I've been doing the 11.10 Kreuztal to Hagen service. No stops, no red lights.
Says destination is 26 miles away at start but it adds 36.5 miles to the total driven, providing you stay below speed limits.
1820km is 1131 miles, so 31 trips if starting from 0, which you won't be if you leave this achievement till last.
Edit to add: I saved the game once I started moving to avoid having to do the whole start up process each time

I used the BR182 Night Rider scenario on Rapid Transit, you can get straight up to 95mph (over 150kmph), make a save and then leave the train on 10% throttle to maintain the speed and you will go through a red signal about 7 mins later.
Gets you about 9-10 miles (14.5-16km) each time though.
