How to unlock the Dreamcatcher achievement in Tumblestone - Definitive Guide

Here is a video of me getting the achievement, the winning run starts at 3:25:

The Dreamcatcher achievement. There is no easy way to get this achievement. I will provide you with everything I know and I wish you luck on this achievement.

If you are interested in it, be prepared to spend hours trying to get it! I personally spent about 15 hours. My scores improved from 35 on the first day, to 44, then 47, 49 (four times in a few hours) and finally topped it off with a 50.

First of all, to get this achievement you need to play the battle mode by going to Multiplayer and then choosing Private Match or Local Match. It doesn't matter which as long as you set it so nobody else can join. You need to make sure that the bots are on "Nightmare" difficulty, and that you are playing in the Battle gamemode.

These are the settings I used for the achievement, and the reasoning behind it:

Not round based (Triplets first to 50) -- I don't believe I can survive long enough versus 3 bots, in a first to 3. If my board gets wiped I still have a chance to go for the win.
Use Same Boards -- My logic for this is that the bots will do very similar in performance, and while yes it could be an easy board you still have the opportunity to do better than them. I dislike not using the same boards because not only do you need to have a good board, you also have to bank on the fact that all the bots have a bad board. Very small chance of that happening. Then, on top of that, you still need to do it mistake-free...
Rubberbanding -- I still don't think that I could ever be faster than the bots 100% of the time. I'm pretty good at the opening puzzle and can be faster than them there, but the second or third one gets me all the time. That is why, when the bots are in the lead, they will spend an extra few seconds being wiped, while I hardly will ever get the lead, so the rubberbanding will not affect me.
Handicap set to 3 -- BUT, I don't think this made a difference, I was hoping it would handicap the AIs though :P. I think this is broken with all these settings on, because in other cases you get green blocks right away. If you noticed, I didn't get any. Maybe just the red/yellow/blue blocks were just placed harder?

In the video you will notice that the winning run starts at 3:25, the runs before show you the failed attempts leading up to to getting the achievement. These are important because you need to know when to giveup a run so you don't waste your time. At the time of this writing I'm #1 on the TrueAchievements leaderboard for games played and I believe that me returning to the lobby many many times contributed to this. You need to make sure you get at least 15 on your first wipe, and 30 on your second wipe, or else you will have a much bigger mountain to climb than usual.

What you need for this achievement: Lots of practice, and very much fortune, and perseverance! No, seriously. It doesn't matter how perfect your run is, the bot can still beat you. I had it happen the other day, where the bot didn't wipe at all but got 50. You just need the right circumstances to fall into place. You need to believe in yourself! If you think you can do it, you will play better!

What you don't need for this achievement: A perfect run. If you noticed, I made two mistakes on my winning run. You do need to be able to recover from those mistakes pretty quickly though.

Now for the tips:
1. First of all, you need to mash the A button, furiously but with care! If you don't go fast here, then you have no hope of getting the achievement. There were like two hours where I became lethargic and slowed down (but still made the right decisions) and I was nowhere near 50.

2. There is a bit of an exploit that I used that goes with the above tip. If you mash the A button on a group of 3, you get the color pretty quickly. But if you press the A button over a color block that is not a legal move for the first time, it won't take that block. So I was ready to spam the A button and I even pressed it on blocks that I had no intention of picking up just so I can "keep the rhythm going"

3. Also going with the top two, you need to mash the A button even before the puzzle begins. You need to do this the second wipe, and the third wipe. YOU NEED TO BE READY TO GO! If you don't the board will go down so fast after the wipes and you won't even be able to get 5 triplets. If you've beaten Tetris Splash before, this game mode is very similar to how it is played.

4. Another exploit I know, which I think I used on the winning run, is: You are actually allowed to mess up twice before the board moves down for a non-legal move! This means, if you make a group of two, accidentally grab another color, you can then grab a third color or go back to the first color and it will only count as one mistake! It could be very useful to remove blocks.

5. When in doubt, spam out! If I know I'm about to lose or I am out of moves, I spam the A button on a column that has a lot of the same blocks. This gives me an extra one or two triplets which can help in the long run. I do this pretty often on my third puzzle as well to hope it gets me to 50.

6. Instead of looking for groups of 3's. You need to learn to identify 6's and 9's. You need to be ready to grab them all at once. You are pretty much counting in your head while you play and look for more moves. The game has a built in counter that gives you a check mark whenever you match a group of three, and provides a number for how many triplets you scored...but I didn't use those. I didn't want my eyes fixed on that area, only on the blocks themselves.

7. Probably not that much of a tip but it helped me...mute the audio! It gets annoying after awhile, and can startle you at the worst times! Silence helped me stay focused.

8. When your board gets wiped for the first time, take a quick glance at everyone's scores and how their boards are. If there is a bot at ~25 or so and hasn't wiped yet, you might as well restart.

9. The better that you do, the worse the bots do. You'll notice that if all the bots wipe at the same time, the board stops moving. The same thing happens the other way around. By continuing to get triplets the bot's boards will wipe faster.

10. The third puzzle (second wipe) is the most important one! You don't have to be in the lead at all as long as you win at the end. Be prepared to go full speed on that. I think it might even help to not be as fast on the first two, so that rubberbanding comes into play.

I may add some more tips later. Good Luck to you all.

If you have any questions or need me to be clearer please let me know!

What a pro. Enjoyed watching your video, thanks for uploading. I see that you have to move unbelievably quick. I will leave this as my last achievement in the game but good to see it's possible.

One for the trophy case?

No offense, but I have runs where I go much faster than you did in your winning run, and yet I still can't get any more than 44. I even once wiped first time at 24, and still got destroyed. Is it just luck?

I just got the achievement, i don't have much to add, Brainstormed said it all.
Just a thing, it's probably obvious for 99% of the people who played this game, but play with the D-pad instead of the stick.

Also the difference with my run and the OP's run is i suffered only one wipe.
I recorded it if someone is curious : playing
Note that i turned off all sounds effects and musics in the game in case you are wondering why there is no sound.

I just hope that the devs are not going to patch it after saying how " doable " this achievement is on reddit.

Mmm i just edited my previous post, as i would rather have my game clip link on trueachievements instead of my xbox page, sorry that i messed up this section comment.

platinumpwzor : Yeah i won't deny that i got extremely lucky with the layout and the bots.
About roud based, i have to say, even if i didn't try that much, i was not even close to beat a single round, i guess that's up to everyone's preference but i would still recommend "triplets first to 50".

Thanks for the advice. Now regularly hitting 40(ish) so hopefully my time is coming.

Incidentally I also had a go on round-based and won 2 of 3 in my first game after practicing so I would say that it is also possible (but obviously the longer and harder route)

I knew I could do it after day 2 Riyte, so I had to go for it and keep trying. :)
As I mentioned in the forums, if you are able to win two rounds without rubberbanding, or before the bots win any then that works. The problem is rubberbanding will hold the bots back if they have more wins than you. If you won the first two rounds then that is impressive and you may find better luck there for the achievement

If you can win rounds, I say go for it. You should probably have the achievement already. I can semi-routinely hit 40+ on triplets and have gotten as high as 46, but I've never won a single round on round-based. It doesn't matter how fast I go there, because the bots never seem to be pushed down at all, much less fail before me.

I don't think rubberbanding has any influence on round-based. It only increases the restart timer the further ahead you are, as far as I can tell, and there's no restart on round-based.

I've switch to round-based. Just had one where I won 2 of the first 3 rounds... it was then 2-2-2-2... I came 2nd in the decided, lost by 1 single row. I even caputed it so i could see how close I was D:

I'm currently playing round-based, with rubber banding on and same boards off

I got 46 twice with same boards off, not round based. My best before was only 44. I think my new strat is to go with different boards and hope for the best.

Dang. Add me to the list of people that won 2 rounds and came oh-so-close on a 2-2-2-2 round. After that, it seemed to get harder again. It's like this game's way of mocking your efforts or something... Not missing any combos and hoping the bots do poorly seems to be the key to winning rounds.

Tms45, your video is incredibly impressive. Both you and Brainstormed appear to move at a constant pace without pausing at all. How are you planning your next move? Is there a pattern you are using to quickly jump to a color? I don't understand how you both are able to react so quickly without pausing at all in your movement.

Well, i'll try to explain myself and my experience as clear as possible with my poor english.

Like Brainstormed mentioned, you need to identify groups of 6's and 9's, absolutely all the time i have already my next group of 3's in mind, if i have to let one block alone because i couldn't find 2 others blocks of the same color, i know it's right there and i try to make the next combos available as fast as possible to come back to this color before i get crushed.

In my opinion almost everyone can identify groups quickly enough to gain this achievement after some practice, BUT you really have to move quickly on the board, this is one of the hardest aspect, you really need to move almost as fast as your mind read the board, that lead to my next point : focusing.

It's probably the hardest thing to manage, because no matter what, in an hour, you might have only a couple runs where this achievement is even possible. When that happens you need to be at 200 % from the first to the last second. I let myself a lot of time going pretty easy at the beginning before the board is low. Same after the first wipe, it's easy to lose the momentum and lose immediately.
I got countless runs where i got crushed just after a few moves right after the first wipe.

In my winning run, i don't want to sound cocky but it was honestly unbelievable how focus i was to think and make moves. This is why, if after some hours it's getting worse and worse, you might want to stop and try later or the next day.

But no matter how good you are, you still need an absurd amount of luck AND be on fire where you have a chance to beat the bots.
Brainstormed nailed it with this sentence " all the stars have to align "

In the end, keep faith and keep practicing, even though this achievement is complete bullshit, i can tell you that i improved my skill and my best score every day, from 46, 47, 48 to 50, therefore the luck percentage required get smaller the more you play.

Really impressive run Tms45. I don't know how the bots did so poorly at the start with such a favorable layout. Whenever I have a fluid and fast run like this, the bots hit 100% and still crush me at around 20-25... and then they keep going to 40+ or 50 without failing. It's hard to keep that intensity when you know you will get BS'ed with almost certainty. I feel like I'm wasting my time after about 2 hours.

Meanwhile, I lost another round-based with 2 wins. I think rounds are more luck based and don't necessarily require you to out-combo the bots. I feel like maybe I'll get it on round based first. I haven't been able to get over the 45-46 hump on triplets. Got 45 about 4-5 times today.

Great job, the Sea Queen bot was actually 9 ahead of you near the end! (44-35)

It seems pretty critical that all bots reset at least twice. You're lucky to hit the 40s if one or more of them only resets one time. I got a 47 yesterday, but I'm clearly struggling to improve...

Not giving up even if I hit 10,000 games played.

Just got the achievement - literally jumped off my couch with excitement. Had a really good run on board 1 and made it to 36 triplets, then won with only 1 reset.

I was also experimenting - I think the key to using rubberbanding to your advantage is to let the bots be winning by a bit up until about 30 triplets, then start to go hard. They'll get longer reset times. Otherwise, sometimes they only get about a second.

Holy hell! I also jumped out of my chair in surprise after getting the achievement. After embarrassingly finding myself atop the games played leaderboard with still no achievement, I took a 3 week break. I can say the break was well worth it! I improved from 47 to 48 immediately, and had my miracle run after a couple of days! Went straight from 48 to 50 with a 100%, 1 reset run. The bots had surprisingly high accuracy too!

I feel like the update to this game made this achievement easier. Because I was casually hitting 46 even though I felt like they were terrible runs. Usually I always hit 40's on my bad runs. I hit 50 on one reset.

Just got this, and I also want to point out that it is technically possible to do this with just one wipe. I once got to 48 before I had my second wipe, but you'll have to get reeaaally good at the game to achieve that. In the end, on my final run, i actually beat them 50-46-46-46, had a crazy strong finish. Keep going people, it's all about perseverance!

Also want to point out that getting too far in the first /second run often ends up hurting you due to the rubberbanding. If I find myself the sole survivor of the first wipe, I might as well restart (unless I go for a solo-wipe run.)

Solid guide though, thanks a lot man!

I ended my run with 50-49-48-49, it was a really close game, but this was awhile back. Don't want to go back to this game anymore, and it was a horribly boring time I had in this game. Good thing I'm done playing the game with a 100% completion.

I found that pausing the game will let you still see the board for a split second and then when you unpause you can act a bit quicker than you normally would be able to. This was the difference for me between another 49 run and the 50 smile

After finally getting this achievement I’ll add my two cents. I tried this mode and could get into the 40’s pretty consistently, however my best was 2x 48 runs. After getting frustrated with this I switched to round based and got it on my first try. Myself and all the bots had two points each but I managed to scrape the win with a line to spare! Great job. Amazing that all the bots hit 49 as well.

I've been using 100% the same strategy, but I'm stuck at the 44 plateau. My problem is I get to 15-20 on the first wipe and then get annihilated again immediately on the 2nd. It gets pushed down so fast that I get 5 or less. It looks like you caught a lucky break on your winning run where the bots all wiped out with you and weren't there to push you down super fast on the restart. Or is that what you're aiming for? Play fast enough to make them fail there as well?

Other times I'm having a great run and don't get pushed down immediately on the 2nd wipe, I suddenly lose and look over to see a bot with 100% accuracy and 0 resets, or very close at least...

Well, I'm not giving up now that someone actually got it. I'm encouraged that you say you were topped out at 35 and then 44, since those are my exact numbers from yesterday and today as well. Guess I'll be smashing my controller on 49s tomorrow. laugh

Definitely one for the trophy case haha. You get those bots with low accuracy by playing for 15 hours >_>...like I said you could have a perfect run, go as fast as possible, but the bots will still beat you at times. After so many attempts you will finally get bots that aren't as good, but you still need to put in the effort and not mess up. Which means all the stars have to align. Its really tough to look up and and go for the blocked colors because then you won't go as fast. For the most part I just try to attack each column equally, otherwise the board will go down and that one column that wasn't focused on will eat you. As for your addition, I actually noticed that watching my video..I swear there was 7 blocks there but it counted as 6...pretty weird. I could add that as a tip but I feel like it is a bit random and may mess you up. I guess just know that it happens?

No offense taken Goats, I had plenty of runs where I went faster but to no avail, I think I deserved 50 on two of my 49 runs because I did it so perfectly and everything. I can upload those videos if you want to study them (need to find them and grab them off my twitch though, wherever they are hiding xD). Like I said, its practice, luck, and perseverance. It's not entirely luck otherwise people will be able to just start the game and randomly get it like its the lottery xD..Weird that you only get 44 though, make sure you go hard on the third puzzle because that will be the one that defines whether or not you win.

Well it took me several hours, but I just managed to pick this one up with 1 board reset. I had 26 triplets on the first puzzle and 24 triplets on the second. All three bots had 2 board resets.

I think if you're good enough to get 46-47 every now and then, then if you play enough, you will get lucky with the setup and the bots will have a bad game.

Finally done it. I very nearly restarted when I had my 2nd board reset at 31 but managed to win 50-49-48-49. About 20 minutes before this I was getting sub-40 scores at best then just decided to focus on the fluency of my movement and pressing A, and sped up quite nicely. That's something I haven't always been able to keep consistent. Anyway, video provided below:

Got it at last. It's a really BS achievement and I think the devs are idiots for including it. (The game is fun and pretty innovative, but they stuck the hardest achievement on the boring copycat Battle Mode? Wut?) You need both an extremely good run and the random luck to have all the bots reset twice.

My winning video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=azl8Cok0Wzc

You can see that I don't have the fastest controller skills, but I was able to keep a consistent flow going by always looking ahead to the next match. Also, I found my scores improved when I focused on keeping the stacks balanced rather than drilling down deep. ie, if there's a yellow single sticking out, my top priority is to find a match for it somewhere.

You clearly didn't read my guide, especially this part: "What you need for this achievement: Lots of practice, and very much fortune, and perseverance! No, seriously. It doesn't matter how perfect your run is, the bot can still beat you. I had it happen the other day, where the bot didn't wipe at all but got 50. You just need the right circumstances to fall into place. You need to believe in yourself! If you think you can do it, you will play better!"

Platinum: My initial strategy was to wipe BEFORE the bots got their first wipe so that I was more prepared for the second puzzle, and many times I had plenty of time to catch up in triplets because of that. The second puzzle one is definitely the hardest, as long as you get a decent amount you should be fine. I normally get a good enough 1st puzzle that in the second puzzle I only need 10 triplets and its good enough to make 30. Over time, I kind of just went with whatever since much of it is based on luck. That one god bot is very annoying, mentioned it so many times on my stream where if he wasn't doing so well I'd probably hit 50 multiple times. Thats the part where you just hope for the best. You'll get there soon though as long as you keep trying :)

Flip: The speed is kind of a hard thing to gauge, I'd say go as fast as you can, as well as you can, and if you mess up then oh well -- keep trying! Eventually you'll get faster, your eyes will spot pieces easier, and mashing the A button will be a bit more natural!

Thanks for the extra feedback.

Damn, I rewatched and noticed that not only did the bots on your winning run all get 49, they also all got 82-83% accuracy! I got a 46 late last night, but the winner had 92%. Dude, how do I get those bots. LOL. I feel a little slighted. The Sausage did look like he ruined a couple of potential 50 runs right before you got it though, so I suppose I'll have to keep trying.

I assume you were panning up a few rows while playing to look for blocked colors? I seem to have the best runs while doing that, but it's difficult to do that and maintain the necessary speed.

BTW, you have two #4s in your tip list.

As for the #5 tip for large groupings of the same color, I have my own addition. I've noticed that you can get away with spamming them as fast as possible without counting, because the game will actually allow 1 A button press without collecting a block if you spam like that and you get down to only 2 blocks left of that color! The key is recognizing that lack of response in that split second and moving on to the next color. It's very beneficial in helping you gain ground on the bots without messing up. The only drawback is it can sometimes lead to you blocking particular blocks of that color, especially if it's just one solid column and not a cluster.

I have done this achievement on my account, my boyfriends account and my boyfriends friends account since Sunday but I did it on a different mode to Brianstormed so I just thought I'd share some tips!

It took me hours and hours to do mine, I went from level 40ish to level 60ish trying to do it and it is very frustrating. At first I was trying it on the 50 triplet mode but personally I found the three rounds mode easier.

Here are the settings I used:

- no weights (not sure what these actually do but I didn't have them on)
- be sure to uncheck the "same boards" box in the game settings
- play 3 rounds
- rubber banding on (not sure how much this matters though)

Here are some of the tricks I picked up:

- if you don't win the first round, quit out and start over (it just puts you in a good position for the rest of the game)
- I've found that the bots all win one before any of them win two (not always but 90% of the time). This gives you an idea of how many chances you have to reach three before they do. For example, if you win the first game, most of the time you will find that all three bots win one game before any of them get to two.
- the boards get harder as you go:
- with the first board you just need to clear it up to the multicoloured block, if you can do that you've nailed the round pretty much
- the second board is a little harder because green blocks are introduced
- I found the third board the hardest, you just have to make sure you look at how your move is going to affect the rest of the board (easier said than done I know!)
- accuracy is more important than the number of blocks cleared. It may seem like you do really badly when you look at how many blocks you've cleared but it really is all about the accuracy of the moves you make. On all three occasions that I got this achievement, my number of blocks cleared was a lot lower than the other three bots but my accuracy was a lot higher. I got between 96 and 98 % accuracy while the bots were getting 91 to 93 % (it really does make a difference!)

Other than that all I can say is persevere! Like i said it took me hours but once I got it on my account I popped the achievement on two more accounts within hours of each other. You get used to moving faster and looking three or four moves ahead the more and more you practise!

If anyone needs any more help feel free to comment or send me a message :) Good luck!

Rubber banding is a handicap for the player in the lead.
Thats why it seems to balance itself out... your boards will be easier than the oppenents if they're winning.
The weights determin how hard the boards will be - each weight will make the blocks appear in harder locations for a very quick match of 3... not by much though.

Haven't attempted this in quite some time but it sounds like one of the updates made this a bit easier, not much but a bit.
Congrats none the less.

You will get it! If I can get it three times, anyone can, trust me! Just persevere with it and try and look a few moves ahead. Part of it is skill but it is mostly luck for drawing decent boards. Keep trying! :) I would offer to do if for you but chances are I won't be able to do it again!
