How to unlock the Master Swordsman achievement in UnderMine - Definitive Guide

As of version 1.0.1.35

The Masamune is created when you place the Masa relic down on the Relic Altar, then return on another run while getting the Masa relic again and finding the Relic Altar room, then combining both these relics (Mune will now be there). It works in both the regular mine and othermine (they share this room).

It's best to attempt this when you have no issues navigating through the regular mine to completion and all upgrades. Buy the Masa relic then do a normal mine run (set summoning stone to 0). The Relic Altar room will always show up a single time. Be careful that when you do a start then quit game, if the mine level you were on had a Relic Altar room will no longer be there. Once you place the Masa relic down, you can give up, die or complete the run.

If you were like me and already bought the Masa relic before placing it down, this will be more difficult. I found that the Relic Altar room usually spawns too early in the regular mine, so I used the othermine for this. You will want to have quite a bit of nether stored up. This room usually spawns half way through the othermine run so make sure you are comfortable with defeating bosses in this mode. You will want to save up enough money so that you can use the TRANSMUT3 in the relic rooms to re-roll the relic until you find the Masa. What I did was go into the single key relic room and if it had a TRANSMUT3, I would roll it as much as I could. If the Masa did not pop up, do a quit game and start the level again. Usually the same layout and relics are placed, if so, the same re-rolls will occur so just grab the first relic to remove that from the pool and save your money. The more relics you find the better, but sometimes the 4 key rooms are not worth it since you may run out of keys. You can also get the Masa from the start of each floor when you are offered 2 relics. Having relics that drop extra keys/bombs are useful as well as extra gold blessings since most of your gold should be to used for the TRANMUT3 machines.

To get this, you need to have two artifacts in your inventory at the same time: Masa and Mune.

Masa itself is a rare relic that can be found where any regular relic can be found. Mune on the other hand, requires a few extra steps. Once you find Masa, you need to deposit it on a Relic Altar. Once deposited, it will turn itself into Mune on all future runs. This then means that you will have to reacquire Masa again (plus another relic for the altar), then find the altar, and finally withdraw Mune.

This will then net you the Legendary relic Masamune, which gives you the ability to instakill enemies randomly, plus the achievement.

Need to update this- as it kind of messed a run up for me.
It only turns to Mune the very next run. Otherwise it turns back to Masa in the altar.
Follow up- once you find Mune naturally, it stays Mune on the altar, though the original relic will turn back to Masa after the subsequent run

Some extra info on this, once you've unlocked Mune, both items will appear in shops/item rooms. You do NOT need to get both Masa and Mune on the run you've transferred Mune on. Make sure to pick up Mune though on the first instance to be sure you've unlocked it.

I'm a little confused. I found Masa on a run and deposited on the altar during that run. Next run I find the altar again but it's still Masa. I figured I could 'reset' it if I pick it up and deposit it again. Next run I find the altar, it's still Masa. I'm working my way up the summoning stones, so I'm never finding the altar on the same difficulty - could that be the problem?

I started doing Othermine runs and once again, Masa was still on the altar. I decided to just take it as it was helpful for the run. 7 floors later I encounter a regular relic room and to my surprise it's Mune.

that means you already picked up Mune at some point. Relic's like Mune must be picked up or crafted at least once before they show up at random in relic rooms or shops.

You need to have two relics at the same time - Masa and Mune. Masu can be found with a rare chance during a race, but to obtain Mune, Masu must be placed on the altar of relics; it will transform into Mune in a new race. Also, each of these artifacts can be obtained with a good chance in the secret room with the bard. We sacrifice more than 50% of the gold to the bard, and he gives out any artifact of your choice, but the choice is still limited (he offers only a certain number of relics to choose from, about 25-30), and does not give a 100% chance of getting the relic you need.

There is another of the many, but faster ways to get it. Accumulate 15-25 currency in the underground. Come in and see what relics they gave you. If you don’t need it, go in and immediately give up. Let's go and look again. Then through savescam. We load and try again. An attempt takes on average from 50 seconds to a minute. We get Masu or Mune at the start and go underground in the hope of reaching the altar.
Also, if you put not Masa on the altar (to get Mune), but Mune, then there will be Masa on the altar in the future
