How to unlock the RedLynx to the Sword achievement in Trials Fusion - Definitive Guide
This is, in my opinion, one of the hardest achievements in Trials Fusion to date. It requires you to complete all 10 "vs RedLynx" track challenges on the new tracks, many of which are seconds faster than the platinum times. The achievement unlocks upon completing all 10 tracks, and a text walkthrough for every track can be found below:
Elysian skies
I used the Pit Viper for this, although it is possible in the Roach. This track is relatively easy but there isn't much time for mistakes if you want to hit the target time. You will need to use the 1 timesaver ramp, and also hit the lift perfectly if you want to make it in time. Make sure you use the proper driving line as well, and it should be within reach.
Fish & Ships
This one is mostly about the driving line. As long as your stay on course, and don't make any major mistakes, the time is within reach for most players.
Neo Bradford
Not very difficult, especially if you're able to hit the timesaver near the very beginning by using the hanging container. Just stay on your bike, move quickly between checkpoint and you should make it without an issue.
Seismic Activity
The hardest target in my opinion because there is very little for error even though the track is somewhat straight forward. You need to basically get a perfect run through the entire track if you want to make it, and you'll also need to use the correct driving line. I recommend you view the video and practice, practice, practice.
Trials of Ice and Fire
This requires the baggie which may seem like torture, but the required time is actually pretty easy. It can be a little hard to make larger gaps and keep your flow but still very possible. An easy way to shave 1-2 seconds off your time is to hit the set of moving wooden platforms very early, on the very front of the first one. This will make the trap doors open directly under you as fast as possible. Stay on your bike, and make it to the end!
Adelopodia 9
This is all about hitting the right driving line. There is a small timesaver near the beginning if you are able to gain enough height. Next, you'll want to skip any unnecessary gaps in the terrain by using the correct ramps. Lastly, near the end of the track DO NOT go below the metal hanging piece. Instead bounce over the gap on top of it right away and finish the track. There is a decent amount of room for error here as long as you are on the best driving line.
Sleepy Creek
One of the hardest times to beat in my opinion, and the Pit Viper is a necessity. There are a total of 3 important timesavers and very little room for error. After the first checkpoint you want to go through the pipe, off the ramp and land on top of the pipe to kick over the large gap. Progress forward and hit the billboard very low in order to save another few seconds. Lastly, after climbing the log after the billboard, make sure to aim low, get traction and shoot over a gap with a frontflip to skip a section of track. If you can nail these 3 timesavers and stay low to the track with lots of traction and speed, you will squeak by the required time!
Frontside Ollie
One of the easiest of the track challenges. Just keep on the track and use the downward ramps to clear large sections. You can also get a big 5 second time saver near the end by jumping directly from the top of the circular obstacle across the gap to the next checkpoint.
Short Circuit
Pretty straight forward hard track with the Pit Viper. If you can manage a 0-fault run, you should be able to beat the time.
Extraterrestrial
First off, YOU CAN FAULT! There are a few quick timesavers that can be done pretty easily, but there is plenty of room for error as long as you are good enough to consistently 0-8 fault with track with the rabbit. Keep at it, memorize the track and what works the most consistently for you, and with a bit of practice, you should be able to get it.
For this one you will have to beat all of the RedLynx developer times on the Redlynx vs All-Stars tracks. So all of the 10 Trials tracks on the left side of the RedLynx vs All Stars event. Skill game is not required. On some tracks you are required to use a specific bike, thankfully the Unicorn is not a part of this achievement though.
This is the hardest achievement in this DLC, and probably one of the hardest achievements in the game. You will need to learn the driving line of every track and then be consistent enough to beat the times. Less experienced players will have a tough time with this one. Most of the RedLynx times can be beaten easily by most players with practice, but there are a few that can be a pain. Below i will put my thoughts for every track, and i will try to give some tips.
Best thing you can do is play a track a few times to get a feel for it and then
watch my run in the video to know where the driving line is, where to stop, where to
go fast, etc. The absolute #1 tip any Trials player can give you is: Practice.
Don't expect to beat the harder times in 10 minutes, it just doesn't work like that.
By practising a track you will get better at it, often without even noticing.
The easiest RedLynx time to beat is Front side Ollie, if you can't beat this than you have zero chance of getting this achievement until you get better at the game.
The hardest 3 in my opinion are Sleepy Creek, Seismic Activity and Elysian skies.
Below are my thoughts on all of the 10 tracks, in order of the video:
Elysian skies
You can use any bike for this one. I used to roach. I recommend that you do the same.
It's an easy track but you will have to stick to the driving line and make the timesavers in order to beat the time. Try to copy what i did in the video.
Fish & Ships
This is a Viper track but you are required to use the Roach to beat the RedLynx time.
Again, try to follow what i did and stick to that driving line.
Neo Bradford
Not a difficult track but you are required to use the Rabbit so that will make
things a bit harder. Learn the track and try to maintain medium speed at all times.
Perfect run is not required to beat the challenge time.
If you have trouble, try to "cheat" at the finish line by diving forward
like i did in the video.
Seismic Activity
You can use any bike, i went with the Viper.
The track is pretty straightforward but the RedLynx time gives almost no room for error. That is why this is one of the hardest RedLynx times to beat.
Practice this driving line and watch my run. You have to follow the same route or else you won't be able to beat the time.
You might have an easier time with the roach.
Sticking to the driving line is key, if you miss one jump, its over.
Trials of ice and Fire
You are required to use the Baggie for this one.
The Baggie handles about the same as the roach, but it is a bit slower.
The challenge time is not that easy, but fortunatly its not a difficult track.
Your main focus here is making sure you don't crash.
Once you are able to do a steady, zero fault run you should keep playing
it and making small improvements on your PB until you beat the RedLynx time.
Adelopia 9
This could be tough, will take practice.
Its one of those glitchy tracks, where your bike will get stuck randomly at times.
Follow my run as much as you can, or you wont make it.
I used the Viper but the Roach is also a valid option.
You really have to learn this driving line, so practice, practice, practice and copy my run best you can.
Sleepy Creek
The track itself is not super hard but the RedLynx time gives not much room for error.
This is one of the harder ones in my opinion. Use the Viper. Learn that driving line.
If you watch my run you can tell its not that smooth and as a result i only barely made it. The ending can really mess you up, practice it so that it wont kill a good run.
Sticking to the driving line like i did in the video, is an absolute must.
You are not going to beat the RedLynx time here by taking a different route.
Frontside Ollie
This is a viper track but you are required to use the Roach for this one.
This track has an odd driving line.
The RedLynx time is very easy however.
As you can see my run was far from perfect and i still came in with 6 seconds to spare.
Honestly, if you can't beat this one, you have no shot at this achievement.
Short Circuit
This will be a hard track for most players. It is technical.
Pit viper is your only choice here. The RedLynx time gives you some room to play with so a steady zero fault run is what you are looking for here. Keep playing this track until you can consistently zero fault it. Then, try to slowly improve your time. Always finish your run, even when you faulted. Practice is key for this track!
Extraterrestrial
It is classified as an extreme track but it isn't any harder
than some of the hard difficulty tracks from the base game.
That being said, it still is a difficult track. You are also required to use the Rabbit. This could make it even harder, unless you are someone who prefers that bike.
Thankfully the RedLynx time to beat is pretty slow, and you can fault as many times as you want, as long as you beat the time. Dont worry if you can't get this right away. Just keep practising and practising and you are guaranteed to get better at the track.
There is 1 person on the pc however who uses the keyboard, i kid you not.
I wasn't around during the Trials HD years, but back then everybody played with the dpad. But in Evo & Fusion the sticks are prefered by 99% of the players.
It has come to my attention that this guide has been getting negative votes. I would like to know why. I'll revise my guides on this achievement but the vast majority of the reasons why I wrote this remain the same.
This achievement is immensely difficult and will very likely be beyond the reach of casual gamers and those who are unable to complete the extreme tracks until they improve at the game.
For those who decide to go for this, be warned, this is extremely skill-intensive and due to its difficulty, this will likely be the last achievement you'll unlock in the entire game.
NOTE: This achievement cannot be unlocked by 'cheesing' it aka using the 'glitch' method which was done to unlock the "Is There Anything You Can't Do?" achievement on the base game. These challenges have to be completed legitly, as in all ten Redlynx times must be filled in with white, indicating the challenge done. I attempted to delete the game save (while saving the data elsewhere in case it didn't work) and redid the easier challenges and it didn't count. As a result, I've come to the conclusion that this achievement must be done for real.
The achievement is unlocked by beating the Redlynx times on the ten tracks they're on. Be warned though that some of these times are faster than even the tracks' platinum medals. Also some of these require a certain kind of bike such as the Roach on "Frontside Ollie" or the Rabbit on "Neo Bradford". These can make these respective tracks harder with these required bikes depending on your skill and bike preference.
There is one thing I might add which may help in beating a lot of these times is this: AIRTIME IS YOUR ENEMY! I'm serious, it looks cool and badass watching your rider flip and do tricks in the air but when it comes to beating the respective Redlynx times, when you go off a vertical ramp, and fly upwards, you waste precious seconds waiting for the bike to land and you are going nowhere while you're in the air. The goal is to go as fast as possible but be careful how fast you go off the ramp so your bike is firmly on the ground as fast as possible so you move forward. Airtime interferes with speed here. I don't know how to explain it but if you find it hard to immediate get what I'm saying, feel free to look at some of the world record times on the respective tracks and see why airtime is your enemy here.
I also might add that if you're truly determined to beat these but are struggling really badly, go to the leaderboards and to the 'overall' list and find a player whose ghost is either exactly the Redlynx par time or just below by maybe a few thousands of a second. From there, watch her/his replay and then race against that ghost and learn how to keep up by knowing the right driving line. This helped me with "Elysium Skies", "Seismic Activity" and the infamous "Sleepy Creek".
Here are my difficulty ratings for each of the ten tracks. Be warned, I'm judging them by Redlynx standards, not by regular game standards. The easier ones are still harder than getting a gold or better on the vast majority of the base games harder tracks. The easier ones can be completed by most medium-to-hard-skilled riders but the harder ones will require a great deal of skill, determination, patience, and even long time-outs in order to recover from bouts of frustration.
Elysium Skies: 9/10 I rate this a 9 as the track is quite long and it requires a near-perfect run and theres very little room for mistakes such as a missed ramp or going too slow. Definately one of the harder Redlynx times to get. This track's time is very hard to beat but practice makes perfect. The last timesaver will require a lot of practice as going off the launchpad onto the platform will require landing right in order to get over onto the last timesaver ramp and make it in time. The Pit Viper is recommended due to it's maneuverability but the Roach is fine as well due to it's speed and power but it's weight limits maneuverability. It's your call. Make sure you nail down the timesavers and don't let your backwheel hit the edge of a platform. If all else fails, just go the the leaderboards, find a ghost whose time is exactly at or just under 47.433 seconds and race against it. You will learn the right driving line. It helped me beat this infamous track.
Fish and Ships: 7/10. This track's Redlynx time must be beaten by using the Roach. Now I love using the roach on a lot of the medium and even hard tracks but this bike, as much as I love using it, is heavy and not versatile which IMO makes it much harder to do bunny hops or tricky maneuvers. Limit your airtime as much as possible and this should be within reach, even for riders who aren't experts.
Neo Bradford: 6/10. One of the easier Redlynx times to beat, this still requires quite a bit of skill to beat. This track requires you to beat the Redlynx time using the Rabbit. The Rabbit at first may seem very difficult to use but once you get the hang of it, it's actually an incredibly versatile bike. I used it to beat Extreme tracks that I previously couldn't even with the Pit Viper. This requires a good driving line and landing right and bunny hopping over the gap over the river and onto a container. From there, limit your airtime and when doing a 360 backflip in the middle of the track, make sure you get grip as fast as possible and limit airtime and this should be within reach for most.
Seismic Activity: 9/10. This is one of the most infamous tracks as it requires a perfect run and precision. Any mistakes such as a missed ramp, or inadequate speed means it's over and you'll have to start over. Expect hundreds or even thousands of attempts at this time. You have to get every landing right and DO NOT deviate from the driving line. If you must, you can use your personal ghost and try to stay ahead of it as much as possible. This is very difficult but it's just a matter of perfecting the timesaver ramps and limiting airtime when going up and over the end of uphill ramps. Roach or viper work fine. I personally used the Roach to get this as it’s weight made it easier for me to limit the airtime when going off a ramp. This is seconds faster than even the platinum time.
Trial of Ice and Fire: 6/10. Moderately difficult as you have to use the Baggie, which handles similar to the Roach but is generally slower and it makes it harder to do bunny hops. One thing to do is to land early when going down onto the wooden doorways. Be very careful not to get too much airtime as you'll waste precious seconds just waiting to land back down.
Adelopodia 9: 8/10. Definately a very difficult track as it is very hard to get to the first incline on the skeletal spine early in the track. You also must be careful when landing on what looks like a giant plant/animal-clawlike formation as either going too fast will cause you to be in the air too long, or too slow and the thing will throw you backwards or swallow you. Also at the end, DO NOT go downwards but go over the gap onto the platform and into the doorway at the end.
Sleepy Creek: 11/10. "11/10" is no typo. This is hands down the hardest of all the Redlynx times to beat as the track's time leaves almost no room for error. I found this much harder than even "Elysium Skies" or "Seismic Activity". The first timesaver involves going through the hanging pipe and coming out the other end of that hanging pipe onto a ramp. From there, land so you can thrust forward off the top of the horizontal pipe to shoot forward and make the timesaver ramp. From there, go through the hole on the bottom of the billboard, being careful not to smack you head and then go up the log and make the timesaver ramp. There's also a secret platform but it is very, very difficult to make it onto. From there, be careful not to carry your speed too much and then go off the end of the log and do a front flip to gain extra speed to land on a ramp in order to skip and entire section. From there, just complete the track but be careful not to get hit by the two giant buzzsaws at the end of the track. Mind you, these timesavers are unbelievably difficult to nail down. I put hundreds, if not thousands of attempts just trying to get the hanging pipe maneuver down well enough to get a good timesaving run. Even then, getting these timesavers will not always guarantee you making the time but if you can, you'll barely make it. If all else fails, go to the leaderboards, and then using the overall list, pick a ghost whose time is exactly the Redlynx time or just a few thousands of a second under the Redlynx time and race against it. Make sure you finish ahead of it. I got 44.814 against a ghost who posted a time of exactly 44.816 seconds! This took me weeks of multiple rage-quits and coming back. If you can beat this and "Seismic Activity", this achievement will be well within reach.
Frontside Ollie: 3/10 After enduring the nightmare of "Sleepy Creek", the next track is "Frontside Ollie" and it requires the Roach. Now in stark contrast to the previous track, the required time is very, very generous and by Redlynx standards, this is hands down the easiest of all the Redlynx times to beat and you have a lot more room for error so even if you make a mistake or two, you can beat this. The Roach, while powerful, is very heavy and not versatile which could make it slightly harder. As a previous gamer guide mentioned earlier, if you can't beat Frontside Ollie, you have no shot at this achievement until you improve at the game.
Short Circuit: 8/10 This is short but difficult track and the Pit Viper is highly recommended. Any bike is allowed but I don't think this can be beaten using any other bike. A lot of steep inclines and knowing the right about of throttle is key to beating this one. You also must be careful with throttle so you can maintain grip on steep ramps and also being careful not to land wrong. The steep inclines in the latter part of the track will take practice to get down hench why I recommend the Pit Viper.
Extraterrestrial: 7/10. YOU HAVE to use the RABBIT in order to beat this one. This track you can fault on without risking your attempt but this track, considered 'Extreme' is pretty difficult to complete at all. The hardest parts are early on where you try to avoid hitting the explosive orange blobs and getting through the 'fence gap' towards the end. Getting past the explosive orange pods in the middle of the track will cause some aggravation and will require a great deal of attempts to master or successfully maneuver through. In all honesty, if you haven't made it past the first, and second set of explosive orange pods, or made to the 'kart' or 'dumpster' as Maka91 called it by 28 seconds, you're better off just restarting the entire track. Practice makes perfect and if you can cut down the faults to fewer than 7 and/or even manage a run without faults, this should be within reach.
"Redlynx To The Sword" is a very, very skill-intensive achievement that will be beyond the capabilities of casual gamers. This is for those who seek highly skill-intensive achievements. The TA ratio underestimates how difficult this is. I found this to be hands down the hardest achievement in the entire game, base and/or DLC alike. It took me nearly a month of multiple bouts of frustration and coming back to finally unlock it. If you unlock this achievment, you've earned bragging rights.
Once again, as I said earlier, you HAVE to do this LEGIT! You cannot 'glitch' this achievement the way you could with "Is There Anything You Can't Do?". Good luck and be ready to practice practice PRACTICE!
Warning: This achievement requires quite a bit of skill.
