Personally I found that killing a whole town like Qudinar as being at level 40 I'm barely reach level 42/43. I found it was better to do quests to gain experience. So do a maximum of quests and you'll earn more points than killing people. Indeed, by killing a civilian you will only gain twenty / twenty-six xp while some quests that take 5 minutes will give you 460, or 720 xp points. The quests that are a little longer will give you more than 1000 xp and if you're in level 40 you will gain a level almost directly.
I particularly recommend to do the missions of the Enclave, a small village inhabited by necromancers, there are 2 or 3 quests available and the last for " The Flame" (village head ..) will give you 2000 to 3000 points at once if I remember correctly. Once you are at level 49 or end of level 48, go to a big city like Qudinaar and kill everyone until you reach level 50. "Reaching level 50” is the latest achievement I’ve done. That way I got the 1000G within 21 hours, no more, focusing on Achievements :).
If necessary, a small list (incomplete) of the number of xp that some creatures give in the game:
- Cyclops -> 45 exp
- Quest Giver -> 20 exp
- Lava Dragon -> 49 exp
- Trainers -> 40 exp
- Big Skeleton -> 25 exp
- Rabbit, chicken, fox, sleep, etc. ... -> 0 exp
- Silver Wolf -> 6 exp
- Seller-> 40 exp
- Mummy -> 43 exp
- Undead -> 21 exp
- Octrogon -> 47 exp
- Orc -> 30 exp
- Scorpio -> 40 exp
- Skeleton -> 15 exp
- Skeleton Fire -> 43 exp
- Skeleton of ice -> 20 exp
- shakal -> 40 exp
- Civilian -> 26 exp

I've started working on discovering every location and I find that there are a lot of monsters along the way. I did it on a previous tag without ever getting

I was level 54 before I made my new tag, so just killing monsters along the way while working towards those two achievements will surely get to you 50 without having to actually focus on leveling.

I think auvryndrar is right, work on visiting achievements and you'll reach level 50 while doing it.
For information, you'll need at least 53.654 exp to reach level 50 !

First, finish the main questline. You can do this (on easy difficulty) in the early 30's with little trouble. From there, work on finding all the locations in the game. If you go into an underground or find an orc camp of some kind, be sure to kill anything you can. Once you've done this (and have all other achievements in the game, especially the one for learning all skills) go ahead and slaughter every innocent you can find. Wiping out the few large cities in the game will get you from 42-50 fairly easily.
