How to unlock the The Rumors of my Death... achievement in Tropico 4 - Definitive Guide
EDIT: It's been quite awhile since I got this achievement and it looks like I might have gotten lucky. Please read comments because this achievement seems kind of glitchy.
Before you start this, make sure you have an Academy of Science and it's been around long enough to finish your clone.
The way I got this achievement is during the same time as I was trying to get the "It's a Trap!" achievement, which requires you to blow up 5 rebels with the mausoleum upgrade. The reason for this is because the best way to get that achievement is to have an absurd amount of rebels and a very low number amount of soldiers. In my instance, I had 42 rebels and 2 soldiers. To get this I made a save during the campaign, and then destroyed everything that wasn't industrious (homes, entertainment, churches, hospitals, etc) and lowered all wages to $1.
The whole reason I mention this is because your avatar does engage in fights at times. Your clone will jump in on a rebellion. But with 40 vs 2, he will very likely die. Achievement pop. However, others have tried this and the clone ran away before it could die.
This is how I got mine and I wasn't even trying for this one. So if you still need "It's a Trap", use this strategy and get both!
It's recently been suggested that your clone has to actually kill the assassin, not the other way around. However, I know for a fact in my game, my clone died. I don't remember if he killed the assassin in the process or not though.
Please either comment below or send me a Personal Message if you have any comments or improvements.

Many people are having trouble with this achievement and I think it is glitchy. I just observed my clone being killed by rebels during an attack and the achievement did not pop. Must be that it glitched previously

How do you even get a clone?

I had a really hard time to unlock this achievement, but now i want to share my experience with you guys. You need 2 things: the secret police and the acedemy of science. Let me explain why you need these buildings:
The acedemy of science create a clone and you have to use your doppelganger in the assassinition event + your doppelganger must kill the asssassin. You can simply save at the event screen and reload if your clone get killed instead. I had a 25% chance of success... so i had to reload a couple of times.
The secret police let some "secret police events" appear and you are looking for the assassinination event. These events (bomb, strike, assassination) are random and if you save _before_ one of these events appear, you can reload until you have the right one.
Now comes the most important part: How can you trigger these events? I bad relation with other countries are the easiest way. The UdSSR send me a killer with a 35% relation. Rebels are not THAT important, because i had a overall happiness of 43%. You can use the praise USA edict to lower the UdSSR relation.
You should try to unlock this during any of your campaign playthroughs, because you can do this on any map/mission. I replayed mission number 17 and my event appeared December 1975. Maybe the date is random aswell, but it can't hurt to save before this date.
However: feel free to comment and ask if you still a have question! =)
Good luck!

I obtained this on the campaign mission "Bickering Factions." Assassination attempts don't appear to occur in sandbox games. I can't say exactly what needs to be done for the achievement to unlock because I obtained it by having my lookalike (clone) kill the assassin and not the other way around. I had the academy of science and the secret police. After completing the mission, I kept playing and random events occurred about every three years. Most of the random events were bomb threats, but after a while, the assassination event occurred. I had a 100% chance of my lookalike killing the assassin and immediately got the achievement after selecting the option to have my clone kill the assassin.

Assassination attempts do occur in sandbox games though.

Two knowns ways to achieve:
- Have a secret police, whenever it discovers an assassin, choose to send a clone after him. There is a certain chance that the assassin will shoot your clone. If it happens, the achievement is yours.
- Have an academy of science. Should any assassin try to shoot El presidente, he will kill a clone instead.
