This appears on day 2 right as the day starts. Mine appeared to the right but yours may appear in a different direction. If you exit the screen or enter the house it will disappear. If you did miss it then do this:
Load a fresh game. Stand in front of the house and enter it every time an enemy appears. When there is a sliver left of day 1 (at night) go save. That way if u dont find the chest u can crash the game and reload your save to try again. Shouldnt need to but better safe than sorry
Apparently they can appear on day 4 and day 6 as well. This was not my experience but it may help if you missed it.

My first chest appeared on day 4. I also had a chest appear on day 6. An arrow popped up pointing in the direction of the chest.
