When I completed this trophy a few years back I discovered that you can hide in spots on the screen where the enemy's won't hit you. You can bypass around 40% of the mini game this way.
Feel free to watch my play thru of the mini game on YouTube. Try to time your movements to the audio cues in the sound track to know when you need to come out of hiding or go back into hiding.
Hopefully doing it this way should get you closer to the boss and the end of the mini game then if you would play it normally trying to tackle every enemy head on.
