Is this really difficult? I played the first game and didn't think the completion was very hard but the 9.9 ratio for this sequel is a little frightening.

Overall the sequels achievements are definitely harder. With practice, the time challenges aren't too difficult with 2 exceptions: Hideaway and the 45 min challenge run.

So the achievements for no death can be made easier using a quick pause and restart checkpoint.

It’s even possible to do this just as you are about to die. I was hit by a flame and paused and hit restart, achievement still popped

Tried this quick pause and restart check point method on different levels and it does not work no achievements unlocked from it
