How to unlock the Royal Army Hero Cross achievement in Valkyria Revolution - Definitive Guide
How to Know She's There: The Valkyria spawns as soon as the timer hits the moon (the circle). But a minute or two before that, you'll know because the game music will end and be replaced by a sad Valkyria song. It's much different so you're sure to recognize it. If it's very close to dark and you hear the same old tune, she's not spawning.
This does mean you may need to go battle after battle hoping she'll spawn. It sucks. But she will spawn. I've seen her four times in about 30 battles.
Difficulty: If you want to get this quickly, play on easy.
If you're playing on Easy, you need to be the same level as her probably, though it may be doable with less. If you're on Normal, you'll need to be 10 levels above her. You can change this in the options menu when you're in town. Difficulty doesn't affect achievements so it's safe. She does immense damage on Normal difficulty.
Her level is determined by the level of the mission, which in turn is determined by your Chapter. You can see the level of the battle on the world map.
Strategy: There's not much you can do other than zerging her with the right elements. She has an orb surrounding her. You need to use Ragnite of the opposite color:
Red vs. Blue
Green vs. Yellow
Spam it on her and it will do more and more damage. Once it evens out, start nuking her with whatever you have. If you have the Bravery spell, which boosts your attack damage, use it. Otherwise just keep going and resurrect your allies as soon as they go down (which they will on Normal for sure). Ophelia's healing song can be a lifesaver on Normal.
I used amleth, girl godot, ophelia and helena.
She was level 6 and my team level 21 and it was still a doozy even on Easy mode, so definitely try to get this one hammered out early on in the game.
For the achievement, you only need to beat the valkyria, not the entire mission. Though beating her gave several hundred experience and some pretty good ragnite. Be warned though, she was level 12 (she takes the level of the suggested level of the battle i believe), i was level 28, and her singing almost killed me right away, so maybe bring ophelia with her healing song as it actually did help me.
I dont know if it is random or not, so i'll give my info for getting it to appear. I got this in chapter 4, it took 2 tries of waiting until nightfall both in battle missions. The one where she showed up was Avalune, though that was probably just coincidence.
Second, ophelia was pretty key. I used her healing galdr whenever anyone got frightened or was almost dead.
Between those, one-hit spells are useful and just hammer away and it should work out. Just beware her one hit kill, it has scythe in the name, cant remember the name exactly

For this achievement, "tactical missions" refers to the "Battle" type marked with a red icon on the mission select map. When you choose one of these, the mission briefing will mention that if you take too long and night falls, a Valkyria may appear. This begins happening as of Chapter 3, and I would suggest doing it right away. She levels with the suggested mission difficulty, so fighting her early in the game is better than later.
Once you are in the mission, I would suggest doing the first few objectives to clear the battle area a bit, then simply wait in an empty area until night falls. You will know if the Valkyria will spawn slightly before the time indicator in the upper left corner of the screen hits the moon symbol. The game's regular music will shut off, and the Valkyria's haunting singing will begin. Wait a bit longer and she will spawn right near you. I have read that the spawn chance is 25% but I have no way to verify that. She spawned on my 5th attempt. If she doesn't spawn, simply complete the mission and choose another one if available. If not, do any other mission and the optional missions will refresh.
The fight is not all that bad on Easy if you do it right at the beginning of Chapter 3, though it will be much more difficult later in the game and/or on Normal difficulty. The Valkyria has a small orb floating around her to indicate which element she is attuned to. Using the opposite element will do bonus damage (fire, use water; water, use fire; wind, use earth; earth, use wind). When I beat her, she started attuned to fire and I simply used Ophelia's ice beam attack over and over until she died. Ophelia's battle speed is high, so you can basically stunlock the Valkyria and kill her quickly.
