How to unlock the Heavy Metal War achievement in Transformers: War for Cybertron - Definitive Guide

This achievement is surprisingly easy to get solo though it is time consuming.

Just play as Air Raid on the autobot map and camp out on the broken bridge. The short side offers plenty of cover. As soon as you have enough points, get the proton burst rifle with the zoom capability. I think it is in the room where you can refill your energon which will be below you to the left. Then open the door that is also in this room to have access to the overshield. You will also need to open the door here back to the main area so you will be able to get the overshield by just jumping off the broken bridge and flying back into this room without having to go back up the ramps. Now, just stay on the bridge and use your cloak to fly down and get ammo and overshields as needed. Ammo is on the ground to your right and you should now be able to access the overshield room directly below the broken bridge. The only thing you have to watch out for is that on round 3 and after, enemies may spawn in the tunnel behind you on the bridge. I just looked down the tunnel after killing each enemy on the ground below to make sure nothing was coming. If you catch them when they first spawn, they are very easy to destroy. I completed all 15 waves like this solo without ever having to fight any enemies on the ground.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the solution and the comment above. Is there any way to pause when playing solo? I don't think I can last 4-5 hours straight. Hitting Start brought up the menu, but the enemies kept coming.

How long does the achievement take with a full group of 4 players?

This worked an absolute treat.

What I would add though, its probably best to either host the match or so it on your own. 4 times this week the host has quit out on level 14/15 and the game has ended. So by hosting the game, you may find players come and go, but there is no fear of the game suddenly ending 4 enemies before the end!!

To answer my own question, while you can't Pause (as far as I can tell), you can hang out on the bridge idle as long as you like. Just make sure no one is coming through the spawn point and you've killed all the jets.

Word of warning about Brutes: they can apparently see through your cloak and will do a ground pound EMP that decloaks you and slows you down. I was doing great with this method, all the way to Wave 13. Then a Brute decloaked me and I was swarmed by Titans.

This method is quite good actually, until you notice that everyone and their mother goes for Air Raid, only to die on wave five....

UGH!!!!! I was doing great, about to get to wave 12, I go down to get more ammo, I accidentally knick a barrel while in jet mode, it blows up, and there goes my invisibility, and I'm killed....

There's goes 2 hours....So make sure you blow up all the barrels in your way to the ammo point!

BTW, you play solo by hosting a private match.

I can vouch for this. It took ~4-5 hours but I rarely even needed to get health.

Just be careful not to fly into barrels or get caught in a brute's shockwave because they'll uncloak you (and probably hurt)! I never used anything other than the default assault rifle and burst rifle, but I guess it doesn't matter with basically infinite ammo available. If there's a bigger guy standing in front of the ammo door, try to lure it away by either flying to the other end of the bridge or walking between the fallen pillar on the bridge and the wall.

When a new wave starts, it's usually best to stand beside the end of the fallen pillar. If you hide behind the pillar (ie between it and the wall) missiles will sometimes find you, but otherwise it's a great place to recover health.

Don't worry about funds because you'll max out at 9999 at some point shortly after wave 10. For waves 12-15 or so, I emptied clips on everything and cloaked/flew for ammo repeatedly.

Another passive strategy is to get brutes close to other enemies (preferably titans), then blow it up to greatly damage/kill everything nearby with the explosion. It might save a couple ammo runs.

This achievement can be very difficult so you're going to want a full team with mics. First of all, you want to play as the autobots. When you start just try to keep as much health as possible and have a variety of classes of autobots. You want to have your team pool their points to open the door that costs 700 in the room with the emp shotgun. Next, have your team stay there and buy a healing ray so that you wont have to worry about health. Stay there until about wave 8 and buy the HIX Scrapmaker. If the healer needs anything be sure to buy it for him/her.

After round 8, move to the room diagonal from where you are and buy the door. It costs 400. Go up there and buy overshield whenever you need them. Oversheilds will heal your health and give you a sheild. It is a good idea to stay in the downstairs or on the stairs unless you need to move.

I dont recommend buying the door that costs 2500 because it wastes too much money. Open extra doors if you need an escape route and dont forget that your vehicles have weapons too. If you are going to die, try to die on the oversheild pad because it will instanly revive you. Also, the tank comes on wave 15 so dont go outside unless you have too.

Im happy to help anyone who needs it so send me a message on xbl if you need it. Peace

Edit: Im sorry guys but im not helping anyone with this achievement anymore because people have not listened to what I say and it wont work. Also people didnt have two other people to help and the expected me to find them. Sorry to everyone who really needs help.

This achievement is much easier to get when your playing as autobots. The easiest way to get this is to open the door to the overshield its by the ammo on the first floor. Go up the ramps youll see the overshield it cost 250 but they will also give you full health basically camp up in that room for a while then open up the attached door. Dont waste your money on the 2500 door though its not worth it just use the sniper rifles and machine gun, the sniper rifle is obtainable if you chose to open the repair gun door, which id suggest reading the other guide if you want more info. If your going zombie style then leave a jet alive they dont do much damage. Really dont matter who you play as i played as jetfire though because his hover ability is useful against brutes.

Notable Enemies
Wave 8-Brutes begin
Wave 10- Titans begin
Wave 15- Destroyers begin

Lastly for those of you wondering yes the game continues after wave 15.

2500 Door is not a waste, it's how the record holders got to Wave 55, teamwork is all that's required.

rachet is a good character to use also for his shield and turret abilities. you can use the energon healing ray to repair the turret and they do alot of damage to enemies. fight conservatively (no lone guns) and defensively.

Ok, just managed to get this with a bunch of randoms believe it or not. We used a tactic I'd not tried or seen before. I must say, after struggling trying the above methods, the method we used made it seem like a walk in the park.

So, on the Autobot level, basically we used an exploit where you can get to the tiny bridge/walkway between two rooms without having to open any doors on the ground level.

The tiny walkway between the rooms with the overshield and the connecting one with the ammo is where you'll want to go. On the left wall as you're looking up facing the walkway there's two pieces of architecture protruding from the wall. You need to stand on the debris on the floor to reach the first one with a double-jump. You won't be able to visually stand on it but it will hold you there for a couple of seconds, kind of a glitch. You can with a few tries then double jump/jump boost onto that walkway. Then you can open each door that's connected. There you'll have access to the overshield and ammo.

The tactic is basically to camp up on that walkway picking off enemies below, which gives you the advantage of a great vantage point. There is the enemy spawn points in the connecting rooms but as you haven't unlocked any other routes that lead to where you'll be, you'll have far fewer tricky moments where you're getting swarmed from all directions which is usually the downfall as you progress towards wave 15.

The pic shows where you're looking for on the map. Sorry for quality, it's the best I could manage at the time. I've circled the protruding ledge you'll need to get up to the walkway/bridge.

That's it, hope it helps! Leave some feedback if I need to add anything. :)

By far this is the hardest achievement in the game. To earn this achievement you have to play the Escalation Game Mode and survive 15 Waves or more.

Escalation is a game mode which is strongly similar towards the Horde mode that was introduced in Gears Of War games or the Nazi Zombies in the Call Of Duty games etc. You play as one of the Transformer teams and you go against the opposing force on your own or as a team in endless waves. As you defeat the enemies and you pass through multiple waves, the enemies get stronger and you will have different types of enemies to defeat.

You can do this game mode on your own if you wish, but the maximum amount of players that can join is 4. No matter how many players join your progress, the amount of enemies and difficulty will be the exact same, so there is nothing which can be changed in those sections.

You can do Escalation Privately with a group of people/friends you wish to work with, or you can do it Public. If you do the game in a Public Lobby, anyone can join until you've got 4 people in the lobby. In addition should someone leave, someone else can replace that person in the lobby. These people can join either when your in the lobby menu or actually playing the game.
If you do the game Privately with Invite Only, only your friends on your Friend List can join your lobby. No one else such as randoms can join in unless they get invited. Your friends can either join you via the lobby menu or whilst you are playing the game.

Note: Additional players can only join you in this game mode via XBox Live. You cannot do Escalation in Split-Screen or System Link.

There are 2 teams you can choose from and each team have 1 unique map in this game mode. If you choose the Autobots you will be going against the Decepticons. If you choose the Decepticons you will be going against the Autobots.

Rules Of The Game Mode

You will play countless waves against your opponents and you must defeat all of enemies in the wave in order to pass it. The more waves you pass, the more different enemies and stronger the enemy will get. Everyone must work as a team and be co-operative in order for a high chance of survival. Microphones and communications are recommended.

Each time you defeat a enemy you will be given "Power Points" which can be used to purchase ammunition, health, equipment, weapons or even give everyone access to new areas on the map (be aware that enemies can access the area as well).
From this point forward in the solution we will be addressing Power Points = Money. When you play this game mode online everyone prefers calling it money since it's more easier to understand.

Your health will be placed at the top left of the screen. It will be placed into 4 bars and your health regenerates only to the bar it is left on. So an example would be if you take light damage and you have 3 & a half bars left, your health will regenerate back to 4 bars. If you have 2 bars and you lose half of the 2 bar health, you will regenerate only back to the 2 bars. Once a bar is completely empty, you cannot regenerate your health back.

Your ammo is located on the top right side of the screen. You can switch weapons with cn_Y if you have purchased another weapon. You will need to reload time to time with the cn_X button. You can transform into vehicle mode by cn_LSc, and use the cn_RT to shoot your vehicles weapon. Sometimes this can be useful if your out of ammo in your main form, or if you want to escape from a load of enemies quickly. In Transformer mode you can melee with cn_RSc

Bottom left of the screen you will see the enemies you killed, and if anyone on your team dies you will see who killed them. Bottom right of the screen will show you what wave you are on.

Use cn_RB to use a Special Move. Special Moves will be available if you grab the Energon that is dropped on the ground from defeated enemies. cn_LB is another move you can use if need be. Use cn_B button to use equipment such as Trip Mines or Grenades. And lastly use cn_A to jump or press it twice to double jump.

Now if you lose all your health in the game, you will be placed in a Down & Out Position. You will have 1000HP which will drain quickly. If you get attacked it will drain faster (if you are on your own you will automatically die). Whilst you are downed you will need to wait for a partner to revive you. They can revive you by holding cn_X. If they fail and they cannot revive you, you will blow up when the HP reaches 0. If you die you will have to wait until your team completes the wave or if they all die. If you do get revived you will only have 1 of your bars replenished, so you must move quickly to find one of the machines that can help you re-buy a health pack to survive.

If however everyone dies in the same wave, then you will have to start all over again from Wave 1! Luckily this game is slightly forgiving as it will only take you 20 - 30 minutes to reach the 10th Wave in this game.

Setting Up The Game Mode

Firstly I would strongly recommend you have 4 people which are willing to do this achievement with you. You may find random players online which can help you as well, but creating or joining sessions is recommended. Friends may be willing to help you as well since this game mode "IS" to be the "Best" in the game.

Secondly among the two teams which are available to play, the Autobots team is known to be the easiest to get the achievement on. It is strongly recommended that before the host begins the game, everyone chooses a character they will be comfortable with. You can only choose 1 character each, no one can choose the same character.

Some characters in this game will have different strengths and abilities. When I started playing this I chose Bumblebee. He had one main disadvantage which was when I switched him to vehicle mode, he used a Machinegun which I struggled with. I then chose Ironhide who turned out to have a Rocket Launcher when he was in vehicle mode. Recently however I went with Ratchet, who turned out to be the best character since he has the ability to provide a Shield & a Support Turret as his Special Moves.

Once the game is ready and everyone has chosen their characters, let the host start the game.

Note: Once the game begins you cannot pause it as if you press cn_start the game will be kept active.

My Suggestions For Playing The Game Mode

This is assuming you will want to play as the Autobots and play on the specific map that's available for everyone (this is not a Download Content Map).

Teamwork is essential, you don't work as a team you won't survive. The first few waves you play will be a cakewalk but when you get to the later levels, your going to have some fun. Planning ahead is strongly recommended.

OK so when you first start the game you will notice Megatron's Hologram with his famous quotes at the top of the building. This is probably one of the best features on this map.

To the right of you, you should see an inner section of the building and a pod which contains ammo. Around here there is a door that requires you to spend $400 (Power Points = $$$). This is the door you want to open but don't do it just yet. You will need some money in order for you to purchase ammo for your guns. Ammo replenishment costs $50 if you need it, it will replenish vehicle and transformer ammo at the same time.

Now in the outer part of the battlefield, you will notice nearby this inner section another area nearby a pile of dirt. It will have another door for $400 and a Health Machine. This is the best area for you to take cover throughout the whole of the duration of the game. Health costs $200 and you may need to use it if your health gets 1 Bar or lower. Health will replenish your bars back to 4 regardless of how much is left.
There is also a decent weapon here known as the Photon Burst Rifle ($200). It's a 3-Burst Fire Rifle that can also be used in zoom mode to pick off enemies around like the head area.
Until you get to the later levels so that you can buy better weapons keep your Assault Rifle. Do not exchange it at a early point or you'll be in trouble.

Across on the other side from the previous discussed area will be more hut-like areas with on hut on the left that contains Ammo & a EMP Shotgun ($300). This is a great weapon too and it's very effective against the Brute enemies that are protected with Shields & can only be exposed from the back.

The other area contains Health & Flak Grenades ($75). You can attempt to grab these Grenades during the time limit before the next wave, but you must make sure at least 1 person is sitting in the area where you are all taking cover and hiding, because if everyone leaves and the wave begins, enemies will appear in that hide-out.

Tip: Each time you complete a wave, you have 20 Seconds before the new wave appears. Use these 20 seconds to purchase any replenishment's or requirements, and get back into defending positions!

Play along and keep on defeating the enemies as a team until you reach around Wave 4 - 6. When you have enough money head to where the lonesome Ammo is and open the door in the inner section for $400. What you can do here if need be is work as a team to open a door since someone for instance could spend $100 on the door, another player $250 and another one $50 and that will open the door.

Once opened you will have a new defend point which contains a pod with a Overshield ($250) and along the passageway will be some Thermal Mines ($75), these are extremely useful so pick these up if you can. You can carry up to 3 of them.
From this point onwards, new enemies will be able to spawn nearby the Overshield and can block you in so beware.

The Overshield is an extremely useful item and must be bought whenever you get the cash to do so. Not only does it replenish health, but it also protects you with a overlay. When attacked the overlay will drain itself before you start losing your health. Think of it as double the amount of health than a usual Health power-up.

Tip: If a partner needs an Overshield but they are low on cash, consider finding someone who has more money to purchase or put money towards a Overshield for them. A fully healed partner is better than one person with more money and power (revival methods if things go bad).

Return to the hide-out with the Burst Rifle & the Health and keep on fighting hard as a team.

This will likely be the game mode that you will enjoy as I believe Escalation Mode is what made Transformers: War For Cybertron a great game. If your wondering what the game mode is going to be like, I have provided a sample...

Wave 15: Completing this wave would get you the achievement...

I hope you enjoy this game mode, and I wish you all the best of luck! You will need it.

Get a 4 player team together and survive 15 waves in Escalation. This can be very annoying because you are going to get stormed by enemies. Make sure you make use of your abilities for example if you're taking heavy fire drop your shield down if it's one of your abilities and have a teammate bail you out of the mess. Good Luck.

In my opinion, the most successful card is Broken Hope. For a character, take a Soldier (the one who has a Brawl, Optimus cannon in vehicle mode) with the ability of invisibility and shokwave. First of all, open the left gate (where armor is sold for 250 points and there are grenades). Then you open the gate leading to ammo.

Next you need to open the right gate leading to the second floor (where you can buy an x12 machine gun, the best).

We go back and hold the defense with the whole four. Periodically we go to the bridge and shoot enemies from above. You will have only 2 corridors along which pedestrians can reach you. Use energon shields, grenades, etc.

Don't fly far apart from each other, because... This makes it easier to revive your partners.

It is important not to die, since your additional weapons (a machine gun costs 500 units) and grenades (75-125 units) will immediately disappear.

You will need invisibility to take health or replenish ammunition, because... enemies will not see you until you start attacking (or it ends).

The hardest trophy in this game. the most important thing is teammates. and the more, the easier it will be for you. I personally received this trophy when I played for the Autobots. use characters with different skills. You definitely need a character with the invisible ability, because... It’s easier for them to revive their comrades. I advise you to open only the left side of the map (if you look towards the main passage with the purple field). there is armor in one of the rooms, if you have little health, then buy armor right away, because... it will restore your health for free. To get the trophy you need to complete the 15th wave. The trophy will appear when the 15th wave is completed or when the 16th begins.
