How to unlock the Retro-futurism achievement in Tropico 5 - Penultimate Edition - Definitive Guide
This is best combined with the achievement below which can be obtained in the same game as it has similar requirements set to be achieved in the era after.
Start a sandbox game on any island with the following settings:
Starting Era - Colonial Era
Starting Money - Unlimited
Economic Difficulty - Very Low
Political Difficulty - Very Low
Disasters - None
Firstly you need to start off by building approx 20-25 Libraries in a strip and import foreign workers for each of them. Press (+) to bring up your 'Research' tab and tick as many of the technologies as possible. Do not speed up the time at this point as we will still need to get your happiness to 51+ in order to proceed to the next era. This can be achieved by building more houses, ranches, plantations etc.
I would strongly advise you build all Military technologies as soon as possible as you will have rebels attack during this process and you will want to ensure that you have plenty of Army Bases, Barracks and Forts to kill them off.
Once all of the above has been set up and your happiness is on the rise you can fast forward time until you have the ability to build a Nuclear Power Plant and the Nuclear Program. You will need to build these in order to proceed to the Modern Era thus netting you the achievement.
Continue on learning the remaining 9 technologies if you require the additional achievement stated at the beginning of this solution

Wonder if that was meant to say 1990? I've had it unlock in both versions in 1989 oddly enough.
