You must play stealthily to level up!

You only get XP by taking out guards who haven't seen you. If you alert a guard, even if you escape and allow them to go back to their post, you won't get XP when you take them out

You'll reach level 2 before reaching the second stage of the game. It will be one of the first achievements you unlock.
