How to unlock the What a ride! achievement in Tron: Evolution - Definitive Guide

This one is a real pain if you can't find any online games using the large "outdoor" maps. The reason it's a pain is because the bots won't spawn on these maps. However if you're lucky enough to find a game on Defrag and Circuit Board hit RB to get on your bike and start throwing your disc around, run over people on foot or try to trick other bikers into crashing with the "trail" that you leave behind. Any kill you do while on the bike counts and you can confirm it by keeping and eye on the message that pops up on the bottom of the screen when you get a kill. Something like "Evilshadow23 *bike picture* n00b85"

Now for the rather annoying way to get this in single player if you don't have XBL or if you can't find an online game is to start up chapter 4 where you will be thrown right on the bike ready to go. The first biker will come as soon as you ride up the first hill. Nail him with your disc. There will be a second biker right after the first checkpoint dropping down from above. It's safest to get on his left side so his "trail" isn’t blocking you from getting on the ramp. After getting him jump of the ramp as this gives you a checkpoint. This is where the fun starts because what you have to do now is hit start and exit the game, restart the chapter and do the same thing 49 more times. I can recommend installing the game to the Xbox to speed up load time and some classic episodes of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to pass the time.

Hot tips from BobWings: To check your Light Cycle Derezz kills go to the main menu, select extras, Data Logs, then scroll down to Light Cycle Derezz.

Unfortunately I didn't have any Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to watch :( but doing the single player chapter 4 worked perfectly. Thank you!

I just tried the level 4 method, plus another 10 times afterwards just to make sure, but no luck. Doesn't seem to be counting my kills even after the checkpoint. :/

That's odd. I did it the level 4 method for about 80 kills. Make sure you get the bike with your disc. A lot of the bike enemies will die eventually from hitting a wall or whatever. Also make sure you pass through a checkpoint after the kill and preferably drive till the text disappears from the corner of the screen just in case.

I can 100% confirm, that this method works. I farmed my 100 kills during replaying chapter 4. When you drive at full speed all the time, you get 2 kills in about 1 Minute.

Ugh, I was so fuckin' bummed when I started up a private match on the vehicle maps and no bots spawned.

For reference, I found each run of the beginning of chapter 4 to take 55 seconds, including all loading time etc. This was with the digital version of the game so presumably an installed disc copy would have a similar time. Thusly, multiply 28 seconds by the number of light cycle kills you need.

For me, I played the campaign thrice and had 8 (fucking eight) light cycle kills. 28 seconds per kill times 92 remaining kills equals 43 fucking minutes of grinding? Jesus tapdancing Christ this achievement can go fuck itself.

Replaying Chapter 4 over and over works fine. I quite out after reaching the checkpoint before entering the tunnel. If I would quit before it my cycle kills would not count.

Why didn't they have 20 or at tops 50? Worst achievement in the game...

Start up a public match on heatsink 100 kills 10 players and invite any recently played players. I got 15 kills in 20 minutes but if lots of players join you can easily get this much quicker. This is a lot more fun than grinding against robotics and many people are still playing this as of October 2016.

Chapter 4 one works great but you can get three kills if you play for a few seconds more

after the tunnel go over the jump a Recognizer (flying thing) will come down making you go left as soon as you go past it swing back right on to the road this takes you to the jump with the car sitting on the right this shortcut means you will be in front of the other two bikes in the level you can take one out with your disc or your light trail the other one stops after you do this hit next check point and quit reload chapter.

Not saying it will save a lot of time but saves seeing the reload screens

Also if you crash before the jump or after you take the biker out you end up being behide the bikes meaning you cant take one out.

Since this game became Backwards Compatible and GwG, you can grind this and the other multiplayer achievements solo, so long as you have an Xbox One, an Xbox 360 and an alt account (which can be a Silver account).

NB: For this to work, you'll need to have your Gold account set the Xbox One that you'll be using to it's home Xbox in order for Gold sharing to be available on there to your secondary Silver account.

(Note: If you didn't pick this up during GwG, you can still use this solution, though you'll either need a purchased digital license for the game, or two physical copies).

Have your secondary account launch the game on your Xbox One. It will be able to join multiplayer via your Gold sharing main account. Log into your primary account on your Xbox 360 and launch the game.

Set up for a private match, and invite your secondary account to the game. My settings were;

* Match type: Private Match
* Game mode: Disintegration
* Maps: Defrag
* Max players: 2
* Time limit: 20 minutes
* Score limit: 100 points

When you spawn into the game with your main account, press cn_RB and hop onto your light cycle -- then find and kill/run over your secondary account. You'll find that you'll probably need to move your secondary account off a ledge to make getting the kill easier.

After the first kill, the secondary account should respawn at one end of the map, on one of the raised platforms next to the ramps.

Have your secondary account run off that platform to the main play-area whilst your primary account slowly glides towards that end of the map.

Once the secondary account is on the floor, run them over with your main account, then turn around and start heading to the other end of the map -- which is where the secondary account should respawn.

Again, run the secondary account off the platform they're on to the main play-area, and run them over with your main account.

Repeat this process until you get the achievement. When you get into the flow of it, you should be able to get ~50 kills within the 20 minute window. At most, this will take two runs to complete, though you shouldn't require a full 100 kills, as you may already have some from playing through the story.

Negative voter care to comment as to why the negative vote so that I may edit/improve?

I tried it with a silver account but it wouldn't let me connect. I'm not the one that voted negative though. Still a good solution if you have 2 accounts with gold.

I voted positively! Those old 360 can be very useful with some backward compatibility games!

But for this achievement I'll try the other solution since my two consoles are on two different floors of the house. :)

The only reason this could be is that you need to have the Xbox One you are using set as your primary Gold account's home Xbox, otherwise the Gold Sharing features won't be available to your Silver account on that Xbox One. I'll update the solution with that info.

I don't think the negative voter is coming back to address their negative vote... wink

Hey Christian, thanks for the positive vote!

Depending on your setup, you could always use in-home streaming of your Xbox One to a PC, should there be a PC or laptop closer to your Xbox 360. compute

It was in part the method I used, since both consoles are hooked up to the same TV, so it saved me having to switch constantly.

If you're going to boost this, I recommend doing Defrag. Your spawn spot rotates between the opposite sides of the map. By the time you turn your bike around to get to the other side, the spawn protection has worn off from the guy doing the dying. We tried to do Heatsink, but the spawn points on that map are random and it takes longer to figure out where you need to go.

Streamkid and I did this in about an hour and both of us, starting almost from scratch, got it.

First create a match for 20 minutes and 100 kills. You should get 70ish kills here. Next set a match for about seven minutes and 50 kills (only option is either 20 or 50 kills), and you should get the achievement with about a minute left in the match. If you're only concerned about the achievement, you can quit the match, but you'll lose all xp and your data log won't be updated to show your 100 kills.

Once you get your achievement, rinse and repeat for the other guy.

As mentioned in the Road Map, this is highly recommended to do in Multiplayer with a friend in a Private Match, rather than in Story Mode. In Story Mode, you will have very few opportunities to get kills/derezzes on a light cycle. To activate the light cycle in Multiplayer, double-tap to get on the bike and press to get off it. While on the light cycle, you can derezz/kill enemies in several ways including using , run over them, or cut them off with your light beam that comes out of the back of your light cycle when going fast enough by using . To set this up in a Private Match in online Multiplayer, I suggest using these settings:

Match Type: Private Match
Game Mode: Disintegration
Maps: Defrag
Max Player: 2 Players
Time Limit: 20 Minutes
Score Limit: 100 Points

Here Are Some Tips If You Use The Method Described Above:

  • DO NOT QUIT IN THE MIDDLE OF A MATCH. It may not save your points/kills/XP by doing this.
  • If you can boost this with 3 people or more, you will get it done much quicker (typically one match in less than 20 minutes).
  • The light cycle cannot be used on the maps Heat Sink & Hard Disk
  • The best method I've found for racking up derezzes quickly on the light cycle is for one player to sit in the middle bottom area of Defrag doing donuts constantly (by holding and cranking the all the way right or left). Meanwhile, the other player will spawn a distance away, but seems to usually have a straight shot to just hold and aim for the circle of light beam death that the other player is creating. If you miss the other player's beam, try jumping off the bike with and just running into the beam on foot to kill yourself.

If you cannot find a boosting partner or do not want to boost, you can do this in Story Mode just as easily. Simply set the difficulty to Casual and replay the beginning of Chapter 4 over and over again. Just be sure to kill any enemies you see with , as you will only see 3-4 enemies during each replay. After it saves when you get to the Game Grid, press , then Quit, go back to Chapter Select at the main menu, and replay Chapter 4 again. This will take about an hour to get the trophy this way.

This one will probably be one of the last achievements you get, and there are two methods for getting it:

I did it by concentrating on getting kills while on the bike during multiplayer games. You can only do this on the maps that allow vehicles. Note that you can either use your disc, let/make people run into your "light trail", or run right over someone on foot. This method depends solely on player skill and make take some people longer than others.

Alternatively, you can use this method in the single player campaign:

First you need to have played the game and at least reached Chapter 4: The Combatant. Difficulty does not matter. Now from the main menu choose "Chapter Select" and then pick chapter 4. Say "Yes" to the question that pops up and you will start on a light cycle.

You want to be able to do this as fast as possible so hold down the whole time. It may take a couple of tries to be able to complete this at top speed but it isnt impossible and you really want to be going fast when an enemy is around. You don't want him to crash into something and rob you of the opportunity to kill him yourself.

From the beginning stay in the middle of the road. An enemy light cycle will approach from the left so gain on him a little bit and press to toss your disk and kill him from a distance. A little bit further a Recognizer will float by and try to bomb you but as long as it isnt a direct hit you'll be fine.

A second Recognizer will land on the left, so take the right path and a third Recognizer will bomb the path again. Just avoid the blast and continue on. If you are going fast enough these will actually land behind you anyway.

Now a second enemy light cycle will drop in front of you. As soon as you see the little blue target arrow above his head press to kill him too. You will be moving pretty quick at this point so if you accidentally drive past him, just cut him off and he will crash into your light wall and the kill will still count.

A blast in front of you will knock over some debris and force you to the left. Ride the ramp up a little ways and then cut back to the right to the clear road below and you will see "checkpoint reached" appear right before entering a tunnel.

At the tunnel entrance pause the game, press up on the once and select "Quit". Answer "Yes" to the question that pops up and you will be back at the main menu to do it all again. Repeat 49 more times. The achievement unlocks as soon as you hit 100. You can check your total kills by selecting "Extras", then "Date Log" and then scroll down to light cycle derezz.

In a single-player game, there are very few places where you can crush enemies from a motorcycle. You can play online in a network game, kills also count there. I suggest another way. We load level 4, at the beginning of the level you are riding a motorcycle, one enemy immediately appears, we kill him , after a short time another one appears, we deal with it in the same way. We reach the checkpoint, exit to the menu and enter again. And so on until there are 100 kills.
