How to unlock the A Little Rusty achievement in Under The Waves - Definitive Guide
Use song 1, that's the easiest.
I was really struggling with this, and this may be apparent to some, but it wasn't to me, when the song plays, some of the notes are long. Simply hold the corresponding button while the node plays and you get more points.
You can screw up quite a lot and even if you miss some of the longer nodes, as long as you hold down the button, even if you fumbled the start (resetting the counter), it still yields quite a lot of points.
Having tried for hours, I was able to nail it in two attempts after discovering that you could hold down the buttons at the longer nodes for more points.

You find the guitar in a crate in one of the wrecks. I did this on my third try, I found had to be pretty perfect with nailing the button press timing. 1st attempt - 4k points, 2nd attempt 4.5k, 3rd attempt 5200 or so.

.
I used song #1 also. Took me about 8 - 10 attempts.
I noticed that you have to hit the corresponding button at the front of the letter on screen, not the middle.
I didn't have a lot of room for error.
If you mess up at the start, play the whole song anyway to get familiar with the pattern.
Eventually, you'll get it.
It also helps to actually feel the rhythm, as you should.
Lastly, I noticed that it added to the game experience as if I was alone in the underwater habitat playing guitar to pass the time.
