After you rescue the dog, and take him with you, you will need, from time to time to feed him when he requests, to take a nap with him (attention here, as it takes 3 hours of the time!) and pet him. He will slowly and steadly gain hearts if you take care of his needs and when you get the 4th heart, the achievement will pop as in the video below:
