How to unlock the Demon's dread achievement in Trek to Yomi - Definitive Guide

This is not missable if you complete the game on Kensei difficulty as you are 1 shot anyway. Plus-side is you do insane amount of damage compared to ronin difficulty.

Chapter 7: Final Boss.

First phase i would recommend parrying him right from the start and then do a double heavy combo (Y,Y) rinse and repeat until he's dead. The timing is always the same.

Second phase is a bit more tricky, he will now have access to an exploding fireball and a "carpet" of fire. They are both fairly easy to see coming. Your dogde on (B) is very handy here to get out of the fireball before it explodes (you have 1-2 seconds). When the carpet of fire is summoned, it starts closest to him and rolls out towards you. Again your dogde is a life saver. Generally if you can roll behind him, you can get some good damage but becareful for his swings and be ready to parry (i exclusivly used heavy attacks here).

Third phase he will summon 2 phantoms, one that looks like first phase. This guy can almost be treated as the first phase though he is not as agressive so usually he will not attack right after you parried into (Y,Y). The other phantom i felt really tricky, i cheese'd him with (up+X,X,Y) and tried to keep a distance (if anyone has better tips or more feel free to drop them in the comments).

Forth phase is basically the same as second phase, but I have seen him teleport here so keep and eye out for that.

Happy hunting

The only hard part is the second phantom. My strategy was to parry swap with him and keep my distance while pelting him with all my ammo until I ran out. Usually he should be left with maybe 40% health just from doing that. Then hope I got lucky with my parries and XXY him to death.

For the people that are reporting they aren't getting hit, I had the same experience and wondered whether the achievement was broken. Turns out that the 'fireball' he uses to transition from phase 2 to 3 can 'hit' you without causing damage. He also does it when you knock him down at the end of phase 4, so be careful.

Every time I got 'hit' this way, no achievement; the first time this fireball transition didn't clip me, the achievement popped at the start of the cutscene.

Yeah, this took 5 times to finally unlock for me. It's absolutely those magic attacks that 'hit' you, without taking any health or your character even letting you know you've been hit.
Re-downloaded my save every single time to finally get it and was only doing LB,Y,Y during the entire fight.
Honestly, with the bad performance this game has on my One S, I'm giving up on the completion now, it's torture.

Even though I know I could get it on my final play through, I went for this achievement on my Ronin run. Phase 3 of the fight was BY FAR the biggest sticking point on that difficulty.
The key was keeping my back against the wall, because often the phantoms would double up, with one on each side - making it damn near impossible for me. Arrows, and even shurikens were what I used when in a pinch at the end with these guys.
The first time I made to to phase 4 without damage I finished it - the key to phase 2 & 4 are getting right distances so you can control what moves he will use. I found it easy when getting him to fireball (I roll back to the wall to dodge), then he would come up to spread fire (and I was would roll through him) and YY his back and roll away. Rinse and repeat on each side.

This is the final boss in chapter 7. The fight is divided into four stages. Stage two and stages four are almost identical.

Two remarks beforehand: All enemy combinations will never consume your entire stamina. This is my experience with all the stamina updates I have collected. In the second and fourth phase (demon) you can roll cn_B through the opponent.

Stage 1
It begins simply. You can play safe and always wait for the attacks. Then parry cn_LB them and hit back with a Stunning Combination ( cn_LSu + cn_X + cn_X + cn_Y ). Then block all the attacks and wait until it is quiet again.

It is quicker if you attack with Heavy Stun ( cn_LSl / cn_LSr + cn_Y ) + cn_X. Line up a few light attacks cn_X. If you are sure, you can repeat it once or twice. Otherwise, block all attacks and collect stamina again.

Stage 2
My experience has been to roll cn_B through the opponent and perform a spinning attack ( cn_LSl + cn_X ). Then roll again and do the same again. You should always be behind him if possible. The fireballs and the fire carpet are quite annoying. You should be careful when the boss has only half of his life points left. At that moment he will explode. This will damage you if you are too close.

Stage 3
You will fight a shadow image of the enemy and a minion. For the boss ghost, you can use the same strategy from stage 1. I couldn't parry the minion very well. The second fighting method (Heavy Stun) from stage 1 worked all the better against him.

Stage 4
This is basically like the second phase. Use the same strategy.
