"Version" is just the way this game says "level". Basically, you need to complete missions and kill enemies for levelling up. It can be done in both campaign and multiplayer.
WARNING: remember to gain at least one level in multiplayer for the achievement
The Gain a Version in the Game Grid achievement in Tron: Evolution worth 8 pointsGained a Version (Level) in the Game Grid
before reaching level 50, or you might have to erase your progress.
The best way to farm experience is to kill enemies in the start of level 6, during the light tank part, in casual. You should be able to clear this part very fast in casual, and the xp amount is the same. You can do this part over and over again by exiting to the menu and restarting the chapter. Just be careful for not messing any difficulty achievements if you are playing for them, because changing difficulty will disable them and force you to restart the story.
Also, if you are getting the other achievements before farming, you should get pretty close to level 40 after finishing the game twice and getting the multiplayer ones. I was already level 37 by them.
