How to unlock the What just happened? achievement in TUNIC - Definitive Guide

After opening the large golden door near the start of the game - the first time you die from an enemy you will be transported back to the golden door room, after you walk towards the blue fox it will revive you and you will earn the achievement. If you die before opening the door, I believe you will respawn on the beach and won't get the achievement.

NOTE:
If you've been playing with "No fail mode" enabled and have already used all 3 colour keys to free "The Heir", then the initial section where you get revived won't play as The Heir won't be in the prison anymore so be sure to die before then, to ensure you don't need to start a new playthrough. (This won't be too much of an issue as pressing "New game" won't override your previous playthrough)

If doing the no fail option just go to “save” at one of the shrines, then turn it off no fail in options, and go die to a monster by just standing next to it. You will respawn at the shrine, and boom, achievement unlocked. Now turn it back on and go to where you died to collect the money you lost.

You'll be able to unlock it by starting a new playthrough (Your old save won't be overwritten it auto saves new games to different slots)

I just let enemy kill me. I didn't open the golden door. I respawned as a blue character. Then I continued to walk up and off of the bridge into a void. I then found the blue fox. I pressed A. Was revived and the achievement popped.

*MISSABLE*

If you use No Fail mode from the Accessibility options, you'll actually miss this achievement. This achievement requires you to die before a certain point in the game. If you progress far enough in the story, turning off No Fail mode and dying won't unlock this achievement. However, if you don't get it in your main playthrough, you can simply start a new one (it won't overwrite your existing save) and just let the first enemies kill you. Run to the left across an invisible bridge and talk to the NPC, who will resurrect you at a shrine, unlocking this achievement.

Missable

If you progress too far into the game instead of getting the resurection cutscene you will just respawn at the last shrine you rested at. Also happens if you go into some of the later game areas before the game leads you there, best to just get it out of the way early.

After you die for the first time you will be transported to a otherworldly plane, run forward and interact with the goddess to be revived.
