Kill Kagerou Shogun without getting hit

How to unlock the No, that's not possible... achievement in Trek to Yomi - Definitive Guide

TLDR: Basically, it looks like this -

-Parry -> (Y,Y) ->Parry -> (Y,Y) ->Parry -> (Y,Y) ->Parry + (X) -> Parry + (X). and then it would repeat until
around half health (!!!Be sure to wait for the slow motion parry animation to end before doing the heavy
combo, you WILL be hit if you mess that up!!!)

-At around half health I started to a single heavy combo into a parry counter, like this
Parry -> (Y,Y) -> Parry +(X)
and just repeated that until he died.

Full post:

I tried following the other suggestions for this achievement and didn't even get close to beating him for a bit. I ended up progressing my accident and so I had to come back after finishing the game, but that ended up giving me a better idea of what I should do for this unlock.

My main method of beating Kagerou Shogun was to parry anywhere from 1-3 attacks, each time doing two heavy attacks (Y,Y). These dealt a considerable chunk of his health and even without all of the stamina upgrades (I wasn't really trying to get them but if I remembered one along the path I'd grab it) you could go for around 3-4 cycles. After a few heavy combos, I would parry counter him to give myself space and to let my stamina regen. I would do this twice in a row. As his health got lower, I incorporated more of the parry counters (LB, X) and less of the heavy combos to try to prevent Kagerou from doing his fast flurry attack (which worked pretty well for me.

Basically, it looks like this -

-Parry -> (Y,Y) ->Parry -> (Y,Y) ->Parry -> (Y,Y) ->Parry + (X) -> Parry + (X). and then it would repeat until
around half health (!!!Be sure to wait for the slow motion parry animation to end before doing the heavy
combo, you WILL be hit if you mess that up!!!)

-At around half health I started to a single heavy combo into a parry counter, like this
Parry -> (Y,Y) -> Parry +(X)
and just repeated that until he died.

This is the opponent at the end of the third chapter. I just did it on Kensei difficulty right the first time.

-Also, the tip from Infamous on the guide for the "Early End" achievement works perfectly to try again infinitely. If you fail, don't reset to checkpoint, don't menu quit the game, don't start skipping cutscenes, as the game forces you into Chapter 4. Instead do what's outlined below while the death cutscene is playing.

"As for the workaround to only getting one attempt per playthrough, you'll need to use the cloud saves. So after using the shrine before the fight, quit to menu and close the game, this creates a cloud save. Now load up the game and give the boss a try, if you die press cn_guide, cn_start on Trek to Yomi, Manage game and add-ons, Saved data, click your Gamertag then delete from console. (Do not delete everywhere as you'll lose your save!) The next time you load up the game it will sync to your cloud save which in this case is right before the boss and allow you to try again. You can do this as much as you want until you beat him."

The only drawback to this is load times, which can be helped if you use a solid state drive to store your game files.

I disagree with MasterCheeks117, this achievement is a lot easier on Kabuki (easy). I was doing this on Kensei which is a lot more annoying as you have to stay closing the game and doing the cloud save thing each time you get hit since it kills you. If you do it on easy you won't die if you get hit so you can just reset checkpoint. It saves a lot of time and makes this achievement a lot less tedious.

i realized something that might help someone. its not much but as soon as i noticed it i started doing a lot better.

when i was facing him with my right side (me on the left and the boss on the right) i wasn't really paying attention to the little glimmer that appears when you need to counter. after looking for that glimmer instead of going off timing from the swing it got easier. i know it might not be much but the glimmer was a bit less noticeable on the right than when you are on the left side, at least for me.

I struggled with this for a few hours. My 2013 xbox one can't run the game very well and so missed inputs or stuttering was frequent. It's hard on Kensei, and on Ronin, and on Kabuki (easy). Lowering difficulty did not help me in any meaningful way. A few tips:

-Often my machine is still loading the boss fight arena, and so his first swing doesn't parry properly or my attack doesn't register and he hits/kills me right off the bat. Throwing/shooting something at the start usually gave me the second or two for my machine to load properly.

-You'll get into the Parry>YY rhythm pretty easily, and thus can pretty easily get him down to half health. This is when it got exponentially harder for me as his 5-7 swing flurry attacks become much more common. I had to actually re-teach myself to HOLD Block in case he starts a flurry, and only then YY if I watch his sword parry off of mine. You can't simply count on a parry working like it does most times, as then the unexpected flurry easily kills you.

-The gist of the boss battle going well is if he uses flurry attacks, and/or how well you can block them and roll away. He seems to almost always use parry-able attacks after you have had some space between you (ie after a place swap parry). It was best practice for me, after he's below half health, to only do one or two attacks before a place swap to regain space and stamina. It takes patience and a ton of RNG/luck.

Do a Manual save before this boss fight, because you if you die/get enough damage the game carries on into a cutscene and there's no chapter select or reload option.

Battle tactics that will help you beat the boss without damage and unnecessary hassle:
1. The easiest difficulty level;
2. As soon as he deals damage to you, immediately overload the control point. After you take off more than half of his life, he begins to more actively “shred” you with his sword, and if you don’t have time to go to the menu, then hello first chapter. There is no chapter selection in the game.
3. Run out to meet him, place a block and at the same time leave with him to exchange sides, then, standing with your back to him, make a U-turn, delivering two normal and one reinforced blow and immediately roll back. Repeat until victory.
4. There will be many moments where you will not be able to exchange sides with him and then just stand and hold the block, he will not break through it, Kagero will carry out his combination, removing your stamina and then retreat, which will give you time to fully recover. We repeat point 3.

points 3 and 4 are very confusing... you start a fight with him, stand still and as soon as he approaches you, you make a connection and immediately and then immediately roll back, the boss will hit and just stand there, then start to attack you again... the main thing is not to let yourself be driven into a corner. When he makes a blow and stands, he can be pushed back; when attacking him, press a couple of times and he himself will move back.
The most important thing is to listen carefully to the sound so that it doesn’t hit you.

It's even simpler:

1. when approaching Kagero, parry his blow , then ( And ) - repeat 3 times (on easy ones this is elementary, even with my inhibited reaction).
2. next combination + , you change places with him - repeat 2 times to replenish stamina.
3. repeat steps 1 and 2 sequentially until victory (4-5) times.

Shogun Kagero is the 3rd boss, if you kill him without damage, this trophy will drop, the boss is stuffy, but easy, if you get used to it, I recommend making a save before fighting him if you have a plus, and not replaying 3 chapters after each death like me

I recommend doing it on easy difficulty. Then you will have time to load from the sanctuary before the boss arena if you still miss a hit. On higher difficulties, there is a chance of taking so much damage that a cutscene will immediately begin with the transition to Chapter 4.
