How to unlock the Free Kick taker achievement in UEFA EURO 2008 - Definitive Guide

After trying for ages I finally got this **** Achievement !

Just wanted to make one's contribution:

there's a easy way to get a freekick every time just get the ball and run to the 18 yard box and turn away so you our 20-30 yards from the goal.then let go of the analog and just hold LT when the defender comes from behind he will start to push you then let go of LT and he will push your player over resulting in a freekick. (This tip is from westsidehammers )

Now, In order to finally score, I tried to get a foul just in front of the goal and as the limit of a penalty kick.

Then shoot on the extreme left or right of the goal (depending where the wall is) Then, press LB + down and push B until the bar's color turns to yellow.

It works almost all the time.

Hope it will help you guys !

Good luck ! It's definitely the hardest achievements of the game !

Thanks Nodiflo, i finally done it, the first attempt after my earlier comment. Yeah, it needs to be close to give the best chance. Opposite sides of the wall aswell, as the kick never dips to goal level after going above the wall.

I done it as Milan Baros against Albania! Now for the Milan Baros achievement!

Nice guide, I got there eventually.

Just to note that it unlocked for me at the end of the game and not as soon as I scored.

Does this have to be done on a certain difficulty level? I am using the technique on amatuer but they never give free kicks away and just come round the sides and poke the ball free.

Do you shoot over the wall or to the opposite side of the wall?

I ask the same question as DRUNKZ 27.

Ive been trying both, but the goalie easily saves if i shoot either side of the wall.

I did it by shooting to the opposite side of the wall.

Try to be as close as possible. I tried many teams and finally scored with Thierry Henry against St Marino.

First of all, thanks to Nodiflo & EmDeeGee for their tips on winning a free-kick. I actually did this on amateur difficulty on my run through as Kyrgiakos for Greece (Defender), so it possible to win a FK using the methods previously discussed on amateur.

I didn't get it until my Semi Final v Denmark as I had used the previous matches to improve my stats. I focussed on Finishing, FK Accuracy, and Shot Power, I didn't increase my Curve stat at all.

In the match I ran the ball to either corner of the penalty area, turned my back to goal, and held LT. As I was on amateur it somtimes took a while for a defender to "bite", but when I did I flicked the left stick in the opposite direction from their tackle, keeping LT held, and most of the time I won a free-kick.

I tried all methods already discussed but couldn't get any to work, so I reverted to my normal FIFA technique. As the kick is level with the corner of the penaly area, the wall is quite far left/right so hitting it over the wall leaves the GK with no way of reaching it. For the kick itself I held RB and down on the LS and used about 1/3 power, this seemed to cause the ball to dip slightly after clearing the wall and go into the top corner.

Hope this alternative technique helps a few more people.

It's funny how everyone proposes a different technique that works for him/her for finally netting that FK ;)

Finally got this one today, after trying for seven (!) hours. First, still using the technique described by Nodiflo, I found out that you can increase your chance of getting a FK by keeping LT in after the defender is coming around. If they attempt to get the ball by moving to your left or right, which they sometimes do, gently push LS in the opposite direction while still keeping hold of LT: he will still be facing your back and the luring can begin again :D

Additional tip: if you're not always the captain, start a new tournament and see which players are usually the FK takers: just become one of those! That way, you don't have to be captain. Sometimes though, there are teams which have two different FK takers, one for the direct one, and one for the indirect one. I advise you to be the indirect one, because I was rarely tackled at the very edge of the box. Maybe that was because of my defensive opponent, so if you can get those close FKs, become the other one :)

I also tried Nodiflo's method of scoring, by using the LB + LS(down) + B method, but I can't get that to work for me. Tried this for six hours straight yesterday, but couldn't get a goal.

I propose a different technique: When you get a FK, aim between the keeper and the far post. You'll have to shoot over the wall for this one. Aim a lot closer to the post than to the keeper. Then, hold LS(up) and use only B. Shoot quite softly (about one third of the bar, just before it becomes yellow). When you shoot, gently push the stick in the direction of the post (whil still holding up!) for that little extra curve.

I used Italy, while playing Di Rossi, on Semi-Pro. I was captain and played a match against Liechtenstein over and over again, so I could use my Captain's badge to take the direct ones as well. I also maxed out my FK stats in the previous games.

I used the LB + Down + B Method first for 2 Hours but no luck.
Then i tried yours with LB + UP + B and give it a slight curl after it,that worked like a charm after the third try.
Thanks for the Tip, saved a lot of nerves :)

Choose Semi Amateur. I could not do this in Amateur.

Getting a freekick, i only needed to keep holding down LT rather than letting go of of it. The player needs to have his back facing the goal. NOTE: this doesnt always work either, for me it worked one every two goes which is ok.

Now the dreaded freekick. I held down LB + down on the left analog stick, but i also held down on the right analog stick. I shot to the left side of the goal when the freekick was on the left side facing the goal (left side of the wall). I held down B until a little bit of yellow shows. Bang, back of the net.

Complete the match and the achievement will unlock.

Again the hard part is getting a free kick although these will come more often than penalties. While playing through Captain you Country mode you should get a few free kicks not far outside the box that you can score from. The easiest way to score would obviously be on amateur mode and just try hitting it over the wall into the top corner. From about 30 yards out is probably easiest to get it up and down and score and hold the bar down about one third. You will also need to be the free kick taker obviously which you will earn and once you are captain you have access to team management. You can also put up your players attributes to help score the free kick.

(If you have Fifa 08 you will probably be quite good at free kicks by now and you can practice in the free roam arena by pressing an arrow button)
