Having just done this today, I can confirm that the save and reload works.
1. When you are just about 5 yds away from final objective
and go to Save
2.
Then it will finish the trip
3. Continue. Then select Main Menu
4. Then select Last Played.
Repeat 3 & 4 until it unlocks.
The achievement counter didn't work on mine, so just counted until I'd done 15
