How to unlock the Soul Restored achievement in UnderMine - Definitive Guide

This is to serve mainly as an update for the original guide here, which is very solid. After grabbing Siegfried’s shield in the first antechamber, every time you drop a floor in the Othermine, you’ll get an unremovable major curse. The object is to beat the game with all of these curses on you, 12 in all. In the past, you could use items like the Doll and Ara to block these, but that has been patched out. Theoretically, you could reinstall the game and go offline to go to a point where you don’t have the updates that removed that ability, but there is another way.

For me, believe it or not, the greatest asset was the Pilfer Credit Cards. I did the run twice to see if I just got lucky. (after you get the shield you also get a hex that puts the same effect on you if you want, you masochist) The first time I got the black credit card, the second the gold. Both times I had the fire bird familiar.

The credit card appears at shops at random and costs 1 gold. The kicker is it gives you the ability to go into the negatives for gold when buying at shops, up to a certain limit. This is way more useful than it sounds. Gold is usually limited heavily in Othermine. This essentially gives you free reign to buy every upgrade in the shop, for free, without it actually affecting your ability to purchase until far later floors. By the time I ran out of credit on the Black card, I was at the 11th floor of 12, already couldn’t use keys anymore due to a combination of the health cost Key curse, and a massive max health debuff curse, and was still able to get relics And upgrades through the shop. By the time I couldn’t use the shop, I had my axe and hp at level 7. My second time I had similar results but topped out at floor nine, beat a boss, then got enough gold to pay the limit down a bit for the final run.

The fire bird comes into play for bosses and rooms with particularly hard enemies (Rift Worms give me a lot of trouble personally). If you’re in trouble, low on health, or can’t reach an enemy, throw your axe to target them for the familiar and let them do the work while you focus on dodging. It can be slow at times but it’ll keep you alive. Same concept for the Lesser Demon and thunderbird familiars (maybe also the monkey, I haven’t used it yet)

One last thing to mention: if you lose way too much health in a room or floor, do not be afraid to quit out to the menu and reload. It’ll put you at the beginning of the floor with all the health and items you had at the start. It saved me more than once in my run. There is no reason to fight Ponzu with six health when you can restart the floor, and get to him with 200

Last but not least, some items I found invaluable to Siggy runs.

Lava Walkers- lots of curses put fire everywhere. These render them moot

Float Boots-free mobility around the room which is massive considering you’ll likely be killed if you get cornered. Also makes Ponzu a laugher.

Pocket Grill - lots of major curses effect health recovery. Cooking everything negates it

Battle Axe - swing speed and range are key when you have to get close and do as much as you can before retreating like a grave hero. This provides both.

Spare Ordinance, Leftovers, etc. - anything that gives you guaranteed items from chests. A lot of curses turn chests into traps or mimics, these guarantee you get at least SOMETHING from them.

Gold enhancing items - popcorn, bombs, etc. even with the CC you want as much gold as possible to keep your limit up. If something gets you gold, you want it.

Keep at it and you’ll have the shield in no time. Happy mining!

Considering permanent curses cannot be blocked anymore I'm deleting my guide as this one is much better!

For items I also recommend Doom Blade it increases swing damage depending on the number of curses you have. Gotta be lucky at Sho'guul's lair.

You can also unload a gold potion before you speak to the guy to start the othermine and then pick it up before entering that helped out loads as the gold seems to be anywhere between 750-900 for me atleast without getting pilfer credit card luck that goes a long way for atleast some upgrades.. I originally got really unlucky with relics then I got battle axe done me great for distance and then I got mirror and floating skulls to combine into mirror shield and alongside thunderbird that majorly helped my game against most rooms I just hid let thunderbird work the damage and dodged all incoming ranged attacks and the ones I slipped up against mirror shield deflected, hope that helps someone

at the entrance to the underground, the shield lies at the top right, you need to take it and carry it until the very end.
The difficulty in the Underdark is that upon descending each floor you are given a curse that cannot be removed. The most negative of them is the mushroom, in which for each enemy you kill, your total amount of HP decreases until it becomes equal to 1. Ideally, you can get such a mushroom closer to the end of the rink; if you get it at the beginning, it’s easier to start again.
To help you get through the underground, transfer your saves to the cloud/flash drive after each autosave when descending to a lower level. This is especially true if you have collected an ultimate damage set, but because of the mushroom you have little HP.
Recommendation: if you knock out a relic in the form of a knife, which gives enormous damage, but breaks when receiving any damage, carefully bring it to the autosave, and then, through the transfer of saves, reach the end of the game with it. Damage under 200 when throwing a pickaxe is the easiest way to deal with any boss.
PS I went through with the melee set (damage under 200 due to an artifact that increases damage for each curse), but because of the mushroom, which reduced HP to 1, I had to work hard in the last levels.

some facts.
In total, underground is 12 floors and 4 bosses. (scolopendra excluded)
plus before each floor there is a choice of one curse out of two and one curse when descending to the floor.
16 curses in total by the end of the race.
I think the worst ones are those after which you can immediately restart the race.
1) damage when jumping (in a game in which all you do is jump to survive)
2) when killing enemies, health decreases down to 1 (I’m sure there are skilled people who can achieve know-damage, but not me)
3) enemies burn and set the hero on fire (85% of all battles take place when you are standing close to the enemy and the fire deals 60-90 damage)

p.s. if you are lucky enough to find a credit card in the stibrick store, consider yourself lucky, buy all the upgrades and items.
