards your desired achievement in about 15-25 mins (depending on the top speed of your loco).
Again, this achievement can be applied to most locos, it didn't work for the Steam locos from the Spirit of Steam DLC however because I couldn't get the brakes to release on them on Koln route.
Note: there is a slight chicane at some point down the route (about 45km from Aachen), some locos have derailed for me at this point by going full throttle. If this happens, just lower the throttle before leaving it to idle. This happened rarely for me, most locos go through the chicane fine at just under 200kmph.
Achievement progress will be updated when you quit the scenario, it won't update during most of the time.
Using save states on this custom scenario always crashes the game for me on loading the save state (even on a Series X) so don't rely on save states

I always found the LGV Mediterrane route best for distance achievements, as it’s the longest one (84km) without slowing down much. Some steep climbs, but fast declines towards the end. Just have to slow down to 160 - 140kmh towards the end
