If you die just simply close the app and open back up and you'll be back where you left off. if You know you're gonna die just quit to the title screen. This way you don't have to wait for the game to load back up.
For surviving, I first grab the axe and a syringe. For chips, I prioritize the master parry chip, both spin attack chips, the axe chip, strength ship, and stamina chips . If you don't see any chips you like you can just back out and reload the file until you get the rng you want. After each area always go to the shop and upgrade your axe if you can.
