How to unlock the Petals Fall, Dancing achievement in Unsouled - Definitive Guide

I’m gonna say this right off the bat, this is probably the only achievement in the game that may prove to legitimately frustrate you; even the annoying grind for the enemy Passive Souls for ‘Soul Taker’ (which I have not finished as of making this guide) can prove to be enjoyable.

First up: clarification on the achievement description. This achievement requires you to finish this boss fight with a chain and combo counter of at least 10 each and without using any of the Active Souls. You’ll want to do most of this fight normally (aside from not using Active Souls of course) until you have gotten Lyuh to drop a second batch of souls, I’ve found this is the best time to go for the achievement.

Getting a Chain counter of 10+ is a non-issue, just dash around the arena a bunch of times and pray Lyuh doesn’t fuck you over with some annoying bs attack (which will happen at least once while you’re going for this) before going in for the finishing combo. Doing that for the combo counter is a different story (with the Chain counter requirement, on its own it’s literally as simple as ‘use Thousand Demons’) because of the fact bosses have Ghost Orbs which can be used to break your combo, and I couldn’t find any way to keep the combo going if Lyuh used one. This requires you to do one of two things:
  • Get very lucky; or
  • Use a combo that exploits multi-hit moves, moves that bosses can’t use Ghost Orbs to, and the fact that bosses can’t use Ghost Orbs when your stamina’s over 80% to reduce the risk of Lyuh using one
My intended plan (albeit modified to hopefully be of more use to people reading this) is to do the dash sequence mentioned earlier, use a dash attack to start the combo (you should get Lyuh close to a wall for this), use a Ghost Orb (practice sample combo 9 if you’re having trouble with that), then either use Snow Sleet or your basic sword combo (either move you use should be completely upgraded, especially Snow Sleet as it’s kinda worthless for this otherwise), use Soul Burst, then Absorbing Vortex, Snow Sleet or your basic combo again, and then finish the fight with Soul Burst spam if you need to do that. Make sure to also use additional Ghost Orbs if your stamina bar looks to be getting close to under 80% unless if you’re about to use Absorbing Vortex.

I ended up kinda panicking on the successful attempt (no video demonstration, sorry, clip got nuked) but general use of this strategy got me a finish of a combo count of 11 and a Chain count of 14. Obviously if you stuff it just restart checkpoint, you can do this even if Lyuh is dead and she’ll respawn. Good luck on this one.

VanillaCake13's strat worked fine except i ended with a 21 Chain and 36 Hits combo and didnt get the achievement lmaoo

edit: noticed later on it was due to diminishing returns on combos, which can be diminished with some Passive Soul i forgot which one

Thanks @Vanillacake13! Used that loop for pretty much the whole game, although the combo dampening mechanic means you have let the boss reset every now and then on Master.

I found an easy and simple combo to make sure the boss cant use ghost orb to escape. Be sure to have more than 4 souls orbs just in case.
Start by dashing to get 10 chains and start your combo with Absorbing Vortex (Y+A), simple combo (X,X,X,X), Absorbing Vortex (Y+A)... and dont stop until the boss is dead.

Took me a total of 4 attempts and ended the fight with 21 chains and 15 combos.
