That`s simpler done than I thought. After you die your little canary carries a big part of the gold you`ve collected on that run to safety, the rest just drops to the ground around your body and the pilfers appear and begin to carry the nuggets away - that actually does count towards the 5000 gold they have to steal for the achievement.
Just let them do their work for a minute or two after you die until all gold is stolen or until they no longer appear.
Does not work in boss battles, the do not spawn there.
