Get a life…

Get a life…

Got 200 kills in multiplayer on 50 different days.

50

How to unlock the Get a life… achievement in Unreal Tournament 3 - Definitive Guide

UPDATE: Cleaned this up a bit with some more info and a more direct walkthrough.

There is a much faster method that won't require you to actually do this on 50 different days.

Each cycle ("day") takes about 12 minutes (assuming you can get 200 kills in 10 minutes), so in total this takes about 10 hours.

First of all I recommend installing the game to hard drive as this will reduce load times and also save your 360 constantly starting/stopping reading the disk as you return to dashboard each time.

1. Before you even start the game, go to your Dashboard. Go to System Settings > Console Settings > Clock > Time Zone. Scroll all the way to the top and select "GMT -12 Tokelau".

2. Now start the game (do this quickly by hitting the Guide button and selecting 'Play Unreal Tournament 3' at the bottom) and get your 200 kills "for the day" - see below for a fast method of getting 200 kills.

3. Once the game ends, "Disconnect" (press start and hit Y) to go back to the game's main menu and then return to your System Settings (do this quickly by hitting the Guide button, moving right to the Settings tab, then selecting 'System Settings'). Return to the Time Zone setting as before, but this time scroll all the way to the bottom and select "GMT +14 Kiribati".

4. Restart the game. Changing your timezone tricked the game into thinking it's now a different day. The game doesn't actually make sure you get the kills on 50 distinct days, it just checks whether the current date is different from the last time you played and decides that it is a "new" day.

5. Get another 200 kills. Once the game ends, again return to main menu before going back to Dashboard, then simply rinse and repeat from step 1.

As for getting the 200 kills each cycle, I personally recommend the following setup:

Multiplayer > Host Match
Deathmatch
Map: Rising Sun (some prefer Morbias Arena, I like to switch it up to prevent boredom)
Player Match with min players set to 1 and max/private set to 16
Bot Skill Level: Novice
Goal Score: 0
Time Limit: 10
Force Respawn: Yes

Hit X to set Mutators and add Super Berserk and Weapon Replacement by selecting them and hitting Y. Now configure Weapon Replacement by selecting it and hitting X and change every weapon to Enforcer. Hit A (not B) to go back to the settings menu so that the mutators save, then start the game and cut through bots with dual enforcers, easily getting 200 kills within 10 minutes.

Thank you for describing this in great detail. I have heard about this but wasn't sure how it worked. Now I know just what to do :-).

I will be trying this so I'll let people know if it works (and I'm sure it does) as to diffuse any confusion regarding this achievement.

Just a little note, you say in your solution that you can do it in Instant Action, this is incorrect. You should change this to Player Match.

Well, I don't know for sure because I don't have it yet. I spent a few days doing instant action as well, so I don't know if I wasted my time there either, but it also went toward other achievements so I just wrote off the loss. I don't think anyone wants to spend 10 hours doing this to find out if instant action works though :P

I would like to know why you decided to choose Rising Sun as the map? Morbias Arena is probably the smallest map in UT3, and you can easily get 20+ kills in a matter of a minute or two on that map.

Good question Lososs. I actually experimented with different maps before settling on Rising Sun. On Rising Sun, everyone rushes the biorifle in the middle, which is right near body armor. Get the armor and then cut through bots like a hot knife through butter. I average about 30 kills per minute on this map and always have over 200 by the end of ten minutes. Sometimes I switch to Morbias Arena just for a change, but I just prefer Rising Sun. It may just be a personal preference thing.

Hang on, I want to absolutely confirm this, it MUST be in actual multiplayer, instant action does NOT work? 'Cos I'm seeing really mixed solutions for this all over the internet. I've gone onto multiplayer just to be safe now, but otherwise that's 5/6 days I've wasted.

How can you write out a guide for an achievement that you don't already have? Did you just want the stat next to your name saying that you posted a solution?

No, I wanted to share the best/quickest method in an easy-to-follow guide so that others might be able to get the achievement easier. There is plenty of confirmation that this method works. Just because I haven't had time to grind this out myself (I work about 60 hours a week, give me a break) doesn't mean everyone can't benefit from my method.

Here's a little tweak for even faster kills on Morbias. In the weapon change mutator: like normally, change Rocket Launcer to Enforcer, but also: change Enforcer to Impact Hammer. This will mean everyone will start with impact hammer - bots will stumble around even more pathetically than normal :D. Just be a bit more active on refilling your ammo and you can hit the 200 kills mark in 7 minutes, giving you a few minutes to do other stuff (like posting this on TA).

So can you do this indeffinetely during a day, could you litteraly do the achievement in 10 straight hours? Or does this work around only let you get 2 "days" in within 24 hours?
0
0
By Skinstakovic on 30 Jan 2011 02:03
Yes, you can do this in a single sitting in 10 hours. Each time you start the game it simply compares the current date to the previous date you had started the game. As long as the date changes in the interval (when you return to settings and change time zone) it will increment your total days.

So wait, you can go back and forth from one day to the next and it will count as 50 different days? Like, if you go from -12 to +14 back to -12, that's 3 days?

The 12 minutes is just an estimated time per iteration, not a directive about how the timing works. As long as the xbox system date is different on each iteration, it will count as a "new" day.

Thanks for the extra tips and feedback! Also, if you're looking to grind out the 500 ranked wins with a partner, send me a message and we can setup some sessions as I still haven't gotten around to wrapping this up :p I know most people do it with 2 consoles so they don't have to reciprocate for a partner, thus taking half the time, but I no longer have a second system and probably won't for a while.

I don't know, with dual enforcers it's pretty easy to rack up 200 kills. You don't HAVE to do it in one match, but I don't think I ever needed two... Maybe you just need to warm up to the game. I played a lot of UT99 back in the day so it was like getting back on a bike for me...

I really like Biohazard with Super Beserk instead of Speed Freak since this will give you full ammo for the enforcer per pickup from an dead enemy, also run weapons respawn, this way gets me a day done in about 8mins in-game time and about 10mins per considering the time changing rebooting hosting and whatnot

Thanks for all the helpful information NV Defines. The 50 days do not all need to be consecutive either, for those of you who are worried about days being lost if you miss a day or two. Most of my 200 kills days were way back in 2008.

Just finished my kills on day 52. I did miss a few since starting, but I've kept a calendar where I've marked off the days that I did this on. Still no achievement, so I guess this now has to be done on consecutive days. Guess since I missed yesterday then today is day 1 again... This achievement sucks.

Just did this on the series X the date changing stuff still works! also did my kills in split screen on CTF Facing worlds. Put instagib and speed freak on stand near the back left of the enemy spawn and you block their spawns killed my dummy account 200 times (press start on his controller to see kill score) then turbo RT and reset it every 13ish mins. It's a little longer to do but lets you work on PC games laugh

For anyone coming back to this to mop it up after the server closure announcements, the time change method does still work and works on the Series X and YOU CAN quit out of the match as soon as you get your 200 kills (I did 201 to be safe). The achievement unlocked while in my 50th match when I hit the 200 kills and I had been quitting out after hitting 201 kills in all previous 49 matches.

I was averaging roughly around 8 minutes from disconnecting from the lobby to the title screen, closing UT3 and going into my settings to change my timezone, relaunching the game, recreating the lobby and getting the 200 kills. Could hit as many as 160 kills at the 5 minutes remaining announcement mark sometimes so you can get it done pretty quickly depending on your deaths and ammo. So this achievement can be done in roughly 6-7 hours.

For anyone wondering, this achievement will still be obtainable after the servers close down by January 24, 2023. You can actually still play the Multiplayer mode without being online via System Link matches. It's only the Ranked match achievements that'll require having access to the game's online servers.

Basically, you can still obtain the "Get a life...", "Lets get it on", and "Around the World" achievements even after the servers close down.

I can confirm what ninjaraiden2003 said, you can quit the match right after getting the 200 kills and it will still count.

Edit: I just unlocked the achievement so the method works on Series S/X as well if you don't have access to a 360.

Edit 2: Just wanted to make things more clear for anyone interested

On an xbox one or Series S/X navigate to Settings--->System----> Time--->Time Zone

Scroll to the very top and you'll find (UTC-12:00) change your existing time zone to this.

Launch the game and get your 200 kills. This is easily done on Morbius Arena, I usually had 2:30 to 3 minutes remaining so I idled the match until time ran out.

When I saw the game had saved and the next match was loading I'd quit to the main menu. Close the game/Quit to dashboard.

IF YOU'RE ON SERIES S OR X make sure the game has closed rather than being in quick resume. I imagine that if you leave it in quick resume the game will not register the change in "days"

Go back to Settings and Time then change it to (UTC+14:00) Kiritimati Island. Get your 200 kills again. Follow the other steps I mentioned, then change back to (UTC-12:00)

Rinse and repeat: its exactly as OP said just on a different console.

Edit 3: Just in case it needs to be mentioned DON'T forget to switch back to your native time zone when taking a break from the grind/upon finishing the achievement.

Okay so I got it couple things to add to you're already nice guide.

Don't worry bout the 12minute time zone switch interval, just keep trying to do it in 10mins it still counts even if you're after 12min since youre on a new day after time zone switch. If you reach 200kills you can quit just make sure you see the save on top right before switching. At least it worked for me, so it should for you too. I mixed in some quits n realized it helped a ton with speeding up the process.

Nv Defines put a good set up to complete and I seitched maps because playing one drains you and yes this will seem like you're doing it for 10-15hrs depending on speed. It feels like you'll never make it but aslong as you follow his steps and keep switchings days you'll be fine. Put music or be in a party chat, this grind sucks hard...one of the worst i've done lol. I would not do it again. To help with you're "is this really working feeling" keep track of matches because there isn't a way to track it like on the ps3.

Thanks again for the awesome guide, now to do the 500 ranked wins lol

Easiest way:

- Host an online game, 16 players, 16 private slots
- Deathmatch, map 'Morbias'
- Bots on easiest setting
- Kill Limit 0, Time Limit 10
- Mutators: Weapon Replacement, Super Berserk

Put all weapons to the enforcer, and play the game. Fairly easy to get Monster Kills and 25 kill streaks; usually get 200 kills total in 8 minutes. Wait for the round to finish, repeat again the next day!

Note: Redeemer in the middle spawns about 3 times. Make use if you like...!

I can confirm that you DO NOT have to finish the match for the kills to count. You must ensure that it gives the "saving" icon when you quit out of the match though. The achievement also popped in match for me. Nothing like waiting til the day of to finish off these achievements that I've had on my to-do list for 23 years... lol

Best of luck to anyone trying to finish up before the servers close down!

Well i got my achievo last night and i can tell you....it´s not just on multiplayer matches...also works on instant action. I always take notes in a paper about everything that i play...and i did my 200 kills each day playing 28 days on instant action and 22 days player matches...on the 50th day i heard the beautiful achievo sound.

Instead of weapon replacement/berserk, just add the Instakill mutator.

the problem with the instakill one is that they can kill you as fast as saying wibble, you don't want to die to often or you won't get your 200 kills

I easily managed 200 kills in 10 minutes with Instakill on. Just play on Morbias Arena and get into a corner beside the lift in the spawn rooms. Then just blast away as they spawn.

I've been doing this but once i get up to 200 some kills I just disconnect, exit the match... does that make the 11 days of doing this so far worthless? Do they not count now?

Not sure if those kills count WhiteBoy034. I can say for sure that the achievement pops immediately after the 200th kill on the 50th day. It does not pop at the end of the match at the score screen.

Well, I've been at this achievement for quite some time now and I'm a little confused. I'm using this method, but what I'm wondering is, after the match is over and the saving icon comes up, when is the best time to back out of the match? The way I do it is when the next match starts. Am I still getting credit for my 200 kills for that day? The confusing part is that there's another saving icon when you go to the main menu.

I just got the achievement today. I did this method, and would press Y to disconnect after the scores reset to 0 (when the next match would start) and back out to the menu. As Planting said the achievement unlocks during the match, but the problem with unreal is does it save what you had done previously? I figured waiting the 10 minutes, going through the results screen, and then waiting for the next match to start ensured this. I got the achievement exactly 2 months on the day from first starting this game, which there was a few days I missed so this method works, just don't rush out of the game after you get kill #200. Not worth losing a day to save yourself 3 minutes. If you are going for this achievement, obviously your time isn't all that important :-)

For everyone uncertain about when to exit the game, Unreal Tournament saves your progress toward these achievements instantly. I've confirmed this with many different items on this game including "Get a Life", "Deathwish", "Ace" and others -- I just disconnected from the game the second I got whatever I was in pursuit of (with a small exception of the 200 kills, I got 201 before disconnecting just to "make sure").

if your scared of kills not counting put the kill limit to 50 since your 200th kill will result in a saving icon right when it happens

Multi console setup like this.

Host Match
Deathmatch
Morbias Arena (smallest with no health regen and only a supernuke)
Max Players 16
Private Slots, 16
Bot Skill Level Novice
Goal Score 0
Time Limit 10
Force Respawn On

Mutators:
Weapons Respawn
Weapon Replacement (all to the Enforcers)
Super Berserk

Do this setup till the servers close and somewhere you'll get the achievement. It will pop on your 200th kill on the 50th day. I personally got about 250 - 325 kills in the 10 minute time limit.

Once you finish a game for a day, wait for it to end then disconnect with Y at the end of the match and then make sure it says Saving... in the top right hand corner of the main menu,

What the hell does, "Do this setup till the end of time and somewhere you'll get the achievement", mean???

It means that if you do this setup till the end of time, sometime before the stars flicker out you'll get the achievement.

Over the course of working towards this achievement I have discovered another time saving route.

Load up Morbias in deathmatch as it is the perfect size for an all out brawl with 16 private bots

Set the score to zero and the time to ten minutes (You'll be done with the kill count in six to seven minutes.)

The key difference here is:
Switch all weapons to the enforcer except the rocket launcher which is turned into the impact hammer. For some reason the Ai throws caution to the wind in a hurry to secure the hammer and will often bunch up in an easily killable group.

Turn on speed freak or super berserk, turn off super pickups

Kill 201 bots for safeties sake and finish the match out before switching the date as usual.

2 Player Splitscreen Turbo controller/Rubberband Method
All credit goes to my good friend LAUGH1NGOCTOPUS.

Menu
- Multiplayer
- Host Match
- CTF
- Facing Worlds

Server
- Player Match
- Max Player = 2
- Min Player = 0
- Private Slots = 2

Settings
- Splitscreen = Yes
- Bots = Disabled
- Goal Score = 50
- Time Limit = 60
- Force Respawn = Yes

Mutators
- Instagib
- Speed Freak

Strategy
Stand back-left behind the building at enemy spawn at an angle that gets both of the 2 possible spawns. Turbo RT/hold RT with rubberband until 201 kills (roughly 12-13 mins). Disconnect from match. Alternate time zone from -12 to +14 and vice versa. Rinse and repeat 50 times. Push start on the second controller for a live view of the score. Not the fastest way to do it but definitely least effort!

Hope this helps someone!

Get 200 kills in a day on 50 different days. This does not have to be done in a row.
I would advise playing loads of novice bot games until you achieve 200 kills and then have a rest until the next day (or whenever) and rinse and repeat. Do this in multiplayer matches. A good tip is not to play close to midnight and I would advise to play on Rising Sun with max bots on Deathmatch to 20 (10 times to 200). You could also work towards other achievements when doing this.

So for those who have the hardware to use 3 consoles, and have access to 3 gold accounts (or 2 via Home Console trick), I found a way that may be twice as fast.

Using 3 consoles, I had access to 5 players.
Console 1; secondary account from the Shared gold, 1 player, host of the lobby.
Console 2; secondary gold account, 2 players split-screen.
Console 3; main account going for the achievement, 2 players split-screen.

Using the account that's not split-screen, I created a CTF lobby in multiplayer, obviously a player match, not ranked;

Capture the Flag
Map: Facing Worlds
Maximum players doesn't matter
Bots Disabled
Goal Score: 1
Time Limit: 10
Force Respawn: Yes

For mutators I used Speed Freak, Instagib and Low grav.

once the lobby is up, join with the other secondary account with 2 players, then join with your main account. That should automatically put you in the 2 players team.

Just run to the enemy spawn, press X to use the translocator, with low grav, it basically flies across the map lol.

go behind the enemy base and stand opposite the enemies, and murder the 3 enemies over and over. Should take 5 minutes.

Once over 200, capture the flag to end the game, I didn't wait for the next match to start, I just pressed Y, went to menu, waited for the "Save" icon, then quit the game out completely.
Then change the time using the trick from the other guides, reboot the game, sign in your guest again and just do quick match to rejoin your still-running lobby.

You cut on lobby creation time and kill times. Took me about 4-5 hours.
